2024-25 Programs by Discipline

I don't know those groups. I would need to listen to the particular song. :)

I agree that it's not a warhorse, which is good. I also agree if that Ilia likes it, that is very important.

For me (and again this is a matter of taste and I am not saying that my tastes, and my tastes alone, are the only ones worth listening to) the junior men tend to skate to songs with: monotonous music, that sort of rambles, then eventually comes to climax, but takes a while to get there. The singers tend to be men with higher pitched voices that sound, I'm sorry, whiny. (And personally I love, love, love, men with high voices. My very fav of all time, Philip Bailey tenor/falsetto lead for EWF, very high voice. Not scratchy and not whiny like the sad bois I've heard.

Way too much information, I know. But I've seen other people on social media call that kind of music "sad boi", so I am not alone. ;)
Ah.....okay, then what I'm thinking is not "sad boi." Cause I'm thinking of emo/pop-punk/alternative music. I was wondering if that was a new term for that. Lol.

Question though, would My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, etc be considered sad boi?
It'd be called American Emo Boi, and it can stay in the 2000s, sorry, lol. I'm not a fan of the vocal styling of those bands. There's nothing wrong with men getting in their feels though.

Definitely, this song was not what I expected when I saw he was choosing NF again. It's way slower and much less in-your-face. HOPE seemed more personal with who Ilia is as a skater, but if he likes this and can connect with it and perform it well, then that's all that matters. Notably, this is the second program for Ilia with the lyrics "I'm tired" in it.

Ilia has a public Spotify skating music playlist that's like 8 hours long. He's added the music for all his programs on that playlist at some point, usually well before it's made public what he's skating to. I guarantee that his new LP music is hiding in there somewhere...

Edit: I just checked, and the playlist is actually 71 hours long. He even updated 10 hours ago with new music. He also has 200+ hour playlists called "Psycho Vibez" and "Depression Session."

It will be a real shame if no one skates to Neil Diamond in Boston…I am…I said…

I actually thought "Hope" was a metaphor for the sport because it seems that for over 20 years I have waited for something different that would shake up the discipline and when I first Ilia at 2022 Nationals I thought he might be the one and boy has he delivered on that. As much as I like Jason Brown skating I understand that Ilia going to be the one to popularize skating to masses again in North America. I remember the 1990's when skating was everywhere. Almost every weekend there was at least one skating event , either ISU or professional, from late October to about early February and 50 city figure skating tours across the country. I am sad to see how far the sport has fallen since then. Ilia could be the one that could do that. He has the looks, the charisma, and most importantly the personality to get people interested in the sport again. When NBC put Ilia's free program people were awe and many were brought to tears by Ilia. He has the ability to transcend the sport of figure skating and make people who do not care about figure skating watch him skate and could inspire thousands of kids to try skating injecting sorely needed new blood into sport.

I have to laugh though at some his titles for his playlists, like "Depression Session" like what could Ilia be depressed about he is world champion and has the world at his feet. The other title I am not going to even try to figure what that one means. Ilia does beat to his own drummer and we have the privilege to watch him do that.

One last question. I think the last time I checked Jason was supposed to be in this ice show. Did he do this show? And if so what short program did he use an old one or his new one for this season.

We're of the same mind, dear friend. I'm very much an admirer of Ilia's skating, but as you know I pledge allegiance to no skater.

I've said it before. Skaters, entertain me, and I'm on your train. I do not find this entertaining. But I will concede that younger fans may enjoy it, and I don't have to like it for it to be successful in terms of point-getting.

PS. I think it's adorable that you apologize for calling this brand of music "whiny." I call it dragass dirges.

I think it should be given a chance. He skated with so much passion to "Hope." He might show that same passion to "Running." He clearly likes the artist. And one will be happy to skate to music by an artist they like.

We need more programs that has out-of-the-box music.

Speaking of tears, I actually had tears in my eyes from seeing the "Hope" EX be skated at the Gold on Ice show. The combo of the passion shown and the lyrics of the song got me in the feels.
I'm with you! Ilia is trying to growing as an artist; he's exploring and taking risks. His exhibition to NF's Hope was emotional and heart-grabbing (as is NF's music). The spread-eagle into a 3-axel was timed so perfectly to the musical phrasing that Ilia became the music and the singer's (NF's) voice. Choreo, skater, performance, videography, and a rapt audience = a genius moment. Later, when Ilia performed his raspberry twist after the lyrics: "Creating something no one else can." Very cool! When you know, you know. The praise in the comments is effusive from everyone, including non-fans of skating.

This Hope exhibition is very theatrical and would not translate easily to a competitive program. So, it's a great idea for Ilia to choose another song by NF that he is also moved by. With NF's Running, hopefully Ilia will bring similar passion and drama to a new sp for the new season! 💪

ETA:
I see Ilia's new sp was debuted at Dreams On Ice. It is less rap and more emo ballad. It can work for Ilia if he is moved by it. Obviously, the program needs fine-tuning and polishing, which can happen. This is still the off-season.

Which ice show? Jason will skate at Sun Valley and Friends on Ice, in August. He has cut back on his show schedule.

He is training two new competitive programs, but I don't know if he will use them at these shows. He has not announced the programs’ music.
