No, the Russian athlete going to the qualification in China is a "neutral" athlete. She is skating for herself and not Russia. The substitute is only for this event and does not include the olympics.

If that athlete gets injured after securing the spot for herself and is not able to compete in the olympics, there will be no substitute for her from Russia.

Also ISU still needs to evaluate the athletes that Rusfed submitted. In the event that one or both athletes gets rejected, Russia cannot submit another name. If both gets rejected then there will be no "neutral" Russian athlete competing in the qualifying event and ofcourse none in the olympics too.

I've checked the video of the draft after reading your message. The part with Dima at the end was hard to watch, he was so upset that I got quite worried about him.

And I was most disappointed on Anna S laughing at him and the other skater when there were only 2 left for her to choose, implying than none of them were good enough to be picked. I don't really follow Anna so I can't say for sure, but from messages I've read she is usually portrayed as a self-image aware / politically correct person. So I was quite shocked that she could be this disrespectful to fellow skaters in the middle of a public event.

I think that's what probably irritated Dima the most. From his face, he was clearly upset when skaters were being chosen and he was being left out, but the laughing and mocking was probably the tipping point. And then he just couldn't contain himself and said that phrase to Trankov right there for everyone to hear it.

I just hope he gets to skate lights out in the competition and have a sweet revenge on all of this Go Dima!

The way I see it Zagi gifted Sasha the ladies draft by picking Frolova as a good friend over Elena. With the two juniors skating under senior rules they should dominate no matter what. Team Anna has a chance if Mura beats Akateva in SP, then Sinitsyna skates perfect maybe edging Frolova and taking 3rd behind Akateva. Still not enough to compensate for the FS gap. If Akateva lands a 3A (I expect she will) the tournament is over. Anna's men are huge but all inconsistent. There is some pressure on Semenenko to skate well, then Sarnovsky just lower tech and take a mid position and if Aliev can skate standard I'm sure others will bomb and be below him. If Anna's men all lock in it might give her the win but unlikely especially considering one will be skating a whole FS. Anna vs Sasha is close for sure anything can happen but Sasha has the probability on her side. Zagi no real win condition IMO, B/K cant save her. If Adeliia was here the FS would be more open/interesting with her against the juniors but otherwise its quite clean RN. Only Akateva could hypothetically beat the juniors with 3A and 2 4Ts but shes on the same team! Alina/Dasha no 3A its just a BV limit. I like team Sasha here.

P.S. I would be really happy to see Akateva skating FS and put on a show. Wouldn't be the best strategic decision cause even if shes perfect they maintain 1/2 in FS but Alisa wont beat Mura in SP so they drop a standing there (Elena would get eaten in the SP IMO her PCS is just not there the 3A doesnt matter. Only Mura has a hypothetical 3A to beat Alisa while the latter can easily challenge the other girls if she gets senior PCS she might even be a 2nd favourite while Elena with 3A might still miss podium against Frolova/Sinitsyna). Anyways I might tune in right when she skates just for her. Not concerned about the team standings but God willing I am ready for Akateva to drop a masterclass whichever program she chooses.
