Wow! That is close! Kaori goes into 2nd position, but is only 0.16 behind Alysa! 😲

It's going to make for an exciting FS!!!

(Yes, I know they ISU doesn't add together the SP and FS scores in each category. But you know fine well that the skaters and their teams do! Just like the rest of us!)

I think this competition for Amber is more important then a post season event to just have fun she needs to show she can be counted on not just as a individual skater but as a team skater also if she wants to make the Olympic team. She has to show she can finish higher then a 7th place like she did here even if she makes the US team if she wants to to skate in the team competition because the USFS will want skaters they can count on when everything is on the line.

There are at least five US women with a legitimate shot to make the Olympic Team. So, everything counts. Even here at the "fun" event.

Think about the end of the season. The World Champion was third among the American women at 4CC. The National Champion was third among the American women at World's.

If you're going to make this Olympic Team, you better be on your game every time.

I stalked Liza Tut's ig. I think she had commentators' stuff.

What an interesting result at the top. Kaori won on both base values nd PCSs, both skaters did great on non-jump elements with all level fours and GOES in the 3s and 4s (and one 5 for Kaori.) The only hing was the imperfection on the combo. Will this rivalry be the start of something big?

This is always such a fun competition, the skaters clearly really enjoy competing as a team.

Mostly very good skates by the women today. Gubanova had a very nice comeback skate after the World championship disaster, but got too high PCS mark given how slow she was across the ice, I would have put Lara Naki Gutman and Mone Chiba in front of her. Sara Maude Dupuis did great and was a bit underscored IMO.

Looking at the overall standings it seems there could be a fascinating competition for 3rd place. After the pairs SP Canada, France and Italy may well be all be within 2-3poits of each other.
