Lia did 3Lz+2T, 3F, LSp2, 2A, StSq2 and CCoSp3. Everything is in the positive GOEs, except for the combination, which has a slightly negative GOE.

She got two bonus points, as expected.
Good. Good performance for Lia. Highest TES and highest PCS. Knowing she can only do triple double, she was beatable. So, I’m satisfied with the result. The judges seemed to love her SP.

Canada in 🥇 🥉 and 6th!! All of them in the final group. Go Canada 🇨🇦

I didn’t know they couldn’t go for triple triples in the SP (Novice). Can anyone post the rules for LP (Novice)?

Can anyone post the rules for LP (Novice)?
  • 6 jumps
    • One Axel-type jump
    • Up to two combinations / one combination and one sequence, one of which can contain three jumps
    • Only two triple jumps can be repeated
    • All jumps (including singles) can only be executed twice
  • 2 spins
    • Change foot combination spin
    • Flying spin or spin in one position with change of foot and a flying entrance
  • 1 Step sequence
  • Bonus points:
    • One bonus point for a 2A
    • One bonus point each for two different Triples (So for example, a 3Lz+3T could get a bonus point on both jumps, but a 3T+3T could only get one bonus point for the first 3T, but if the skater landed another Triple during the program, both skaters could get all bonus points.).

Sorry, lost track of time writing a reply to another comment in this thread. Give me a moment.

Like yesterday, Day 3 starts in the Narcissa Cup, and ends in the Triglav Trophy. We only actually have two levels today - an Intermediate Novice double-bill; followed by an Advanced Novice double-bill.

And we start with a combined competition for the Intermediate Novices. 1 boy; followed by 45 girls. They are arranged into a group containing 1 boy and 7 girls; followed by two groups of 7 girls; followed by a resurfacing; followed by three groups of 8 girls.

Livestream for the Intermediate Novice FS competitions is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream (€3.99):
https://solidsport.com/triglav-trop.../triglav-trophy-narcisa-cup-friday-12-04-2024

Here are the Time Schedules:
Intermediate Novice Men's FS - https://results.isu.org/results/sea...INTNOV----FNL-000100--_StartListwithTimes.pdf
Intermediate Novice Ladies FS - https://results.isu.org/results/sea...INTNOV----FNL-000100--_StartListwithTimes.pdf

And here are the live scoring pages:
Intermediate Novice Men's FS - https://results.isu.org/results/season2324/sj2024nc/SEG011.htm
Intermediate Novice Ladies FS - https://results.isu.org/results/season2324/sj2024nc/SEG012.htm

Hope this helps

Of the top 10, Sandrine and Nicole de Rosa (ITA) are already Jr eligible, and Alicia Lengyelova (SVK) and Varvara Abramkina (CYP) turn Jr eligible next season. The rest turn Jr eligible the season after, as far as I can tell, with the exception of Lia, who turns Junior in 2026/27.

If I am totally honest, I think I would prefer Varvara to get another season under her belt before she moves up to Juniors. Get some more experience of competing in international fields.

This season was Varvara's first season competing in international events. Last season, she only competed once, at a domestic event in Bulgaria. And before last season, she had never competed outside of Moscow. So, she is still very new to this.

As I said earlier in this thread, it is not the trend for skaters representing Cyprus to move up to a higher level as soon as they become eligible. The only skater I can think of that did do that was Marilena Kitromilis, who went into Senior level as soon as she was eligible. The trend is to stay at the level until you age out of it. Which Marilena also did, because she moved up from Novice level when she aged out of it.

(For those that didn't notice it at the time, Marilena completely skipped Junior level, going straight from Novice level to Senior level. Which is why I was in favour of the age rules being adjusted, so as to prevent this. That said, I don't think the ISU have got it just right; they still need some tweaking. But this is not the place to discuss that).

That said, if Varvara did move up to Juniors next season, it would make for an intersting dynamic. Stefania Yakovleva has never had to contend with having a younger skater challenging her for assignments. Whenever Stefania had competition in the past, she was the younger skater. It would be interesting to see how Stefania got on with taking on the role of older, more experienced skater. And then how she copes with reverting to the younger skater role when she moves up to Seniors against her very close friend Marilena.

Plus, Varvara and Stefania up against each other would be the latest instalment of the old Moscow-St. Petersburg rivalry...

