2024 ISU International Adult Competition | Oberstdorf | May 12-17

Ach! Kelly GLARNER (FRA) was skating to an orchestral version of "Nothing Else Matters". And the music finished just as it was reaching the big bit! :bang: :bang: :bang:

Enjoyed it.

She goes into 17th position.

Never heard this version of "The Sound Of Silence" that Christina STEHLE (DEU) is skating to before. It's not the original by Simon And Garfunkel. Or the cover by Disturbed that we normally hear getting skated to. It's a female accoustic version.

I didn't really like this version.

She goes into 6th position.

Now for my fellow islander. First time I'll see her skate.

☘️ ALL THE BEST GRÁINNE!!! ☘️

Honestly, Gráinne looked like a rabbit in the headlights. She was terrified!

She was taking things very canny and easy. And then she fell. But, she got straight back up and carried on.

I don't know if Gráinne has done any competitions before. But, she did give the impression of being very inexperienced at competing.

But, every competitive skater has to start somewhere. So good on her for travelling to Germany and representing our island in this one.

She finishes in 15th position out of 21.

:cheer: WELL DONE GRÁINNE!!! :cheer:

When Eva HABEREDER (DEU) didn't start skating when the music started, I thought it was the wrong music or had started at the wrong place, and it was just taking a moment to sink in. But, she was just waiting for it to get to a particular point before she started.

I wish it had been the wrong music. That is the worst cover of "It's Raining Men" that I have ever heard! 🙉

But, she enjoyed herself. And it looks like her two companions sitting with her for the results are enjoying themselves too!

I was doing a bit of hunting around during the Warm-Up, and it turns out that Gráinne isn't as inexperienced as I thought when watching her today. She was 5th in this competition last year, with a score higher than this year's winner.

So, the nerves must just have got the better of her today for some reason.

CaroLiza_fan

What a beautiful programme from Teodora Nicole STELEA (GBR)!

And amongst the people sitting with her, she has the winner of the competition for the first batch of Bronze I skaters!

She goes into 2nd position.

Haven't felt like posting recently, but just want to say how beautiful Alev ŞAHIN (CAN)'s programme was.

She's the second Canadian skater with a Turkish name that I've seen here who I was impressed with (after Nilüfer ERDEBIL yesterday).

The girl after her, Kayleigh ROYCROFT (GBR), skated to a not great cover of "City Of Stars" from "La La Land".

And her companions had a massive Scottish flag that said "Team Scotland" with them!

That's all bases covered for you in rapid succession, @Diana Delafield ! ;)

We finish our first excursion into normal Free Skates with Amira METTLER (CHE) skating to "Nothing Else Matters".

Great way to finish the competition!

She may be trying to convince us that it doesn't matter, but she was very happy to finish in 5th position!

Because there was a withdrawal, we now have a short break of about 7 minutes until 5 minutes post the hour, when we will return to the Artistic Free Skates.

CaroLiza_fan

Actually, it is not a very long return to the Artistic Free Skates. It's a double-bill of Silver gentlemen, with a group of 7 Silver III gentlemen; followed by a group of 7 Silver I + II gentlemen

Livestream for the Silver III Men's Artistic FS is now on air.

I just popped into the Awards thread to reply to a post, and just as I left Emmanuel PERRIN (FRA) came on here with a new nominee!

OK, so the costume fits with the Hallowe'en theme. But still!

He was skating to what I can only describe as a death metal cover of "This Is Hallowe'en" from "The Nightmare Before Christmas".

Actually, I just did a search, and it might have been Marilyn Manson's cover (I didn't get a chance to listen to any of it betweeen skaters).

Whoever it is, I prefer the original version.

CaroLiza_fan

Felix WARNHOLTZ (DEU) skating to the 2014 Eurovision winning song "Rise Like A Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst.

Sorry Felix, but that will always be Anna Pogo's song.

And his compatriot Adrian STIEGLER (DEU) followed him with, I don't know how to describe it.

Put it like this: think of the 2009-10 OD from Oksana Domnina / Maxim Shabalin (RUS). And then go further!

CaroLiza_fan

Oh, the Men's competitions are being split by a resurfacing. I thought it would have been after the younger guys.

CaroLiza_fan

We stay with the Silver Men and move from the Silver III gentlemen to a group of 7 Silver I + II gentlemen

Livestream for the Silver I + II Men's Artistic FS competitions is now on air.

That was a dramatic programme from Takahiro NAGANO (JPN).

He goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Wow. This is the second time today that I have heard a version of "The Sound Of Silence" that I have never heard before. The singer was clearly basing his version on the original by Simon And Garfunkel. But, it just didn't sound right.

Mathieu FLAJOLET (CHE) goes into 2nd position.

CaroLiza_fan

Mickael BOSPHORE-WARD (GBR) is one lucky guy. Sitting there waiting for his scores surrounded by about 20 girls!

The Team Scotland flag I mentioned earlier was there too being held aloft.

It was an olè programme, but I can't find a male equivalent of the 💃 emoticon.

He goes into the lead. And deservedly so.

CaroLiza_fan

Ha! The skaters were too quick off the mark! They went out onto the ice as soon as the announcer started talking after the trumpets! After the North American announcer said her initial introduction, the local German announcer told them (in English) to get off the ice. But they didn't. So, the announcers continued with their speel.

It all got comical when they called the skaters onto the ice to start their 4 minute warm-up. Even though the skaters had already been on the ice for about half that length of time!

They say never work with children and animals. Well, maybe elderly figure skaters should be added to that! :p

CaroLiza_fan

You know what I said this morning about not working with elderly figure skaters. Well, it seems it applies to young figure skaters too!

When the announcer came on at the end of the Men's competition to tell us that there would be a 5 minute break before the next competition, all the skaters came out onto the ice. And they had to be told a couple of times to get off the ice. But, unlike their older counterparts, they did heed it eventually.

Back to the ladies, and back to the normal Free Skates fior the rest of the day. 23 Silver I ladies, arranged into a group of 5; followed by three groups of 6.

A piano version of "Zombie" by The Cranberries. And Agnese D'AMORE (GBR) is even wearing a green dress for skating to Irish music!

What a way to start the competition. Everything about that programme is beautiful.

By the way, I looked Agnese up to see if she was by any chance from NI, and it turns out that she is actually Italian (from Rome), but has been living in London for years!

I like her. I hope she does well.

CaroLiza_fan

And the second skater, Seren TUDOR (GBR), was great too!

She takes over the lead.

And Agnese was in the crowd surrounding her, applauding away and then jokingly chastising her about taking away her lead.

Yes, I like these two.
