2024 Skate Canada Rhythm Dance

....

La/la music to me doesn’t make sense after the Austin Powers music. The fall was not on an element, but they should probably be 3rd.

....

Evidently "Shining Star" was on the soundtrack of Austin Powers 3. (so Google tells me). No idea why Boogie Wonderland, unless they wanted to just seque into another EW & F tune.

I have a bone to pick with Austin Powers. ;) Quincy Jones is one of the greatest pop composers, arrangers and bandleaders of all time. "Soul Bossa Nova" was a hit in the 60s. Not a huge hit, but still, not unheard of. Austin Powers made it more famous thirty years later, yes. And now that's all anyone thinks of.

Thank heavens EW&F appear to have escaped that fate.:drama:

Alicia Fabbri & Paul Ayer was great very Elvis style, is so interesting their interpretation maybe i missed a lot all shook up or return to the sender but was nice their RD.

Hollie Harris & Jason Chan very ABBA i enjoyed a lot , have rhythm and style i like it also own character..

I’m so proud of Piper & Paul 🇨🇦
This is clearly the best RD of the season. So fresh and different and they look so good doing it!
I thought Piper skated so well!!
I love how this Canadian team is also in a different camp than most of their competition. I’m so proud of them
I agree this is the best RD program so far though I agree with the other poster that they need to increase the power//speed or what I call amplitude. No excuse but she did just get married like I think 2 weeks ago.

I watched LaLa and then G/P back to back and I was surprised by how slow G/P looked in comparison, it was almost jarring. The RDs have never been their strength IMO, because you can see their weaknesses (especially speed) compared to other teams. She also needs to work on her expressions. They looked over the top and like pantomime. I thought I’d enjoy this program more.

OTOH I was surprised at how much I liked LaLa’s program as it seemed like such a cheesy concept. It’s too bad about the fall and how long it took to get back into their program, otherwise I’d expect the top 2 to be way closer in points.

That felt like a lot of disco. So, so much disco.

So when Piper and Paul offered something totally different it was such a breath of fresh air. They were the absolute class of the field here. That program is so clever, by far the best rhythm dance I've seen this season. I can't believe they made me love a Beach Boys dance, truly. I was worried about this when I heard what music they were skating to, but it is such a perfect choice — it sets them apart from everyone else. I watched this twice and caught more great choreographic touches on the second watch. And the best part is that this still has plenty of room to grow. More speed and power is first on the agenda, which I have no doubt will come as the season progresses, though honestly I didn't think they looked horribly slow here, just early season, first time out. Love the costumes. Love the whole vibe. They just embraced the whole theme and the camp of it all and I'm on board 100%.

Lajoie/Lagha were really lucky that fall wasn't on an element, and that everyone seems to be on their side, because they did take a long time to get back into the program. That said, I think the program works for them.

Lopareva/Brissaud's twizzles timed to the music were so clever and wonderful. The program seemed kinda 80s-ish though? Though I guess that whole futurist thing was big during the three decades in question: plastic, robots, space. But what social dances are they evoking? Rasputin seemed like a weird choice.

I was bored by the Taschlers. The American teams are all so close, though Zingas/Kolesnik have the most charisma. She is a star.

The Browns skating to Brown. It is an obvious choice.
And on my screen their costumes looked shades of brown also. I would not, however, had her dress shading from dark brown at the top down to "flesh beige". I was distracted throughout by the conviction that someone had forgotten to attach any pants to her dress, under the long skirt. Same colour as her tights up to her waist, and had me peering through my lorgnette and tut-tutting.

The last time there was any Rhythm Dance was 2022- Midnight Blues/street music with partial midnight blues pattern. Since the 2022 Olympics, it’s only been themes, not rhythms, and there won’t be a rhythm next year. It’s really difficult to see sections of paso placed into these dance themes, none of which is an actual paso. I feel badly for the athletes that have trained the dance rhythms and patterns their entire career, and now it’s not valued any more. 😞

I love the themes and the music is fun, but it’s just not ice dance.

I’m watching the replay of the rhythm dance and I’m totally lost at how Lajoie/Lagha managed a 2nd place finish with a fall that totally disrupted the performance and I’m not keen on their program either. I would have ranked them below the Taschlers. This felt like some fishy home cooking and it’s not like they have the street cred of being reigning world champions like Chock and Bates who also had a fall last week at Skate America, but immediately got back on track, and scored the same as the Canadians here. Zach sold the mistake from the time it happened all through the rest of the performance, during the bows, on the way to the kiss and cry, and in the kiss and cry. They were seriously over scored.

Standouts were Lopareva/Brissaud, who always bring unique music and interpretation; I always find them exciting to watch. Zingas/Kolesnik are hopefully on their way to making a statement to lay claim to being the 3rd best US dance team. I find the Taschlers so captivating to watch; they always convey a love for skating.

The class of the field, Piper and Paul really did a wonderful job conveying the mood and character of their dance theme and they were so smooth. Well deserved win!

I'm catching up and I just wanna say...

Paul and Piper win everything!!!

Although was it just me or did Oona and Gage get underscored something awful? They were my favourites of the US teams.

Also love Zhenya and Geoffrey they're doing the tradition of French dance proud.

Haven‘t watched P&P yet as I‘m abroad for the next 8 days, but I‘ll catch up asap. I bet they were fabulous 💛💛 wishing you all an exciting FD ❣️
Fingers crossed for the Taschlers to up the ante!

I feel bad for the French team and Zingas & Kolesnik.
I know Lajoie and Lagha didn't fall in an element and they had good levels, but the level of disruption that fall had, the affect it had on his performance, that doesn't seem like a fair result.

Oh and by the way, the behaviour I'm seeing online from certain fans of Lajoie and Lagha has been completely out of order and seems to be getting increasingly worse now. Rival teams do not deserve hatred for being better. I feel bad for anyone subject to that extreme level of "devotion" as well. It's just creepy.
