Great, thanks. I've been following Bella's Instagram, but I hadn't seen this recent post. I also responded to your post in the former Bella/Dima thread, which should probably be retired, since she's now moved on with Vanya.

I admire Bella for her courage, her talent, and her determination to not give up after such an unexpected heartbreaking split. She seems wise for her years in understanding the necessity to let go of what was, while also gaining strength from the good and bad of her prior experiences.

Bella says they're competing next week, and Challenge Cup is next week in Philadelphia, which includes ice dance. I imagine that is where they're competing. Not sure if there will be any livestreams, but let's see if any videos come out after the competition.

Budapest Trophy entries have been released. The Browns and WolfChen will be competing, which is a great matchup since WolfChen scored better for most of last season, but the Browns then won junior worlds.

McNamara/Spiridonov and Cesanek/Yehorov are currently competing at Nebelhorn Trophy, M/S are in 4th after the rhythm dance with a score 69.64 while C/Y are in 8th with a score of 61.81.

After JGP Armenia was canceled, Bland/Sperry have been reassigned to JGP Poland I while Neset/Markelov are reassigned to JGP Poland II.

Really nice score at the Challenge Cup for the new team of Flores and Desyatov: 179.49 total (which includes 2 pts deduction for extended lifts). I look forward to seeing them skate!

especially notable is that they beat Ling/Wein by 13 points, who have already gotten some international assignments and are not a newly formed team. If Ivan has already been released, they should be able to compete internationally soon since it’s been a year since he last competed on the JGP for Belarus.

Nebelhorn Trophy also concluded today with McNamara/Spiridonov finishing 5th with 166.05 points and Cesanek/Yehorov finishing 11th with 138.87 points.

On the scoresheet, M/S's choreographic jumping element wasn't included in their free dance, which is one reason why they scored almost 13 points lower than they did last week at US Classic. They also had messy twizzles in both the rhythm dance and free dance.

At next week's challenger, Nepela Trophy, the Browns will be making their season debut while Pate/Bye will be competing at their second challenger of the season.

Lombardia Trophy just ended, and Bratti/Somerville placed 4th with a total score of 170.54.

Does anyone have a link to Emily and Ian's FD? I watched their RD, but I'm really eager to see their FD..\ and I Heart La La Land. But mostly, I hope that they're showcasing their connection in the FD, as they did last year.

Yep, they are a very good team who seem well-matched with great chemistry. The vibe is different from Bella with her former partner, Dima, yet nonetheless also dynamic and special. It should be fun to see them continue to grow.

I was so upset to see Cesanek/Yehorov ended up in last place!!! I know they can skate so much better than this I’m wondering if she is completely healed from her emergency appendectomy……but that was like 2 months ago

Pate/Bye finished 2nd at Nepela Trophy with a score of 178.69 while the Browns finished 5th with a score of 160.62. At this point, every American dance team has competed internationally at least once already besides Chock/Bates, Hawayek/Baker, Green/Parsons, Carreira/Ponomarenko, and Ling/Wein. Looking on SkatingScores, we can see how the teams match up. So far, McNamara/Spiridonov and Pate/Bye have the best scores, with Pate/Bye as the most consistent, having competed three times already all in the same range.

Hawayek/Baker, Green/Parsons, and Ling/Wein all just finished competing at Finlandia Trophy. H/B finished 2nd overall, behind FB/S of Canada by 6 points, while Gr/Pa had a disappointing outing, finishing 5th overall and 20 points between H/B. I haven't had a chance to watch H/B or Gr/Pa's programs yet, but here are some videos for them. Compared to all over US dance teams, Green/Parsons' score would put them in line with Pate/Bye and McNamara/Spiridonov.

IMO, G/P were scored harshly at Finlandia Trophy. I think G/P should have placed at least third. I believe G/P's skill level is a bit higher than Turkkila/Versluis, who apparently received home field advantage in Finland, and Taschlerova/ Taschler, who skate with dynamic passion, but not with originality. T/T were channeling Pap/Ciz in their FD concept and costuming.

Of course, G/P don't have as exciting and original programs as they had last season when they won 4CCs with 80.62 in RD, and 119.97 in the FD for 200.59 overall. However, a 23+ point drop is not because their programs aren't as exciting this season. It's about 'wait-your-turn' politics.

This result makes me wonder whether U.S. fed suggested that G/P should switch to Canton and Charlie/ Tanith's new training camp. The programs seem a bit too usual and traditional run-of-the-mill. Nothing that stands out, although G/P's sparkling ability is still there. G/P need to build upon exploring the interesting program ideas they had previously, with the modern dance twist. Why change coaches and end up losing your creativity and the on-ice personality that helped you stand out? Of course, G/P's stellar abilities are still evident, but ignored by the judges in their first outing this season.

that's for sure. with a team that's shown such ability with creative approach. it's very disappointing. also i don't like what's been done with emily and ian this year. someone suspected tanith's conventional choreo in caroline/michael's dances. a real shock after gre z's approach.

^^ Yeah, it's really too bad. Caroline & Michael are so interesting and creative. I wonder why they were talked into going so conventional in the FD. I thought their RD was okay, but under-scored. They seemed more subdued and cautious in the FD after those low-ball scores in the RD.

I totally agree with you about Ian & Emily too. I liked their program choices last season in their debut as partners. I think those programs were by Charlie. If Tanith made the choices for them this season, she's done them no favors. Same goes if Tanith is behind G/P's new FD.

Re Ian & Em, they have a good dynamic. I suppose Emily is a bit more skilled than Ian's former partner, Kat DelCamp, technically. OTOH, Kat has more presence and dramatic flair. Sad that Kat is no longer partnered with U.K.'s Billy Wilson-French. Apparently, after training for awhile in Britain and in the U.S., something wasn't working and they split.

Honestly, Ian's best partnership was with Eliana Gropman. They were well-suited physically and skill-wise, having grown up learning and competing in ice dance together. Something went wrong when she applied for college in Michigan. Ian hooked up with Kat D whom he was dating off-ice. They had a great connection on and off-the-ice, but Kat needed more seasoning in juniors and Ian needed to move on to seniors.

Emily Bratti is a good partner, but her skill level needs to improve to fully match Ian's. Plus, Emily is slightly taller than Kat and Eliana. If only Ian and Eliana had weathered their upset. It seemingly would have been possible for Eliana to attend school in Michigan while switching with Ian to Canton to train. Especially since that's where Ian has subsequently ended up. But I suppose timing is everything, and getting along personality-wise is important too.

G/P chose to skate to Gershwin--they mentioned in an interview that Michael's grandmother who recently passed away had wanted them to skate to it. I thought the free dance was lovely--maybe more conventional music but they move beautifully to the music. They are my fave US dance team and I hope they have a great season. They just need more mileage with their new programs.
