2023 World Championships Free Dance

Hello... me, on day 4 of 5 without sleep

Victoria & Carlo are next with an art lesson on ice - Modigliani

According to Mark, this program is inspired by the life of Modigliani. He was a drug addict and alcoholic who abused with partner. After he died at age 35, his partner committed suicide.

I wouldn't want to see that in an ice dance program, but I'm very confused.

ETA: And now Belinda is referring the Renaissance. Um, Modigliani's entire life happened a couple hundred years later.

IAM is getting to where when you only buy clothes from one designer. They all end up looking the same.
that's been the case for a while.... and they all have the same music guy too... and the same dance (floor not ice) coaches.... and they own how many spots in the top 20 at worlds? pretty impressive...

With an unexplained detour to Rain, in your Black Eyes. Just because!

I rather liked the rest of it, though. Gentle and flowy, yes, but with a bit of storytelling.

I liked this performance, but I liked the first half more than the second. The first half oozed musicality, but the second…Rain, In Your Black Eyes is probably my favorite warhorse, but I’ve gotten sick of it this season. And the music cut was a little jarring. I’m not sure I agree with twizzles at the music’s climax. But I did like the ending lifts.

I think the program is more about his art work than the artist himself.
But yes, he was a despicable human who created beautiful art.

There is an amazing '80s song by the band Book of Love called "Modigliani (Lost in Your Eyes)" but I don't expect anyone to skate to it. I would love to be proven wrong, though!

I love this program on our Israeli siblings. She in particular shines and expresses this theme well. I always get a sense of joy of life from them. The youngest team here i believe.
