They counted the stumble in the choreo sequence as a fall, which I think was very harsh. He lost over 3 points there.

His choreo sequence was counted as a fall. That was a harsh call and cost him the gold. He’s going to be thinking about that a lot today.
Ah. I thought he missed out last year. I remember being very cross about his placement at Skate Canada, which I was sure would have been different (and a medal) if he had gone into it with a higher profile.

That's a very choice call. But with Sato having 5 points lead it would still left Shaidorv in silver. He didn't lose his GPF assignment to judges here, but elsewhere, when it was decided that Shimada needed a nod for his long service and his coach.
Hubbell and Donohue lost an Olympic Bronze medal to the Shibutanis because of a hand down during a twizzle sequence being counted as a fall. I think that if you lose your balance and your weight is being supported by the ice, then it is a fall. I think it's dumb for so many sliding sequences, but at least this motivates everyone to make sure the sliding sequences are polished and controlled.
Actually, Sato only won by 2.5 points, and so the potential points he lost was easily over 3 points, and would have gotten him the win as well.

That was a great watch. Of course there also was the poor Chinese guy, Nicolaj not doing his best this time, but Boyang looks to be on the way up even if the 4-lutz was not good and one of his compatriots surpassed him, Deniss was fabulous (his technical prowess might be less than others, but, oh, does that boy do justice to the music with his interpretation), I always love Matteo's skating and it's a pity things went wrong in the end, Nika was ok (I am not really a fan, there's not much else beside jumps), I've seen Adam do better in his Dune programme, Mikhail was superb, his componenents have improved and then when the technique is there it's very good (and his and his coaches joy was also worthwhile to see), and Shun did enough - he's done better but it was enough. A pity the programme is not really exciting.

Me,too. But even with not getting the PCS he deserved he still has the highest.

It was close enough to up PCSs for Sato a little and put Shaidorov in second without the call and it still would look okay. Where it was a deliberate ploy, it was in his first assignment. That one was a disgrace. Here it was what it was.

So, for all those wondering about Shaidorov's music: I looked at the description of it as submitted on Wiki, and what is highlight is that both musical themes are Epic, by Epic, very Epic... so, the theme is likely an epic musical soundtrack for an epic skate

Good perspective on the scores today.
I am getting a little disturbed at how many people only seem to be cheering on Mikhail to win just so that Daniel Grassl can be kicked out of the Final. I really hope that Daniel doesn't spend too much time online reading what people are saying about him. I think it's great to be Mikhail's fan, but it gets kind of weird when people are treating him as the means to kick Daniel out.

It's inevitable consequence of places in GPF decided by points between events and that final composition being well, somewhat artificial with everyone feeling they know who they want there. I don't mind a bit of shuffle like here, tbh. Grassl in the final does serve a greater good, since the final is in Italy. I wouldn't mind if Shaidorov placed instead of someone else since I feel he demonstrated skill to be in top 6 this year. But he is neither an exciting mind-blowing debut, nor have a strong fed behind him, nor a favorite of a huge army of fans clamoring for his inclusion.
He certainly seemed to skate more cautiously today, but Stefan was congratulating him for his patience when he finished.

My Sendai boy finally got himself a long-deserved GP title!
The FS today was a little rough but, just like Mark noted, he didn't give up on any elements and this is a very important part of a winning mentality. His SP is absolutely sublime and I hope his GPF and Nationals will be just as successful or more!
Matteo is such a beautiful skater. I really hope to see him at the Euros in an even better shape!

Someone finally noticed. Yes. His eyes were red yesterday and when he got on the ice today to warm up, he was grabbing at his nose multiple times. He did not look well. I did not think he was going to do well. As someone who dances, I can't even do mild choreo on land when I am sick. Clogged sinuses will make me look drunk, actually. My eustachian tubes are temporarily shot and my balance is gone. When my ears and sinuses clear, I can dance again with perfect balance.
Thankfully, I'm not a skater.
Before I forget, congrats to Shaidorov for that performance as well as making me laugh out loud at his reaction to being hit in the head with a stuffed animal on the replay. Great personality!
