Lombardia trophy is a week after so maybe it's a factor?
For those competing both Junior and Senior in the season (for instance, Zich), yes.
For the younger guys (Linz is scheduled before school year start in Italy), it shouldn't be a factor.
It depends on how many men they are planning to enter in JGPs. If it is just Zich, Nalbone and Barison, later JGPs are more than enough to given them 2 assignments each. If they want to give the opportunity to somebody else too (Dossena?), Linz could have been a good opportunity.
The issue is that If they had given up the spots last month (just like they did with the 2 spots in Osaka and 1 each in Bangkok, Yerevan, Istanbul), they would have been redistributed to US and Canada. By confirming them but then not entering anyone, they go wasted.

Hmm, not sure i recognize many athletes save for Hanna F, Vlasenko, Polina J, Rossi, JPN and KOR women and a couple of dancers. I am disappointed with SkCan choices so far... but I hope to discover new favs!

I noted that. Subs dont go, right? So its not a boondoggle.....actually, it would be kind of humiliating to be sub 9 on a 9 sub list....
Talk about taking no chances. I guess if someone cannot go, you could move up theoretically.
Probably a reaction to the US fiasco in 1984 Worlds, where they forgot to name ANY alternates and Elaine Zayak ended up being the lone US lady. Thankfully she ended up with a medal saving the USA.

I would think that it is a vote of confidence from your federation to name you to an event. It is also a gentle way to motivate you in practice and to set some goals and benchmarks knowing who you might face in competition.

Heads up folks, I am working the long holiday weekend and will miss most of the competition
(somebody has to staff the hospital). Why am I telling you this, cause the rewatch will be slow getting updated. Good luck to all the skaters and may all the fans have an enjoyable watch.

Actually, especially with covid now back on the rise, I am all for sending an alternate TO the comp and not just sitting at home with a suitcase. But I understand that is very expensive. Like eating at the Dutch cafe on the Kdam...the food is free...the room, not so much....

Since I don't recognize the pairs field at all, I've made my predictions for that discipline through a randomizer  If I get zero points, it's the algorithm's fault, not mine!!
i even did some research on pairs this time...i'm sure i messed up more than a junior man on a good day.
I tried that for the junior men last year and I actually got a fair number of points :slink:
the power of needles  🌵
