I think the timing of when Gr/P supposedly left WISA is the strange thing, if they were always planning to move then why didn't they do it immediately after they knew they wouldn't be needed at Worlds and why would Caroline decide to attend university less than an hour away from the rink? I don't know what the reason behind them leaving was, but it doesn't seem like it was in the immediate plans for them. Intrigued to know what is up with them though, as if they were still with WISA I think we'd have seen them debut here.

Having watched all the available videos from Lake Placid, I feel that Eva & Logan's FD is perhaps the most promising? All of the other felt a bit done and uninspired to me. I think the Florence & the Machine music choice is exciting, but I didn't love it for W/C - it would perhaps suit another team more. In fact, I'd like to see Lorraine & Anton with that choreo instead of their FD, which I thought was dull and a copycat of Gr/P last year but not as well done. Why is Ian doing La La Land again but with a new partner? Strange choice and I found it a bit dull if I'm honest. Not sure about the RD's yet - other than I miss the pattern and don't see the point of the choreo steps here. Bring back patterns!!

I think H/B will be at the GPF, barring disaster (which could happen, remember G/P in 2018 when they fell in their tango and ruined any chance of that) as they've been given perhaps more straight forward assignments. I hope they get a great RD as I didn't really like their latin in 2017/18 but it is a style they can do a lot with.

I don't really see where C/B go creatively this year - another snake/alien would feel a bit too much for me, plus without the same level of competition they don't need to stand out the same. Maybe they'll go more romantic again? Their 2018/19 programmes (tango/Elvis) were my favourites of theirs from the last quad so I'd quite like that.

Not sure what to expect from C/P - they were seeming more confident before the end of the season. It seems Anthony got his surgery almost straight after 4CC so hopefully he's had enough time to get back up to full strength. Their junior latin was a lot of fun - and I do think they suit bubbly programmes so that will be interesting. Anything is better than last years FD and I do think that it was a learning year for them. Hopefully onwards and upwards for them now!

The Browns are the total wildcard for me. I love them, but historically they haven't been the best at getting their levels, they're small and they don't have a politically powerful coach. I wonder when we'll see them debut?

Hawayek/Baker have super straightforward assignments to get two silver medals. Their toughest competition at Skate America will be KanaDai, but they should be able to beat them, barring catastrophe. GP Helsinki will have Wang/Liu and a few Finnish teams, again H/B should be able to beat those teams.

It would help H/B maintain their US No. 2 position if Green/Parsons don't qualify for the Grand Prix Final. It's going to be close for GrPa because they face Fear/Gibson at Skate Canada and F-B/S at NHK Trophy. To be safe, they would need to beat both teams at those events, and if they're only able to beat one team, it'll get dicey with points adding. It would be difficult for GrPa to beat the perception that H/B are one of the top 6 teams by qualifying to GPF if they aren't able to.

I wonder where they'll debut their programs. They've competed at Finlandia in 2019 and 2021, so maybe we can expect them there. I was also a big fan of their 18/19 programs, so let's see what they direction they choose to go.

They left because of Davis and Smolkin (and I don't blame them one bit).
Allegedly - whilst I do think this is true, we'll never truly know I guess. But my comments here were in response to people above suggesting that they were always going to move this season.

For what it's worth, Pate/Bye have been training alongside top teams (mostly in the past now given the recent spate of coaching changes) and still managed to create programs true to them. To me, some of the strongest dance teams have a solid view of themselves as artists/competitors, even if the sport feels like programs are a bit recycled at times. Their free dance from last year, and their current free dance, are strong vehicles because they appear to have some connection/meaning/POV that they are willing to execute on the ice. Riverdance may have been tackled before, but there is no denying that they imbue their free dance with a true connection to the music.

>Their toughest competition at Skate America will be KanaDai
I love KanaDai, but surely Hawayek/Baker are streets ahead of them??? It seems the judges tend to overscore KD and underscore HB, but hopefully they will be scored more appropriately this season.

Final results for Lake Placid International are out, with McNamara/Spiridonov winning, Pate/Bye in second place, Wolfkostin/Chen in third place, and Bratti/Somerville in fourth place. It is unfortunate that we don't have footage from this competition, because the ordinals were wild by ice dance standards.

I wonder how this will affect the competition for the TBA spot at Skate America. Pate/Bye and Bratti/Somerville both have one spot already, while McNamara/Spiridonov currently aren't assigned, but winning Lake Placid will be a big boost towards getting that TBA spot. USFS won't be making the decision for at least another month until after Champs Camp at the earliest.
When exactly is Champs Camp suppose to take place and will we know who has been selected to go???

I have to agree with this. For a season or two, I thought HB were about to get dumped. It seems like their scores were static, when the quality just kept getting better and better, at least to my amateur eye. Sure, there were a couple of seasons where I thought they had less good programs, but they came roaring back - their scores didn't though.

I'll never understand ice dance scoring.

I’m so tired of my babies being low scored. So, so tired.

Nope. They’re consistently underscored. They got robbed so badly in ..2020 nationals I think? The one with no spectators. I wanted to purchase new eye glasses for the judges.

Nice article from IFS about the Michigan Ice Dance Academy

Also, on Green/Parsons' USFS bio, their training town is now listed as Canton, Michigan, which all but confirms that they have switched to training with MIDA, though there still hasn't been an official announcement and Gr/Pa are not mentioned in the MIDA article above which was published yesterday. I wonder why it's been radio silence from them even though their coaching move was first reported on almost two months ago by TSL.

Yup . I thought their FD last year was great, actually my favorite, but the scores didn't reflect it.

Not sure either why so much radio silence with Green/Parsons! But USFS needs to correctly update their info on some skaters for 2022-2023. Cesanek/Yegorov are still listed as training at WISA……..it should reflect the change to MIDA now!!!

To be honest the MIDA article was published a little earlier than yesterday in the magazine itself but the makes no difference for the general argument!

Many updates ahead :)

USFS also announced assignments for US Classic, with Ling/Wein, McNamara/Spiridonov, Pate/Bye, and Wolfkostin/Chen all competing. It will be really interesting to see how M/S, P/C, and W/C place at this comp since they went 1/2/3 at Lake Placid International

Is champs camp taking place this coming week? I saw where Molly Cesanek and Anthony Ponomarenko mentioned it in their recent IG post!
