Also in local men have been surprises, but I'll be back to it later at skate of the nations thread. This was a little bit chaos, wasn't it? Ladies are really following men's footprints. I must pause watching now for a while, Saturday night+Finns=sauna.

Just a shame that Anna already did JPG this season, she could have been on the replacement list for GP now...

I was thinking about it more and I would bet money that the hip that Gracie injured is the right one. She took out the loop, looks like the lutz (where she picks with the right and has lots of twist on that hip to get that beautiful outside edge) is causing major issues, she definitely isn’t as fast as she was even at the beginning of the season (hip is where a lot of power comes from), having trouble holding onto landings (stepping out of the sal). Also, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear this is a much worse injury than we have been told (not that her or her team have told us anything). I hope that she can go home and rest for a bit, Nationals aren’t until the end of January. She could theoretically take a month off to let her hip recover some and still have a month to get ready for Nationals. I seriously doubt USFS would send her to Golden Spin to try to get World’s minimums. Either way, I really hope I can manage to make the trip to Nationals to see her skate!

I just finished watching the ladies free skate…
Canada’s B team
did amazing! But, I think after this event, they each missed the TES in one portion. Justine attained SP minimum, but just missed the free skate minimum (at least she is eligible for 4CC)
Sara and Kaiya both attained the minimum TES for the free skate. But, are missing it in the SP (Both eligible for 4CC)
Kaiya is back! She won the free skate with her wonderful program! She is such a fighter! I actually thought she would win over Anna. She is so consistent and could have won, but, needs to focus on her spins. The good news is she has the jumping elements solid. She has solidified herself as the #3 Canadian lady. She is looking good to be sent for 4CC and can even be sent to Junior Worlds too, as they have two spots. She would just have to compete at another event to get minimum requirements. I’m so happy for her. She deserves this moment. First medal at a challenger event.
Justine was also so good. She missed the podium due to the opening fall on her combo. But, this fifth place finish is quite a good result for me. She has finally learned to skate, as well as she does domestically. To me, she is fighting between #4-#6 within Canada against Kara Yun and Lia Perriera (will Lia stop singles and switch to pairs?). I’m glad Justine is gaining in confidence through this international exposure.
Sara-Maude skated so well. Her TES score was solid. I loved her 2A 3T. She attained the minimum world TES score. I just wish she scored higher than Gracie. At 11th, she just missed World Points and I really thought she deserved 9th at this event. Anyways, she topped 150 and will be fighting around #7-#9 within Canada versus Amanda Tobin and Alison (not sure if Alison is injured or retired?)

Think in regards to the CAN ladies here, it goes back to international exposure - which they do not get enough of. Kaiya had a very good short - so why she did not get the World Min is shocking. And she also should have scored over 120 in the free. But she has been out of the spot light for a while now so was not given the benefit of the doubt. And I agree had Sara-Maude been better known and placed better in her JGPs she would have scored higher and been in 9th place. There is no way Gracie should have scored what she did with only 2 triples.
And she just shows that CAN should have filled our 3rd lady spot at Skate Canada.

The Korean skaters…. Ahsun and Minchae have amazing triple triples. But, when they fall, it is like they just give up. They stay on the ice and don’t get up quickly and then just skate around like they want to get off the ice. Ahsun had a chance to medal. But, just seemed to give up
Clare Seo…. that was a good fight. But, she is not one who should leave all three combo jumps to the very end. She just doesn’t have that jumping ability and I knew she would pop one of those combos at the very end.
Gracie Gold… I thought that was one of the worst skates of this event. She just doesn’t have that ability to perform. I knew when she popped her opening triple lutz….again….. and when She went for the 3F…. I was confident she would fall…. And then I knew she was done. Only one landed triple when you are allowed 7 jumping passes, is disappointing, but, is becoming a pattern. She can do well after the SP, but, there is no hope for her with free skate because she doesn’t have the consistency required to land enough triples. Three at SA and one here will never be enough.

Exactly. Agree with you 100% on everything you just posted.
I really do not get Gracie's score here at all! Her content was almost nil and yet she gets good GOE and PCS on what she does do even when she looks slow and unsure of herself the whole way through her program. I would have had her at least 10 points lower. And had she been another skater from a different country she would have not scored what she did in either the short or the free. But everyone is so hopeful for her comeback that they reward her for her effort more then for what she does.
Exactly! That is what makes me mad. Because M. Kim falls apart. But, Minchae at least landed her triple triple and another triple. Gracie was just horrible from the beginning to the end. I really expected her to score around 140. A PCS score over 50 when she skated with fear and like a deer in front of headlights, is insulting to skaters like Kimmy who was at 53, but skated cleanly with more attack and speed, compared to Gracie’s 55.
