Hi there guys!
It was great competition so far - and the whole play off system of main tournament with pairs of rivals competing with each other is brilliant idea making rather detached from fighting types of sport - figure skating - into something much more closer to more common adrenaline-filled sport event everybody loves so much like soccer or tennis match. Which wasn't the case with first examples of jumping tournaments long time ago if I remember correctly - which probably was what buried it.
I wonder whether ISU really consider to implement jumping tournaments again - with Russian rules now - in their official events? And if not - maybe somebody would make a petition or suggestion to them in some kind of a fans letter? It would be extremely interesting to watch similar event on international arena with skating stars everybody knows about. And even more so if it would make its place as new Olympic discipline with separate set of medals for national team and individual events! I remember there were times people were complaining about lack of Olympic medals in figure skating or about its too high subjectivity as reputational judged sport. With this event both these concerns will be fixed as well as bringing more casual jumping types sports fans to figure skating as well ^^

P.S.: I know that ISU nowadays is more focused on making fs even more distant from objective type of sport with plans to make new artistic discipline or single dance discipline. But one can still have a hope, right?

It will be interesting in the men's comp especially with Ilia, outside of that maybe a twizzle comp would work some of them have world class twizzles.

I think the fact that the Russian fed created this innovative concept will mean it will never happen at ISU level.

I couldn't imagine anyone outside of Russia being enthusiastic about this concept it offends them when women jump quads usually citing risk of injury (girls have heavy falls all the time on triples and doubles when I watch ISU juniors), violent coaches, sadistic methods, the d word, etc. Is any of this true?

There was a independent tennis tournament held in St Petersburg last month with Russian players and some outside Russia taking part this was not sanctioned by the ATP and WTA, and both bodies said they would not punish players who took part.

It gives hope that maybe international skaters could take part in a tournament like this is Russia. It would be great to see Ilia perform in a jump tournament like this.

But the ISU's policy is to not recommend or even outright prohibit the participation of its athletes in any events organized by the federations of Russia or the Republic of Belarus. Even if it is a commercial tournament, winning which does not give any preferences except for prize money and some public hype.

Perhaps the organizers will move in the direction of a club jumping tournament, where participants represent a club rather than a country, as in GSA tournaments. This would make it possible to make it international in the future.

The ISU got in trouble recently for their unlawful sanctions against athletes who participate in non-ISU events. They lost in court.

I'm not aware of any individual skaters sanctioned they are free to go to Russia. Just have to apply for a visa.

Over the last few years, the Federation has been able to attract foreign sponsors, they, of course, do not receive a one ruble (because the payments are in euros). But foreign skaters at a commercial tournament is, of course, a different matter, they should not even think about possible participation, or they will suddenly deviate from the guiding party line....

They are now trying to hold club tournaments in such regions. There are some safety problems for children figure skaters, so it is going slowly.

What are the issues because the ISU had JGP events in Turkey, Armenia, Thailand this season? There will be children skating at the world championships in Boston. The US has a much higher crime rate than the Middle East, Central Asia, even Turkey and significantly higher murder rate.

That doesn't make sense to me that they aren't pushing ahead quickly because of safety. Maybe they are just more cautious than the ISU and put the children's welfare as the number one priority.

Can you imagine how cool it would be to have an international jumping competition for men? Ilya, the japanese men, Fa, the Russian men. Now THAT would be an event. Same format as the qualifying round, 30 sec, two attempts etc.
