Some more gossip from Oberstdorf: Alexia Paganini (SUI) left coach Michael Huth. He told her she needed to decide between preparing for the season or focusing on shows.
Make of that what you will.
Ahhw... I was wondering about her in the GP alternates thread. Since she hadn´t posted much skating content except shows the last couple of months and seems to have done som travel recently, it didn´t look like she was preparing for a new season. Tbh it´s not surprising because how well the other Swiss ladies have done last season, she is a wonderful skater but she would need to really work hard to be able to get any spots at major events now and I guess the motivation is not there, not sure she would settle with just small comps and Challengers. I hope she can do whatever feels right and motivates her. If she can do shows I guess good for her. I will miss her though next season if we won´t see her!

Makar Suntsev, men, Finland has moved from Kotkan taitoluistelu to Tikkurilan taitoluisteluklubi. I don't know yet who the coach is now but will update this when his nationalt team profile is updated. This was on Makar's ig stories. Imo it was expected he will change to some bigger town to be able to continue studies.

Edit: Seems Makar still continues with his mother, but there are two more: (Tatyana Lebedeva, the mother), Liana Ocheretna, Aleksei Saks. Probably he trains with the mother when he is at home and with the others at other times.

Also just noticed Jari Krestiannikov, new national team member, has changed fromm Tapparan Taitoluistelu and former coach Susanna Haarala, to Peurunka Skating Academy Laukaa and also his new coach is Alisa Meyer-Virtanen. This noteable that Valtter's and Alina's team is really attracting boys.

Ladies Singles skater Vasilisa Bogomolova has switched from Russia to Cyprus.

Does anyone have any news on Korea's Minsol Kwan? I hear that she is being coached in Canada (I believe by Lee Barkell) and might be working towards representing Canada.
There are rumors about that which are floating around X a few days ago and I guess that it's might be the main reason for not showing up at the JGP selection comp a weeks ago.

I guess that she and her family saw an opportunity which she connects with Lee Barkell while waiting for the green light to represent Canada as their top junior skater.

She has a lot of options to spare during her off season which she can train with Coach Chi Hyun Jung (not sure about it or what arrangement are they are going to do)

And most importantly that she didn't need to undergo those local rankings comps like she used to.

A bunch of Korean skaters tend to train in Canada or have recently. Jia Shin, Junhwan Cha, Minsol Kwan, Lim/Quan, just to name a bunch. I wonder if there is a specific reason (maybe I am missing something).

If Minsol does indeed represent Canada, it can be a big help for their future in Women's skating. Besides Schizas and Ruiter, Canada already has added Uliana Shiryaeva from Russia, and they have some intriguing young skaters. It will be interesting to see if this does pan out and to see if Canada starts to rise again in the Women's discipline.

They're rumours that are speculation based on training with a Canadian coach. If she competes in a domestic Canadian competition, I'd give them creedence. But she hasn't.

But right now, it's people looking for a possible explanation for her not competing on the JGP. There could be other reasons that aren't a country change.

💯 When Uliana came, she did compete in small domestic events...until she was given the OK to compete for Canada

Minsol was listed as someone who was on the Korean national team camp this summer (the one from which the problems emerged for Haein Lee and Young You). I doubt if she would have been there if she was about to switch feds.

Lim/Quan are actually Canadian, so it's not surprising that they train in Canada. Lim was born in Canada of parents who immigrated from South Korea, and she also has South Korean citizenship. Quan was born in Iceland; his family moved to China and then to Canada when he was very young. According to Wikipedia, he is attempting to get South Korean citizenship in time for the 2036 2026 Olympics.

I know about these details. I was just saying that several Korean skaters train in Canada.

I just saw that is says he is aiming for the 2026 Olympics for citizenship, not 2036.
