2023-24 Programs by Discipline

Don't know where you all are, but heavy rain here in Detroit and a lot of other places.

labgoat - thanks for posting. This is one of the programs I've been curious about, especially after all the 80s posts we've had and because, well, I'm an 80s gal ;)

I like Team KoKo, but...well maybe the program will grow on me. Also I agree with Ic3Rabbit, that "True" just doesn't work with "Ghostbusters." I understand the need for a different tempo and enjoy some variety in a program, but I feel like there should be some connection between/blending of the different songs.
I was curious too and someone mentioned finding videos on another site. I've never had much luck but stumbled across many from Dreams on Ice from this poster.

I was curious too about GB, and was disapointed a bit in that it did not hold my interest - very repetitive in places.

Nozomu Yoshioka
FS: Music from Final Fantasy VII, including Vengeance on the World (Sephiroth's Theme)
Nozomu wins the most epic music choice of the season award in a landslide!

This music will either eat him alive or slay in competition. Right now, judging by the video I saw, it’s devouring him, but it’s barely July and he has time to improve his performance skills and gain more confidence with the program. I hope he does because it would be such a moment.

Japanese skaters programs for 2023-2024, sources are fan reports from Minato Aquls Cup, meaning this will be Nagoya/Aichi-based skaters:

Rino Matsuike
SP: One Day I'll Fly Away (from "Moulin Rouge")
FS: Adios Nonino by Astor Piazzolla

Mana Kawabe
SP: Haunted, Lick It (.... will update when there are more information on this)
FS: Bolero by Maurice Ravel

Mako Yamashita
SP: She is Like The Swallow
FS: Baragaki: Unbroken Samurai OST (I think it's this one: https://youtu.be/t6yCs9y5I9Y)

it's bucketing here in Sicily and it's pleasently cool...it's not going to last :(

Rino's choices make me want to weep. Does she love warhorses so much or does her center give such unmemorable and overplayed music to her on purpose? It doesn't help that neither she nor her skating resemble Roxanne in any way, and I'll be very surprised if she does a convincing tango. Sorry, but inspired music choices for Rino died the day Higuchi split ways with the Tokai center. 🙉

I thought that expression was local to Northern Ireland! I never would have imagined anybody in your part of the world using it. 😲

You didn't by any chance get it off one of my Uni Professors? He was in Sicily for a month recently working on an excavation.

So good to know that you talk proper! :cheer:  :points:

It's just spelling that's the problem, then... :p

we don't speak english in this particular part of the world to start with

I can no longer get Twitter links off the forum. (Not the GS forum's fault, thanks Elon :cautious:)

Like everyone else, I am not loving Malagueña for Ilia. If he wanted to do Latin (which I think is a good choice), he should give Donovan Carrillo, or even Benoît Richaud, a call. Just imagine Ilia with a Santana program like Donovan had.

Oh well.

I've been dreaming for years and years for someone to skate to Sephiroth's Theme from FF7, even have some choreo ideas in my mind too.... And here is Nozomu with almost exactly the same opening pose as I imagined it to be

Even the shirt idea is similar, though my version is for a dress and has more feather patterns on the right sleeve ("one-winged angel") ;)

I do agree that currently he's being swallowed by the music, especially that last bit of choreo at the end - you need flare and energy boy!
Hopefully he does indeed love the game and his team picked that music to get him out of his shell 🐚 I hope in time it will be able to draw out the passion from inside him!

I just watched Kaori's new free skate and I simply don't like it much. I love Kaori, no question she's my favourite female skater, but she should stop working with Marie-France. The program looks rather random and boring and doesn't bring out what's special about her. I didn't appreciate Benoit's work enough before.
Wild is the Wind is a beautiful song, and Nina Simone is a tremendous musician and performer but... IMO, Nina Simone's version just is not suited for figure skating and especially not Kaori's style... Kaori flies across the ice, why give her a slow burn, moody, contemplative blues piece? She could be skating to anything in that first half... and a jarring transition to Feelin Good.

I know we usually say "use the original" so preparing for some tomatoes here but... I actually think David Bowie's cover of Wild Is The Wind would be much, much better to skate to. Just maybe not for Kaori... Hubbell & Donohue would've done an amazing job, I can imagine Chock & Bates knocking it out of the park with the right cut and choreo... maybe Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen, Shoma Uno, Kevin Aymoz, or even Amber Glenn). For Kaori, I'd love to see something like symphonic metal or a orchestral film score that emphasizes her power and speed instead of fighting against it. I also loved last year's Janet Jackson SP (and kinda hated the Sia FS so honestly, I was braced for worse when I heard Marie-France was choreographing for Kaori again... speaking of unpopular opinions ;)) so it's not that I don't think Kaori is artistic or that she shouldn't be pushing herself as a performer, just... this is so out of her wheelhouse in a bad way, and I'm not sure I can think of any currently competing skater who could make this program work as it is now.
