2025 World Championships Men's Short Program

I have Adam in podium position in my predictions, should be a breeze for him to come back from 9th to 3rd, right?
He did it last year from 19th, if I remember correctly!😀
Yup, I put him on 3rd...

I'm so anoyed (not by Adam, I expected he does exactly what he did).

I am so happy for Yuma and Ilia to put out two phenomenal programs - I think these are my favourite short programs from both of them - for Shun, who help up under the pressure wuth his gorgeous program, and for Andrew, who has my favourite program of the past two seasons. I'm sure people will have strong feelings about the scoring, but let's try to be respectful in our discourse - it is the judges who award the scores and most of these skaters are very young individuals who have a lot of pressure and expectation on their shoulders.
100% they are all amazing and incredibly hard working skaters. Nothing but love and respect.

About the scores, the PCS scores are inaccurate / don't really correspond with the bullets but unless the judging panels are separated this is going to continue. I don't think the ISU is willing to make/ has the resources for this change. So, the anger will continue but the scoring won't change. Just enjoy the beautiful skating.

I'm not sure Ilia's PCS should be much more higher than Misha's to be honest.

And the crooked landings have become a problem for Ilia this season. He doesn't have those big clean combos like Misha does.

He has such a technical advantage in the free skate he's a 95% chance of victory, but there were definitely flaws today and that 110 is worse than the near 75 points Liu got yesterday. This scoring is out of control. Sorry, but it's not right.

He should get 8.25 and Misha probably 7.75 and this would be fair if they want to keep Yuma below 9.50 and Adam and Kevin below 9. Ilia is still better than Misha but Misha grows quickly.

I think the judges are doing Ilia an immense disservice with those PCS. They’re scoring him like he has practically no room for improvement when he clearly does and has improved in the past, but not by nearly as dramatic a margin as the scores would seem to indicate. And Ilia would still have deservedly held the lead with lower PCS! Judging like this makes it very hard to stay invested in this sport, for me.

Ilia got 7 4's for a 4F that look on the q, but at the very least not fully rotated and this needs to be reflected in GOE.

Awkward 3A with a landing that looked on the q 4 4's and 4 3's.

4Lz-3T with both landing definitely on the q with huge prerotation on the 3T got 3 4's and 6 3's.

What world is it I'm in? What's going on?

Then 7 5's on the step sequence.

At least no perfect 10's this time just 9.75's.

It looks like they are trying to judge the way non skating audience would understand. You jump quads=you get PCS (but remember to check if it's Misha, he can get more realistic PCS).
They aren't doing favour to the sport. They annoyed me, a fan since early 90... even judges in 6.0 system weren't that annoying.

100%! I was just saying that yesterday when it came to Levito's program, and how although she's not my favorite skater, it was refreshing to hear quality classic music being used that wasn't the same generic emo Ambience music, or generic female ballad, or that sort of thing.

I was just thinking that I wish there was less vocal music and skaters went back to finding more unique music as they did in the days when vocals were prohibited. More variety in music in those days when there was no YouTube and Spotify, and you just had to go through a million cds! Really skaters have no excuse not to have more unique music choices. Do you remember Jeffrey Buttle in 2008 it's getting to ararat? We need programs like that!

I do as well, and I thought it was great when they first came in because it allowed a broader range of music, but now I feel like so many skaters just gravitate to these hyper emotional melodramatic pieces. When's the last time you saw a great program to some Fred Astaire style music, or some foxtrot or that sort of thing. You never see that anymore. As well, I think artistry is often more impressive when you're not interpreting lyrics, and instead you have to really Express the music itself
Yes, I sooo agree with everything you've said, Funnily enough allowing vocals has vastly reduced creativity and variety. I mean, there's also an epidemic of using these certain monotone instrumental music pieces, so I'm not sure where we would be if vocals were still forbidden. But just look at the 2010 Olympics, what a great variety of programs from the men. Compared to today, it was wild!
I also enjoyed Levito's program a lot for the reasons stated. Vocals work for me if they're used like in Ashley Wagner's Moulin Rouge program, but whenever I notice that a program is just a full length song, my interest immediately drops, because I know it's just the usual arm movements, ususal step sequence on the beat.

I'm not looking at protocols...
I'm almost sure they'll underscore Yuma in FS just in case Ilia's q will be that obvious that they won't be able to overlook them.

No real surprises. I liked Memola. Torgashev had a nice run.

Malinin was without peer or rival today. Can he keep it up in the LP?

Is it too early to start an ugly costume thread? My top two so far are Johnny Weir's celery-stick green outfit for the ladies' SP, and Ilia's tie-dyed camouflage suit here. :)

People’s tastes vary so wildly. I prefer full length songs.

Rescoring Ilia to reflect the not fully rotated single jump landings and the definite q landings on the combo puts him at about 103, and that's being a little generous. Then if we make the PCS more realistic say 8.75 across the board, which is still massively higher than Misha's puts Ilia at 100.

Which is more realistic of that performance, and with such incredible technical content in the free skate it would take a meltdown to lose even with 100 after the short program.

Which is funny because most non-skating fans I know can’t tell a quad from a triple, lol. Some of them can’t tell a double from a triple. (I’m sure there are others who feel differently, but that’s my anecdotal experience. They know it’s a big deal because of the commentary yelling about it.)

Ooh, I want to see a picture of the celery stick outfit! 😁 I don't know if the NBC broadcast is on Peacock yet or not.
