Also, I’m so happy Ksenia beat Sandrine after barely losing to her at Challenger and Nationals. The two real Novice girls beat the Junior girl. I hope all three get selected for NextGen next season.

Why is Sandrine not a real novice skater? Didn't they come 1-2-3 at Nationals?
Cause she is 14 and in my opinion, good enough to compete at Junior level.

I heard that when they announced the 3Lz as the single jump, in the JGP circuit, she stayed in Novice, as she hadn’t learned that jump yet. But, she did end up learning this lutz jump this season (2024). She is a Novice and is eligible to compete.

Lia/Ksenia are “true” Novice girls cause this is the only category they can compete in. They are 11 and 12.

Very tempted to buy the stream, but I bought too many this season...

The junior ladies field is crazy, going to be a long day for the judges, bless them :coffee: There will be a lot of lutzes reviews 😬

Nice to see 3 Norwegian junior ladies not done with the season yet, I wish them the best :cheer: Also I notice Sarina Joos is doing one more competition this season, but in juniors. Maybe she wants to collect more ranking points. Speaking of Italy, they have a crazy amount of entries in junior ladies.

In senior I want to give a special shout out to Frida Berge and wish her the best of luck in this competition. I thought she had maxed her content but she has really been working hard to challenge herself this season, and she has attacked and delivered stable competition through the whole season. She was picked for the National team next season but she declined the spot because of studies in Hong Kong, which sounds like an amazing chance. I don´t know if she is taking only a break or not, but this might be her last competition. At least for a long time. So I hope for her to end on a good note and be able to show off all the hard work this season! :hap10:

Pshhhh. Samdrine is novice. She has a lot she is working on and made the right choice to compete as a novice. Otherwise, she may not have been sent anywhere....

Hey, if you think that's long, I was looking through the old results pages for Spanish events earlier on trying to find scores for a Fan Fest I am working on (the skater in question is in tomorrow's 6 hour Junior Ladies competition), and I found out that the Basic Novice A Ladies competition at Nationals in 2017 had 71 entries!

Imagine being an official for that! :drama: :dbana:

If the juniors and seniors are not motivated seeing how good the novices are already, I don't know what it will take. These three young women were amazing today !

I just watched Lia’s SP.

The bad:
1) She barely landed her 3Lz. Good thing a triple triple is not allowed. She was able to save the combo with a 2T. I can see how she got negative GOE. I would have given that combo a 0 GOE.
2) Also, she stumbled a bit 5 seconds before her 2A.

The good:
1) Her presentation improved. She doesn’t skate like a robot. She skates like she is having fun. She engages with the audience. I also think she improved her skating skills. There was noticeable improvement since Nationals in the sense that she covers more ice.
2) Her 3F had so much flow out of it. I thought it was Kaori for a second. Also, her 2A had so much flow too.

I just finished watching her LP.

No Cons. Her 3F 3T was good. But, the 3T was her biggest struggle to get it rotated. Her 3Lz was okay. The 3S 2A 2A combo was spectacular. The 3Lo was her best triple loop ever. The 3S was solid and the final 3F was her best jump. The flow into and out of the 3F is top notch. Kaori style of speed out of that jump. She then finishes a spin and this is where she changed her program. The music was completely different from Nationals, just in time for her choreo. I loved it so much. Domestically, this is where she does her step sequence. But, here, she did three choreo moves and slides/glides that were fantastic with moves timed beautifully to the music. Deserved that 4.50 for that element. Lovely performance. Ended on a high note.
Wow! So proud of Lia 👏

Stavrina is 27th in the skating order. I can’t watch live. I hope she lands a 2A. Her hardest jump. At Nationals, her layout was 3Lz, 3T 2T, 1A
She struggles with the axel. She didn’t land a single one at Nationals. Also, she didn’t even attempt a 3Lz in the LP. Not a reliable jump for her. I think she fluked at Nationals by barely semi landing that jump in the SP. I’m hoping she does enough to make it to the final flight. She is against many skaters with similar technical content. Joos is in a class of her own here. Good luck to Stavrina 🇨🇦

You know, when I got the notification and read your post, I did wonder if you quoted the wrong post by mistake. But now I see why you quoted me - it is because the girl you are supporting is going straight after the girl I am supporting! ;)

Although, somehow I think this will be the only time they are skating close to each other this weekend.

:cheer: ZORTE ON JANIRE!!! :cheer:

Go Spain!! My motherland
I root for a Spain in soccer and tennis as this is the country where my parents are from.
So, of course I will also root for anyone from Spain, that is skating. I root for smaller federations, which is why I like and appreciate you as a poster in this forum. You make me automatically root for certain athletes I would normally not notice and I love your analysis of these athletes 🤗

Awwww!!! Thank you for your kind words!!! I'm blushing now. 😊

With the way the sport is dominated by skaters from the big Feds, I always like to help raise the profile of lesser known skaters from smaller Feds.

So glad that I was able to put you onto a skater from your ancestral homeland.

I first came across Janire about 7 years ago, when she was a guest skater at the Cyprus Championships. Her Dad is a former footballer, and he was managing a team in Cyprus. And while they were living there, Janire had the same coaching setup as two of the Cypriot skaters that I met and interviewed.

But, after moving back home to the Basque Country, I never heard anything of her again until this season's Spanish Championships. And it was just so good to see her again. She's a lot older now (she's 19), but she has barely changed. Even after all this time, I still managed to recognise her as soon as I saw her.

Believe it or not, this will be her first time competing at Junior level on the international stage. The last time she competed internationally, it was back in 2018, when she was at Basic Novice A level. And the irony is that this will probably be her only international competition at Junior level, because she ages out of Juniors in a few weeks time.

So, it's frustrating that this event is behind the paywall. But, I really hope some kind soul out there uploads Janire's programme somewhere that we can watch it for free.

Good job I was keeping an eye on the livescoring - we are running ahead of schedule. (Presumably because there have been two withdrawals).

Popping in to wish all the best to my Basque kid in her first international competition for 6 years, and her first at Junior level.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST JANIRE!!! :cheer:
