2022 Olympics: Men's Free Skate

I think the Russian men would have benefitted from having two skate in the team event. One more youngster would have Olympic ice experience, one would not be exhausted for the IE. JMHO. Zhenya was not polished after the rough start but what a year he has had.

My theory is he just wants to push himself and see what he can do. He's won everything, he has nothing to prove, why not try the hardest thing he can and go for it? Even with a fall, he's the first person to attempt it, so he (presumably) ends his career making history. He seems like the kind of person that that would be very meaningful for..

He's the first to attempt it at the Olympics, but not in ISU competition I don't think. Artur Dmitriev Jr has already done so IIRC

A messy skate by Evgeni, but I appreciated that he kept in character throughout. He has very unaesthetic jumps, particularly the landings, and he needs a lot more stretch and line. The program was pretty empty too. There was a lot of skate to the end of the rink, jump, and repeat.

Oh wow he did get hammered on the PCS, although there is more of an understandable reasoning for the dock than in the SP. Two falls=two major errors to start the program.

They gave him the max he could be given in every category except for 1, so no he didn't get hammered. SS & CO - max score per guidelines is 9.25, he got 9.25; for TR max score is 9.25 he got 9.18. for PE & IN max score is 8.75 - he got 8.75 and 8.79.

SEMENENKO Evgeni (ROC)

A mixed skate for him after the heavy step-out on the opening 4T. Good comeback with the 4S and 4T+3T, though a shaky 3F+2T that he had to save with a tucked foot. The 3A+1Lo+3S, 3A, and 3Lo were all alright. Unfortunately after Hanyu, those landings look only in the +1 to +2 range for him. I think the music tries to go for the classic fast-slow-fast structure, and so I think he can work on bringing more dynamics to portray that change in tempo, maybe look at Kolyada on how to pose with more intensity. Just needs some more speed and deeper edges. But a fairly solid technical performance nonetheless.

I agree with this comment. This Young girl was probably following directions and had absolutely no power to say no in this situation. I really feel sorry for her.
