2025 Skate Ontario Sectional Series | Aug 15-17

Wow!! Just came back!!
Both of them missed 166 and scored within one point of one another.
I think Uliana deserves the TBD spot for not only winning both domestic events. But, for scoring over 170 points both times.
Gabby/Kaiya are good. But, 5th/6th in Canada.
The TBD spot should go to Uliana 👏

I hope they do give Gabby and Kaiya a Challenger. Sorry about Breken. She looked tired today but 3 competitions in a month maybe too many. Uliana should also get a challenger before SC

i don't know... you have two former national champions that can help sell tickets... and someone almost nobody would know apart from us, skating fans...

what do you do ?

I'd personally give it to gabby. Might be her farewell event other than nationals.

Skate Canada is going to be under a lot of pressure to give it to Gabby. It is her farewell season and she will sell tickets. Same with Kaiya. But, a sport is a sport. How can they justify sending anybody that hasn’t even met the domestic benchmark. Uliana did it twice.

Also, the protocols are shameful.
Mostly for Gabby!!!
Gabby needs to add combos wherever possible.
She only did one combo. The 3T 2T in the second half.
Second time the triple triple isn’t executed. Clearly she doesn’t have the endurance for this jump in the second half.
Also, she landed the same amount of triples as she did in the SP: 3
That is why I thought she should stick to two 3T’s and two 3S’s after landing the 3Lz at the beginning.
Where is the fight? Had she added a 2A sequence to any of her jumps, she would have surpassed 166.
46 TES is actually too low.

Kaiya did slightly better. Her 50 TES score is at least above the 50 mark. Had she simply added a 1A sequence to one of her jumps, she would have beaten Gabby.

This shows Kaiya/Gabby don’t have the mentality needed for a Senior GP event. They will be killed by the competitors in these fields. I think it is best to focus on a Challenger event, later on in the season and then just focus on Sectionals, Challenge and Nationals.

I don’t see Skate Canada not sending Gabby though…. I just will be heartbroken for Uliana if this were to happen.

yeah but gabby is back after injury. it's normal that she is not top shape. Uliana and Kaiya are expected to be readier.

Don't forget Gabby is also an Olympic champion and a world medallst.

Tennis Canada just awarded a wild card to Genie Bouchard for her final tournament in Montreal... I heard commentators laughing... saying it was a waste etc... well, she won her first match and nearly defeated a seeded player in her second... it was very close. She played really well.

Who knows how Gabby would skate if she were granted that farewell Skate Canada ticket ?

It's August ! Give her a break :)

Anyone who gets that TBD spot will most likely not compete with the top skaters. That's expected. Uliana included. Her PCS was okay in the domestic summer events... but look at it being very low with an international flock of great skaters.
I don’t see Skate Canada not sending Gabby though…. I just will be heartbroken for Uliana if this were to happen.
I will not be heartbroken. Uliana has a lot of things she needs to work on first. I'd give her a couple challengers and some feedback about why she is not yet GP ready.

Meanwhile… Minsol is smart. The judges went hard on her in the free skate though. But, she makes sure she gets every combo in. Gabby, take note please
Her 3F 3T combo had an issue.
Her lutz got an edge call. This makes me think she should go back to the 3Lo in the SP. Both triple loops were landed with ease. I think that is her best jump. Too bad she isn’t competing as a Junior as she would have loved this season with the loop taking centre stage.
Also her final jumps, I think she gets tired. She probably isn’t putting in as much effort, knowing she doesn’t get to compete internationally this season.

If Minsol converts next season to Canada, we may not see the M&M duel (Maddie vs. Minsol). Maddie may retire and just handoff ladies singles to Minsol.
To me, Minsol has some work to do, if she is to represent Canada in the future. 179.26 is a good stepping stone though. 👏

I don't think she is going to represent Canada at this point.. but if she does, she will need to rotate her jumps. Kaiya gets buried when she doesn't ... so I don't think Canadian judges will do her any favours.

Isn't it possible that the TBD spot might go to KMS? She already has one GP. But of course without seeing her yet, she may not be in the running with SC. And with the list of entries for SCI, whom ever gets sent is in the bottom, and not sure having Uliana finish last or close to it in her first international event would be good. And once a Canadian Skater gets labelled internationally as not good in PCS it seems to stick with them no matter what.

SCI wouldn't be Uliana's first international event. She went to Denis Ten Memorial last season, where she finished fourth, and has the third highest SB of the Canadian women from 2024-25 (178.83). She also had a JGP in Istanbul.

I'd give it to her because I think she earned it on the basis of the summer competitions. That's what it should be based on, and she did the best out of the likely pool of candidates.

I think it's too early to tell... that's the whole point of high performance camp... that's usually there that things are finalized. I am still on team Gabby here and I hope she feels more confident soon with her jumps because she hasn't lost her speed and power, nor her flair.
