2023-24 French Championships

Lorine Schild: Couldn't watch her fully but what I saw was clean and very good. Most likely the deserved winner.

133.50 / 200.00 - on the spot!

Congrats to all medallists!

Rewatching Lorine's free program. If only she would always skate like that.

The nightmare skate from Louise EHRHARD / Matthis PELLEGRIS (CHAMP) yesterday has set up a mighty battle in this opening group. Just 0.21 points they are behind Lori-Ann MATTE & Noël-Antoine PIERRE (PFV). :drama:

Hopefully things will go better today for both partnerships.

Ehrhard/Pellegris: Good twist, he falls on the sbs but the sbs combo is clean. Fall on the throw - two times in a row! The rest is cleanish, but they are no more fully into it.

A pity. They actually look quite nice but need to work on the jump landings. 83.25/127.61

The nightmare continues for Louise EHRHARD / Matthis PELLEGRIS (CHAMP). 😞

Fall for Matthis on a jump early on. And then two falls for Louise on throws later on.

Matthis looked to be having difficulty lifting Louise up at the start of the combination lift.

They just didn't look in shape.

When they finished, he looked exhausted, and she looked frustrated. And then they did their bows. And then they both looked exhausted coming off the ice.

As far as I can find out, their last competition was the Warsaw Cup a month ago. So, it wasn't like they were in action a few days ago.

It just isn't their week.

:ghug:

Matte/Pierre: Cautious beginning, pop on the sal, fall on the throw, lifts are good. They gain speed once the jumps are done. She doubled the throw flip. So-so skate. 95.09/139.66.

On to the second group:
3. Faula/Belle
4. Piegad/Strekalin
5. Kovalev/Kovalev

Lori-Ann MATTE & Noël-Antoine PIERRE (PFV) were a lot better than the partnership they were fighting with for 4th and 5th positions.

Fall on a throw for Lori-Ann. But otherwise good.

They looked disappointed when they finished, so I take it they don't know quite how badly things went for Louise and Matthis.

They should definitely hold onto their position.

And boys but they do! They go from being 0.21 points ahead after the SP to being 12.05 points ahead now!

They look a lot happier now!

OK, like Clemence Mayindu earlier, Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (PFV) were at the Golden Spin last week. However, their competitions were on Wednesday and Thursday, so they had a bit longer in between skating there and skating here.

Faula/Belle: Good twist (not-so good vocals!) good sbs combo. Nice lift. Arrrgh, she goes down on the throw. Another nice lift - and again she goes down on the throw. rest is clean.

Beautiful program, were it not for the falls (and the vocals). 87.94/139.66 equalizing Matte/Pierre, who win the tiebreak.

I know what is being said is very deep and meaningful, but I still don't like dialogue.

Two falls for Aurélie on throws. And the second one looked nasty.

But she carried on like nothing had happened.

Ach, for goodness sake. The highlights are all various angles of that second fall! Come on, that's cruel!

Ah, they are now showing a second set of highlights showing other things. Good!

They drop behind their PFV team-mates in the FS. But they have exactly the same score overall!!! :jaw:

Looks like Lori-Ann MATTE & Noël-Antoine PIERRE have it on count-back. Which is probably fair. They were much better today.

Piegad/Strekalin: Twist landing a little rough. Did she pop the combo? Good lift and throw. Sbs 3S with his hand down. Throw fall.

The mistakes are annoying but they have nice harmony with the music and each other. Nice program, needs fine tuning and a little more energy. 103.58/161.94 clear lead for now.

Now for the battle for the win between the Courbevoie team-mates.

That was beautiful from Océane PIEGAD / Denys STREKALIN.

Océane fell on a throw late in the programme, but that isn't going to make any difference on whether they take the overall lead now. They had a big advantage after the SP.

And you know what, I think that even with the fall, they will lead the FS as well.

But, will the fall harm their chances of winning? That depends on my kids!

Into a decent lead in the FS, and a massive lead overall.

Right, now for the moment of truth. Will my kids stay ahead of their Courbevoie team-mates to win the title?

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

Kovalev/Kovalev: popped sbs sal(her)? Throw landing a little rough with a foot down, but she makes it. Otherwise clean. Good energy, maybe a little passion was lacking for a Bond program, but they should easily win. 117.81 / 177.88 first place and the title. Congrats!

And Camille's holster is still missing in action!

That was magnifique!

OK, so Camille didn't have a perfect landing on the throw in the middle of the programme. But it was much better than a lot of her landings from throws (e.g. yesterday!) And the she had a lovely landing on the later throw!

Everything else looked faultless. I can't find anything to critique.

No doubt about it, the Gold Medal is in the bag. And it's going to be a Courbevoie 1-2.

They look pretty happy waiting for the scores. Sending a whole pile of greetings to family and friends.

Pavel didn't look thrilled with the scores when they were announced, though. Well, I suppose it is a good bit lower than they scored at the Master's earlier in the season.

They win the FS by 14.23 points, and overall by 15.94 points.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Ah good, they're a lot happier now during the interview. And Camille is a LOT more talkative than she was yesterday. They're both talking away, and even having a discussion with each other as well!

Wedded bliss! :)

And to end the action today, let's have some chaos! 13 boys, arranged into a group of 7; followed by a group of 6.

But, I'm not going to be able to watch LIVE, as I will be eating soon.

Livestream for the Senior Men's FS is now on air.
