2024-26 Italian Figure Skating

At this point in time, who do we think will get the 1 Italian women's spot for the Olympics? Sarina Joos or Lara Naki Gutman? Or is there someone else?

Aside from her JGP assignments this season, Sarina hasn't competed a lot, and she didn't do well when she was on the ice...so I don't know about her going to the Olympics
I agree. Italy has one spot and are in contention for a bronze medal in the team event. They will have to be very smart about what they do with their assignments.

Dance will be G/F for sure
Pairs should be C/M for sure
Women they only have one.... so... they need someone with the most consistency for the team event... ( I don' t think there is a chance of any of their women winning a medal in the individual event) So it probably will be LNG
Men : this will be interesting. Rizzo used to be the most consistent but injuries have not helped with that. Memola is steadily becoming their most consistent athlete. However Grassl has a higher ceiling if he skates perfectly well... I'd split this event into two...

If Memola Rizzo are chosen : I'd put Rizzo on SP and Memola on LP
If Memola Grassl are chosen : I'd put Memola on Sp and Grassl on LP
If Grassl and Rizzo are chosen : I'd put Rizzo on Sp and Grassl on LP

If Frangi miraculously is chosen LOL :) I'd put him in the SP, in the LP and on my rooftop terrasse ;)

it will come down on who wins nationals i think, the other one will get Worlds. Anna is already national champion, if she's consistent in the first half of the season and wins nationals again she'll go. Sarina is a question mark, she didn't look in shape this season, but next season is a different pairs of shoes (blades? :ROFLMAO:). don't we have the chance to get an additional spot in dance? if so Tali/La Fornara will definitely go

only one spot in dance is confirmed as of now. Will Italy send Victoria and Carlo  to Beijing or are Tali-Lafornara already slotted in as Italy's number 2 ?

T/LF won JWorlds, Victoria and Carlo can't even make it to the free, i think we have our answer
not necessarily. Juniors is a completely different animal in dance.. Do you see Neset-Markelov anywhere near major events ? the Browns ? etc... T/LF may not have made the free dance either... if they had competed this year.

Juniors and Seniors are definitely different, but the American field is also very different than the Italian one.

N/M outscored their Jr scores (175.68 vs. 170.71 average), as did the Mrazkovi before them (178.14 vs. 172.04), and even the Browns (166.85 vs. 159.08). By the way, this holds true for LaLa too, 175.79 average in their first Sr season vs. 165.23 average in their last Jr season.
If that will also apply to T/LF, then that would be all they'd need to beat M/R (169.55 average vs. 168.65 average this season).

With only four (potentially 5) spots up for grabs, it won't be easy for any team. Reed/Ambrulevicius, Harris/Chan, maybe one of the Russian Ice Dance teams & a whole host of teams hovering around 168-174. And the Qualifying competition is also so early in the season, so lots of things will still be unpolished & rules unclear (as seen earlier this season).

I am very aware of that.

There is an extra lift in seniors :) and perhaps more choreo elements (I am not sure about choreo elements). So I find it a bit stretchy to compare things like that...

Yup. That was my concern. There are seasoned teams who will be competing against them and though they are good, they will be at their pretty much first competition in seniors, a completely different circus. I wish them the best, but they are "not going for sure" like one would assume.

I hope the Italian fed sends Victoria and Carlo and Tali and Lafornara head to head in a competition prior to the qualifying event.... because Victoria and Carlo were not far off the cut off for the free dance... they finished 23rd, just behind the Japanese and the Lithuanians. Who knows what the Hungarians will come up to and even Shane and Caro who tend to have much better free dances than RD (they had a terrible outing at worlds this year with mistakes on both the twizzles and pattern ) and have competed in the Free dance at previous WC. It will be tough.. that's all I am saying.

I think it is more likely to be between Lara Naki Gutman and Anna Pezetta. Sarina Joos has been poor in comparison this season. I think there would need to be a huge improvement next season for her to be in contention.

I've just had a look and Sarina Joos last competed in November, and Noemi Joos in September. I am now wondering whether they are changing feds again. The Italian ladies field is stronger now than it was a couple of years ago and Anna Pezzetta and Marina Piredda have both overtaken Sarina this season. Noemi does not appear to be competitive in the Italian junior field either - she is a fair way below their top juniors.

I'm thinking it's injury. She withdrew from Italian Nationals and Tallinn Trophy, injury would make sense for those withdrawals.

Yes, it could be injury. I just find it strange that neither of them have been competing.

Noemi posted on her instagram that she had a stress fracture

Aren't the Joos sisters coached by the same team as Livia Kaiser & Noelle Streuli, who have also struggled with injury this season? 🤔
According to their bios Noelle, Livia and Noemi are coached by the same team. Sarina has another coach listed.
