2025 GP Finlandia Trophy Pairs Short Program

So, Volodin lost his pivot in the death spiral. Mark says they have been falling on the death spiral during practice here. How bizarre!

Reminds me of how Kazakova/Dmitriev also had a major problem with the death spiral when they were at the 1998 Olympics; however, they did go on to win, so hopefully Hase/Volodin can follow in their footsteps.

So far the last group is bringing it.
Personally I would have kept E/ f over k/ other.

The leader so far are tight less than a point 1sr -3rd . Fantastic job

Sectionals for a while. All in 70.40 70.24 70.19

The last group will be on very equal footing tomorrow in the FS. But, overall good competition just the usual mistakes on SBS and throws but more success than not. The death spiral mistake was surprising.

yes, and it's getting crowded.

You tempted the fate, now we have 4 pairs with 70.XX score! I wonder what was the closest score-wise event at ISU events in various disciplines, I mean like the median score for top 5 or top 10 in each one, probably Chat GPT is not there to help.

I’ll say it again, it appears P/S are the most consistent European pairs team this season; the European Championships could be very interesting in January.

Aww, the error took the wind out of the sails for G/A. They didn’t have their usual attack and presentation after that mistake.

One of our local commentators opined that they're ... past their peak and did well to make the most out of the chances they've got in their career by for instance winning silver at European Championships after Russia got banned (we know they've always had at least two podium contenders). She wasn't snarky or dismissive towards Ghilardi/Ambrosini & she complimented their willpower & style of skating as well. I have to agree with them, I'd be shocked to see them on the podium of major events again and I like watching them a lot.

Petition to rename the element to Life Spiral or Living Spiral! Surely naming an element "death" is flirting with fate 😅😅
(I have a skater friend who broke her ankle doing a death drop a couple of years ago... so that element also needs a new name lol)

There already is a life spiral

In addition to these contributions, the Protopopovs also created the backward-inside, forward-inside and forward-outside death spirals, which they originally named the Cosmic Spiral, Life Spiral and Love Spiral, respectively. These are still performed in pairs competitions today.

Life Spiral=forward-inside death spiral

It’s a shame they struggle so much with the jumps because they usually excel in all the components that make up PCS. Their packaging and programs are usually among my favorites of all pairs teams. I just wish they could have teamed up earlier in their career with a renowned jump coach like Mishin or Arutyunyan to help with their jump technique.
