2021 Worlds: Pairs Short Program

I was on pins and needles for Alexa & Brandon. It's always difficult your first time out as a team at a major competition. But they are both veterans, and they've worked so hard. And we know they're prepared, but the butterflies can do you in.

This was an opportunity, and you gotta take advantage and just do your best. To be honest, every time I've seen K/F since they've joined, they've never missed the revolutions on their side-by-side jumps. Must have been some tightness and a brain freeze for Brandon. They must have lost around 4 to 5 points. Could have landed 69, maybe 70, because the judges are being conservative with new teams who skate early. Disappointing, but I'm glad Alexa gave great support to Brandon. I hope he gets a fire in the belly and figures out the butterflies. You gotta lay it down when the time comes. Because they could be a next level team, but you need to get over that nerves hurdle. They are obviously capable and competitive with the top teams.

As far as excitement people, we shall see as the later groups get out there. I miss the excitement that James/Cipres brought. Moskvina coming back with her innovativeness boosting the two young Russian teams is good. Moskvina coached Zimmerman, and he coached J/C with their team in Florida to a great 3-year run which helped evolve pairs and added a lot of excitement. What J/C gave to pairs is still being copied.

Aww,nthat’s too bad after such an energetic start.

Hocke/Kunkel are next! Good luck!
