I'm not sure if this was just our assumption or if we ever had an official statement, but the schedules are out and confirm that there will be 12 entries each in singles, 10 in ice dance, and 8 in pairs.

The journalists said there would be two warm-ups in the final. This was semi-official.

Like I said about Trusova yesterday, she had no intention of competing in the final. She never had any intention of competing in the Russian Nationals either. I guess she held the thermometer under her armpit and sent the team doctor a photo.

I mean, you just had to look at that photo where she's holding the thermometer with her enormous fingernails that looked like talons. What serious skater would go out in a national championship with those fingernails? But that could be seen in how she had performed in previous skates where she was gassed and sweaty after performing relatively simple programs that there was no way she would go out there. Maybe a short program at most then withdraw.

Getting back to the GP final, I think it's really terrible the way she's led her fans along first with the Russian Nationals and now the GP final. She's also inconvenienced skaters like Adelia who could have prepared themselves better for the final.

Please, don't tell me she wasn't sure because she was off on a Dubai vacation last month. Who prepares in the middle of the season, a season where you have struggled for form and have no fitness, by being lazy in Dubai?

Disrespectful to her fans, disrespectful to her colleagues. This is a person who organised an impromptu autograph session while her colleagues were in the building skating their free programs, so what can one expect I suppose.

It's going to be a great final and even better now with the addition of Adelia.

I don't really feel deceived as a Trusova fan. I've always hoped she might continue to skate, but I fully know most of these girls retire after they finish their first Olympics. Sasha has been putting out signals this entire season she's not going to continue competing, just like most of the girls after their first Olympics. So like my first post, I knew there was an extremely high chance she would be the first to withdraw from this event.

Sasha has always kinda been the rebel, so her ridiculous autograph session thing was a little amusing. But yeah, not nice either since, as a fan, I would like to get her autograph BUT ALSO watch the other Russian girls skate. I shouldn't be forced to choose between those two things.

Sasha, Anna, Aliona, (Rika, Young You) gave us five thrill filled years leading up to the Olympics. All good things come to an end, especially in ladies figure skating, and it is time to spotlight the very talented new generation. I don't expect to see any of them in competition again, and that is fine. I remember a time when Alina and Zhenya were cagy about competing in competition A or B-even though most everyone understood they were semi-retired, on the show circuit. I also think the alternates were well aware of the high probability of Sasha dropping out.

I guess thats how Adeliya gets in 3 skaters WD. If Nastya doesn't get cleared.

This also means Masha P will skate so while im sad Ksenia wd, im also happy that Masha gets in.

Adeliia needs four withdrawals.

Masha is at the Children of Asia now. Theoretically she will make it back in time, but jetlag...

I forgot about Vika Fedyanina. All of Masha, Vika and Adeliya are on 18 points what separates them are the combined scores. Adeliya having the lowest due to not being able to compete in 2 stages. I do wonder if they will go by the combined list or give Adeliya a spot based on her being in the national team or something. They have done that in previous years but in those cases there had been a world spot on the line.

Doesn't the fed have a lot of discretion in who they include in the final if there are withdrawals (or even if there aren't)? Basically anyone they deem fit. Adelia is well and truly justified in being included since she won her GP stage and missed the other stage through injury.

So is Vika in? I thought she was grossly underscored in the series, would love to see her get an opportunity.

Google translation
The final of the Russian Grand Prix will be missed by six skaters and four duets that have passed the selection.

Alexandra Trusova , Anastasia Zinina , Ksenia Sinitsyna , Ilya Yablokov withdrew due to injuries . Gleb Lutfullin refused to participate due to unpreparedness for the tournament, Mikhail Kolyada - without explanation.

Ice dancers Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva and Yegor Bazin did not plan to perform at the tournament, the duets of Annabelle Morozov and David Narizhny and Irina Khavronina and Dario Chirizano broke up. The reason for the removal of Alexandra Kravchenko and Alexander Shustitsky is still unknown.

The sports couple Ekaterina Chikmareva - Matvey Yanchenkov, who qualified for the adult finals of the Russian Grand Prix, chose to compete in juniors - the skaters participated in both the adult and junior stages of the Russian series.
