2024 Cup of China Rhythm Dance

11 years?! :jaw: And I thought Aleksandra Golovkina was doing well last year bringing back a programme after 10 years! :drama:

I am going to have to hunt down the original version of Lajoie / Lagha's programme. I bet they were so cute!

Zachary Lagha often looks stroppy about his scores. Not an endearing quality, especially with such a high score.
I have the same impression about him and I agree that it is very off putting. Stop pretending like you are entitled to be judged the best team in the world. They were not perfect today either. All the teams in the top 3 today had to put in MANY years of hard work and waiting their turn before they scored in the high 80s in the RD.

Thank you both for your replies.

There is a resurfacing coming on now at the Warsaw Cup. I'm going to watch Sara CONTI / Niccolo MACII (ITA) now, who I missed because of the overlap between the two events. But, if there is enough time left after that, I'll watch Marjorie and Zach then.

:thank:

I think IAM posted the clip on their IG. It was so cute!

This is not the way I interpret his reactions at all. To me his disappointment always seems towards himself and wanting to skate his best to get good scores, rather than throwing shade at the judges.

Waiting for Green and Parsons to have a break-out performance. They are close.
They tend to build over a season and peak when it counts at nationals(excluding last season, but he was injured). Chock and Bates are obviously the top american team but there's lots of teams good enough for those second and third worlds spots. Nationals will be exciting.

My impression was that it looked more aimed at his partner here, as opposed to being aimed inward. But we aren't them so none of us actually know.

omg.. mark... stop it with the piano playing... Zach is alright.. but he is not as good as most music majors.
Well, Zach actually won the third price in Burgos music festival in the summer, and competed against few musicians who were doing music majors at university. The piece he played at the festival is a very complex one. Regarding that, one can google for the Chopin Andante Spianato & grande polonaise.
He is very much appreciated amongst the people from music community.

I am a music professional. I appreciate Zach. He is one of my favourite ice dancers. It just bugs me when announcers/commentators make a case that they are so multi-talented. Zach is actually a dance major at Concordia university. His mom is a pianist so he had very good instruction from an early age but for him to have a career as a pianist, he would need to focus on that. It doesn't mean he is not talented and interesting to listen to. He is however not at the level a 25 year old pianist who is focusing on music would be. At that age, pianists are pursuing doctoral studies or already have established themselves with big international competition, not small music festivals. To me, constantly mentioning this minimizes the amount of work and perseverance professional musicians have to face to make a living with music. It's not something you can do on the side, while you train full-time to reach the Olympics as a figure skater and have another major in another field for your post-secondary studies. I will leave it at that as it's not a very important matter but I thought I should answer you since you took the time to quote my comment. Zach himself said the pianist in the family is indeed his mother. Just like Marjorie said that she is no longer an aspiring actress... because they keep mentioning that on air since she did some work in that field when she was quite young. My comment is not to diminish Zach's talent or anything like that but rather that commentators get annoying repeating over and over the same stuff which is actually not always the best description of what the skaters really do. Why not talk about Zach's studies in Concordia ? That's really what he is choosing to do outside of the sport. Not music.

Yes, that is absolutely right. I fully agree. To be a pianist is not an easy thing and to take it to a high level is even more difficult and not possible for everyone. Zach may not be professional pianist, but he is definitely a very good one. To prepare for the summer festival, I read somewhere that for 6 full months, he worked 7 hours per day after training and because of that, he almost hurt his back. That is why I think in this case, it's ok the commentator mentionned him as a musician. With so many hours put on the piano, I do think he takes his art seriously, not doing it on the side, though he is focused on skating for sure. He is a Skater, indeed.

And perhaps my favourite skater. What the commentators should say is how his musical and dance training make him such a special figure skater. In any case, thank you for taking the time to write and allowing to clarify my point of view.