Not all of the skaters will move up, Nicole and Sandrine didn't move up to Juniors this season either after all (albeit probably for different reasons), it was just more of a general overview of the general age profile of this field.

Interestingly enough, Stefania and Angelina & Ilia went Junior as soon as possible (2021/22 for Stefania, 2019/20 for Angelina & Ilia). Stefania had 3 seasons of international Novice competitions under her belt at that point, but Angelina & Ilia had only one Novice season.

And look at how adorable they were back then:

And that is it for the Narcissa Cup this year. We now move full time into the Triglav Trophy. And we complete the day with an Advanced Novice double-bill. A group of 2 boys; followed by 49 girls.

Don't worry, I realised that. I just wanted to add a bit of context, so that there wouldn't be conspiracy theories going around if it didn't happen.

But thank you for doing the post. It was a very helpful post, as were all your other posts. I had often wondered what the bonus points were for, but was hesitant to ask.

Ah, I hadn't actually realised that was the case for Stefania. Thank you for pointing it out. (The pandemic seasons kinda mess with your mind! It's hard to remember what happened!)

I was talking generally about Singles skaters, but since you brought the Ice Dancers up, I definitely agree that Angelina and Ilia did the right thing moving up. With how successful their season in Advanced Novices was, they had nothing more to proove.

And look at how adorable they were back then:

I know!

For that matter, so were their team-mates:

(Since you linked to an Argentine Tango Pattern Dance, so have I!)

I actually looked Maria up a few weeks ago, and she's grown up into a very beautiful young lady. For the record, she's just over 2 months older than Angelina.

So sad neither of them is skating competitively anymore, but I guess that's the heartbreak that comes with partnered disciplines, especially in that age group. So many young and talented teams that never even made it to juniors, much less Seniors, which just makes it more special to see those that do, like Angelina and Ilia, who will be moving to Seniors next season.

I have to be honest, although Nikita was one of the early skaters that I adopted back when he was in Singles, I don't feel much sympathy for him. Let's face it, he has developed a reputation since switching to Ice Dance. It is his partners that I feel sorry for. And particularly Maria. She was so promising and so talented, but she hasn't been seen since.

But, you are right. Although there are lots of talented skaters that are no longer competing, we should be glad for having seen them in the first place. And grateful for the ones that are still competing.

Just in time for the final group.

3 Italians and 3 Canadians and a Croatian!! Good luck to all the skaters!!

But, wishing all the best to our Canadians (as who knows if this will be their last international event or not). The Europeans, I know will at least get to compete in multiple competitions after this one.

Good luck to Sandrine, Ksenia and of course, my ice princess, Lia Cho 🇨🇦

The girls from Cyprus and Slovakia seemed to have skated well. TES scores over 40. They liked the Slovakian skaters PCS way more than the Cyprus girl. I have no idea what a good score is, at this level.

Wow!! Then, Sandrine did really well. She just skated 80+. 🇨🇦
Highest TES and PCS score so far, in this competition. Wow! 👏
in the SP, she had the highest BV though she did fall on her lutz... she also had a stepseq level 3.. most had level 2. So that's awesome for her do to well also in the LP.

Sandrine is one of the older girls here, and has a full set of triples (except for the 3A ), even 3T+3T (I'm interested in finding out if she attempted it in the Free here). I fully expect her to move to Juniors next season and try to get one of the Canadian JGP spots.

Yeah. That's correct (re the jump arsenal). Glad that she stuck to novice though this year (I think she is already junior eligible right ? )as she got this assignment which could mean next gen now and JGP selection. Canada will only have 6 spots if I recall properly and will most likely give one spot per skater... So it may happen.

I understand why Canada may only give 1 spot to 6 different Jrs but really wish they would pick one or two to give 2 too. Just to give them a chance to improve after their 1st outing. but I know - how do you decide which ones would get a second event.

The only way i can see this happening is that a girl wins a medal in one of the first two events... they could then give her a chance to qualify with a second outing... Otherwise, they will not do it. I don't mind the one event per skater but I'd like it to be followed with a junior international event (challenger or smaller competition but another outing)

I'd also be in favour of Sr-eligible Juniors not being sent to JGPs but to Sr Challengers instead - Spread the assignments.
