2024 NHK Trophy Women's Short Program

I don't know about the ISU, but I think that commercial TV commentators might. In the U.S., Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir always find something that the sker can build on, even after a dreadful performance.

I personally approve. The skater knows she did not fulfill her hopes. No need to pile on.
I agree with you when it comes to the performance as a whole. But when individual jumps are obvious mistakes, I think its counterproductive to not point that out. That leads to unexpectedly low scores and disappointment for newer fans, and eventually to channels being changed. Lol

The first group was so fun :yahoo:To see clean skate after clean skate it created a nice atmosphere. The first 6 all scored withing the 60-69 range.
I was thinking "can this be a fully clean night for the women ?" and "can the next group all score above the 70 mark ?"
But I realised I just cursed the next skater, and Lindsay fell:slink:
And stangely nobody scored within 60 to 69 in the second group : the japanese scored above 70 but the others went below 59. I wonder if skating quite late plus having jet lag created bad conditions for the skaters. Or maybe it's just that Rinky got hungry after so many clean men and women:shrug:
Now the top skaters have the added pressure of getting another podium sweep for Japan. I'm exited for this free skate !:cheer:

Really like your comment, can't say anything else but give you all the reason

Does the ISU demand announcers be overly positive? For example, on Liu's combo he said great start on a jump that was called under later. Not only that, but the camera angle was perfect, her UR was textbook obvious with a giant semicircle tracing visible on the ice. I don't think he is that incompetent. Btw, some girls actually got away with stuff later , so this is not a criticism of her.
I dont thing its an ISU demand but this guy is overly positive about some elements that were not so good. Its HIS personality....

I see nothing wrong about being positive about a skater's good qualities. Jason B. still has quality artistry even though he is going through a rough period technically right now. I will not point out the times J and T said bad things about my fav skaters, but the voodoo dolls are on order.

The Japanese women continue to really be on fire this GP season. Kaori was terrific in the SP and I hope she is able to exorcise her FS demons this season here at NHK Trophy.

I realize they are in Japan, but 78 is too high for any woman to score in a SP without a 3A. Her PCS and GOE are too high compared to other very skilled skaters who have better upper body control and movement than she does. She always has a wrong edge on her lutz and probably should have gotten a q on the combo. Yes, she should be in first, but not by that much. Difficulty of content and being clean should be the primary deciding factors. PCS and GOE are too subjective to be anything other than just enough to be a tiebreaker between otherwise equal performances.

I am behind in watching so I just am watching now.. Mone Chiba short. Program.. is ABSOLUTE FIRE. I really really like it. It’s one of my favourited so far this season. She owns the music, and man how difficult to keep that tempo to the end. The landing on the 2 A that is sustained until the music pops was fantastic choreography. Well done.

To me, it's a case of "many paths, one goal.' Difficulty of content is amply rewarded in base values -- you can't win without it. "Being clean" is reflected in component scores and GOE.

Is 78 too high for an SP with no triple Axel? Kaori got 75 at Skte Canada for a performance that was not as good as this one. I am OK with it.
