Unfortunately The rules say the only person who can use the spot is the one who skated for it. It’s not for Russia or neutral athletes from Russia. But the skater themselves only. Like if Petrosian and Gorbacheva are named and Petrosian skates in China but gets injured she can’t be replaced by Gorbacheva in Italy because she didn’t skate in ChinaYou sure? I think if Adel wins the tournament she qualifies a spot for the country not just herself. So Russia has another skater locked in and if Adeliia were unable to attend, Russia would still have their reserve. Pretty sure thats the point of the reserve if it was only until September it'd be a little useless.

Then the "reserve" spot is the most useless thing ever. What a joke! Yea what Kitto says makes sense though, if she qualifies as neutral she cant lock it in for the country—the country is still banned. No, the Russian athlete going to the qualification in China is a "neutral" athlete. She is skating for herself and not Russia. The substitute is only for this event and does not include the olympics.
If that athlete gets injured after securing the spot for herself and is not able to compete in the olympics, there will be no substitute for her from Russia.
Also ISU still needs to evaluate the athletes that Rusfed submitted. In the event that one or both athletes gets rejected, Russia cannot submit another name. If both gets rejected then there will be no "neutral" Russian athlete competing in the qualifying event and ofcourse none in the olympics too.
The format is almost identical to the previous season.so the captains are actually picking who they want on their team? I think I remember it being like that when Alina/Zhenya were the captains
Dima: When I was coming here, I thought if I am chosen according to the residual principle, then the time has come...

Go Dima!
