2022-23 Russian Local Events – Discussion

So, Lyuba's plan for this season is a 2x 3A + 4Lo-Free skate...
I'm not sure that's wise, she struggled with even just one or two 3As last season. If the 4Lo works out better (and from this attempt, I would almost say it does), they should switch out one of the 3As for it instead of adding it on top.
If she had played it safe, she probably would have won. But I have respect for a little girl who went for it all...even if it didn't work out.

Big boys are on the ice!

1st group
Nobody has a costume yet.

Makar Ignatov
New lyrical SP
4Lo< step, hands down
4T+3T
3A three turn

Petr Gumennik
Dawn of Faith
4Lz< fall
1Lo+2Lo
3A step
Lost balance on the spin doing new 'difficult exit' feature.
The choreo is gorgeous. As for the jumps, the warm-up was way better.

Gleb Lutfullin
Smile
3T
4S superb
Lost balance on the transition
3A
Finished without music.
I like this program for Gleb. However, it clearly needs a lot of work. He didn't attempt his signature +3Lo combo.
2nd group
Everyone is wearing a costume except for Misha

Vladislav Katichev
3A three turn
3Lz+3T
3Lo

Mikhail Kolyada
The Nutcracker
3Lz superb
4T+3T superb
3A superb
Just a fabulous skate by Misha :)

Dmitri Aliev
"I will always love you' from Averbukh's show.
4S
4T+3T
3A
Some problems on the steps
OMG! What a skate! What energy! Probably best Dima's SP since Olympics. I fell in love with this program right after seeing first fancams from the show. Probably best men's program this season yet.

Andrei Mozalev
4S (out of multiple turns) fall
3A out of spread eagle
4T+3T
Fluke fall at StSq
Didn't except a quad in the second half. Shape is ok for him. Not sure if rock suits him, tbh.

I respect her for going for it and this competition is of course not the most important one of the season, but it still doesn't necessarily make it a smarter decision.😅 I do hope she manages to pull it off at some time in the future, for her self-esteem at the very least.

What is the advantage of having 3Lz+3T+2A+SEQ? Saw some girls trying it. In general what combo is replacing?
Was it done at the JGP??

Well Zinina did it and did not do a standalone axel jump.... so does an axel in sequence satisfy the axel requirement? If so, the advantage is that you have a higher valued combination and that low value standalone double axel can be a different jump

Mozalev and 4… second. 💥🤯🌋 glad he seems to be in a good shape, though. I am at work, but hope to catch up in the evening on everything… it’s going to be a long night!

About Lukin:

Figure skater Mark Lukin, who trains at the Evgeny Plushenko Academy, pierced his right leg with a skate during the free skate at the Moscow Championship, a source close to the situation told RIA Novosti.
The skater was injured during the execution of the triple lutz - triple toe loop cascade in the free program. He finished the program, performing single jumps after an injury.
The athlete received medical assistance, he will undergo a medical examination later.

Not to worry, it didn't take anything away from Timofey's grace.
I'm relieved it was just techno opera swan lake, that's not too bad these days.
Timofey did so well, 7th overall is amazing in such a field. And the judges love him too, he came second and third in PCS in SP and FS, respectively. He really deserves it, he goes for stuff nobody else does. That flying layback spin is a pretty unique element for boys and executed flawlessly.
They simply must give him a CoRGP spot now.

Can’t believe the season is slowly starting starting.

And if the Alex live at the rink wants to switch places with this Alex, I’m OK with that. He can work while I watch the skating. Haha

Thank you for your live reports!
One of the few things in figure skating better than the little boys in Moscow are indeed the big boys in St. Petersburg. And wow, do they have great SPs this season! It's like a burst of post-Olympic creativity for many of them.

The music diversity they had the nutcracker, I will always love you and Led Zeppelin

About Lukin:
Oof... At least it sounds like just a puncture wound not a ligament damage, so hopefully relatively straightforward to heal.

Something similar (but a lot milder) happened to me once, I fell while randomly stroking and the heel of one blade poked into my thigh... Because my pants were black I thought it was just a nasty bruise, until I saw the bloodstains where I'd been resting 🙈 It must have been worse for him though, falling from a triple jump!

I briefly caught Kirill Andrusik, Max Belyavskiy and Mark (since their individual videos would be harder to find if the stream gets taken down later). Prefer Kirill's SP over the long as I'm not a fan of Elton... I quite like Mark's LP though, he is pretty to watch, and a rare example where gloves add to the appearance: white, paired with smart jacket 👍 Max B's programme is such fun to sing along to, a pity he did not have as much fun with the jumps...
