Congratulations to all of the skaters today!

Ahh, a sweet and deserving win for Ilia. I'm glad to see Jun get a medal too.

Nice how Ted said on the Daily Motion/CBC feed how the Canadian audience was on their feet for IM at the end. What a talent and go Ilia!

edit in: later I saw the NBC rewatch on this skate...always enjoy Johnny and Tara's commentary

Not a fan of this Men's event, too many falls.
I don't like Jun's music. Liked Sota's free better than his short, the double spread eagles were beautiful. I wonder how many points Shun would have received had he skated clean. Guess it was clear from the beginning who would win.

Now I hope the Ice Dance will be full of great programs.

If they hosted Skate Canada International in Mississauga, Ontario this year, the stands would have been more packed just to see Malinin in person. He may not be the best artistic skater, but he is helping bring in the crowd (so long as ticket prices aren't like they were at Montreal Worlds)

Blasphemy! :coffee::coffee2::coffee::cheer:
Trigger warning: there's violence.

Shun has much more complex choreo than the other men. But, he doesn't have a lot of natural charisma. I say this as his number 1 fan.

Oh, I am so happy. Shun just always seems to lack confidence and the judges don't love him. I always want the best for him. He's so talented.
He is adorable in that “awkward kid” kind of way though. I’ve always wanted to adopt him and give him a hug 😍

On another note: My perfect podium 😍😍😍
Would have been happy with any order as long as they all make GPF!

This rather won't be enough for a medal for Sota. And sadly I have to say that I dislike the music for his FS, it seems like a highly generic OST, almost as if composed by AI.

Christopher Tin is an American composer of art music, often composed for film, television, and video game soundtracks. His work is primarily orchestral and choral, often with a world music influence. He won two Grammy Awards. [...]

I am worried about Roman and Jason. Beautiful skaters. Roman is running out of time and patience of Team Canada. Sounds like a legit injury but still this isn't good. Jason can get the triple axel but he has to sk ate clean to be remotely commmpetitive. He just doesnt have the tech points I mean he gets great GOEs but that's not enough against Ilia or even some the second and third tier who can score in the 170's and 180's. Jason's max is probably the 180s. I lia won and deservedly. I wonder which Japanese man whill take overr from Shoma and Yuzuru. Not a fan of the back flip; not used well.

Ilia won the free skate by a huge margin with only three quads. Of course, this includes two big ones. 4T, 4Fq, 4Lz.
Something tells me he isn’t too confident with 4S and 4Lo.
His layout actually had one less quad than Shun. Same quads just no solo 4T.
What I find interesting is that Ilia wins by executing good jumps and combos.
His -3T, eu 3S, 3A seq is actually what separates him from the competition.

Cha could have won the silver medal if he just added a 3T to the last triple jump.

Also, Aleksa could have finished in fifth place, if he just added a 2T to one of his triple jumps.

The guys lose valuable points by not prioritizing combos or understanding the rules.

Jason Brown lost points by simply not understanding that two 2A sequences is not valid.
Do the coaches and athletes not read the rules? 😩

I watched the men in replay at night. Having found the music choices less than exciting, starting from Economides I watched them to Maler's 2nd symphony (not a good match ). But, honestly, something is wrong with the sport if one would rather watch it without music. Pretty descent showing for Alexa Rakic (I thought), he can skate. Anyway, the symphony won, so I watched the leaders in the early morning, with music and all. What did Sota do to be in 4th?

I am not a fan of Cha's skating style, not a fan of this music either. But he can skate really well when in good form, and it'll hopefully look a lot better. I understand when Shun Sato gets high 7s for presentation -- whatever the music, he skates in the same tempo. In the middle of the program, when the music tempo matches his skating tempo, it suddenly makes sense. Spins are his weakness. Different thing with Sota, he starts slow and gains tempo and power with the music. He lacks a bit in extension, but in this program it's not critical. The choir music is powerful and sounds familiar, wonder who else C.Tin might have borrowed from. SS-wise, both Shun, Sota and Cha should be above Ilia. I didn't understand the judging here. I am not a fan of raspberries and somersaults as choreo features, the concept, the costume, this song together didn't make a whole lot of sense, skating-wise Ilia is, you know, imperfect. Last season's free was to a more interesting music, IMO.

Overall, an underwhelming event in all disciplines that I watched: men, ladies and pairs short (which made me want to skip pairs free, and I don't usually watch ice-dance).
