I hope someone finds a streaming and is able to post it!! It saddens me that we cannot see the ice shows and competitions from Japan in any kind of reliable way. If they figued out a way to monetize it and deal with all the copyrights, etc. I would PAY to see the Japanese FS content. I am a Jason Brown fan, desperate to see him as much as possible before he hangs up the skates. It seems he does most of his skating in Japan.

Ooh it´s only one week away. I hope it´s possible to find a free live stream or something. I didn´t realize before seing a lot of the names how much I have missed skaters who are now retired or having a break this season. Mr. Brezina, Mariah, Jason....
It´s interesting with the mix of active and retired skaters, I´m wondering if the ones who are not very active now still has restored most of their jumps.

Japan Open does invite retired skaters. Jeffrey Buttle and Joannie Rochette skated there many times when retired... at this point though, it's been a long time since a Canadian was invited at Japan Open (2015 with Patrick)...
So i am no longer watching
I don't mind that Canadians are not always invited but 7 years is kinda long don't ya think?? Especially when some years, Gabby and Kaetlyn would have been perfect choices.

Jason has made no announcements yet. His loyal fans are waiting for such an announcement.
He is obviously not doing the GP, but in every interview he has given so far, he says he honestly does not know about another competetitive season.
Japan Open is a good payday and, as has been noted, often invites retired skaters.

Doing a quick google search, there are still many options to get live and on demand for 2 weeks Japan TV as long as one knows what channel the event is played on. As you will rememeber, Japan Nats last year was on at least two channels for different events and Maybe 3. I used two services.
One was this critter. It worked very well and was cheep and if I had time, I would try it out for Japan Open. Perhaps some of our Japanese speaking members will re surface with some advice as to where and when to watch. This critter has 56 channels live and on demand for two weeks. It is very reasonably priced.

I noticed on the TV Tokyo website that TV Tokyo (テレビ東京) will be broadcasting Carnival on Ice (the gala portion of Japan Open) on Sunday, October 9th from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm JST. (That's midnight-1:15 am PST for me...) Haven't found when and where the actual competition will be broadcast, but will keep looking...
Edit: another look at the TV Tokyo website shows that the actual competition will be shown on the same channel on Saturday, October 8th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm JST. Why didn't I see that earlier?

This event is currently not going to be streamed live. If a stream is announced, it will be paid, and most likely through TV Tokyo's subscription service Paravi. There will be a delayed broadcast on TV Tokyo from 16:00 to 18:00 JST, with Carnival on Ice being broadcast on TV Tokyo the next day from 16:00 to 17:15 JST (this is only on regular TV Tokyo, not BS TV Tokyo). If you would like to access TV Tokyo from overseas, this can be done legally. You can use JapanTV or MujiTV, as @CoyoteChris mentioned, or you can sign up for a month-long free trial with YoiTV. If you can't pay, you can also access the *questionably obtained* free live stream here (this doesn't have pop-up ads but it is still a bit sketch, please access legal options if possible).
The schedule has the women starting at 12:30 and the men at 14:15, so there will be a significant delay between the broadcast and the event concluding. Despite that, it will still be fun to watch!

Are we agreed that only TV Tokyo is involved in both broadcasts? Since Muji is live and on demand for 2 weeks after the event, figuring out DPT/SPT and Tokyo standard time considering the dateline isnt so critical. for Japan nats, someone on Twitter posted a cheat sheet for time zones.
Right now in Spokane, its 8:21 pm Monday the third and 12:21pm on Tuesday the fourth. Using my fingers and toes, that looks like Spokane is 16 hours behind/ ahead of Tokyo. If the comp starts Sat the 8th 4 pm, that means Friday at midnight the 7th in Spokane.

(Fumie Suguri is back in Japan for a month...she has such beautiful pics of Japan temples......I also follow a Japanese person on Youtube who tours Japan and she lets you experience rural Japan through the eyes of a motorcycle tourist. They have wonderful cabins in rural areas just like we in the west do. Such nice people,,,,)

I had already corrected it. I guess it's like Takashiro Shimada, Makato Honda, Tomoko Miyahara and (of course!) Masama Uno!That's Kao Miura replacing him, you misread the kanji!
Adding: Looks like it's an ankle injury. Darn! Heal well, Yuma! I've been looking forward to seeing him at Skate America. Hope he's in good shape by then.

I’m looking forward to this event. It is just free skates, right? I’m so curious to see what kind of shape Bradie is in. Mariah, as well. I’m so nervous for Rika… if she skates like how she did at Japanese regionals, she could cost Japan the win here, as it will be a very low score. I’m not sure if she should skate here.
