I couldn't see any errors in Laurance & Guillaume's programme. Right from the start, they created a mood and I was totally transported into another world. Emotional, beautiful and skillful. They deserved their win.

For all of the talk of the US lock for first in Ice Dance and the Canadians being dismissed by the judges, I think these results are pretty interesting. I think Madi and Evan were gracious and professional but clearly you could see Evan's shock and Madi's frozen smile that was hiding a ton of emotion. I am just very happy for the Canadians and thrilled for their performance!

Interesting press conference, as Maddie and Evan looked so OVER all of this, and rightly so. Could she be any more disinterested in participating in this presser and her perfunct, clipped answers told the story. Hopefully there is a more thorough review of the judging here, although changing the medals is a moot point right now.

I haven't been able to sleep... I wonder if it's partly due to watching and rewatching Piper and Paul's free dance. I think I have watched their performance more often by now than Heated Rivalry (and I have watched the latter A LOT).

I doubt they will do so but I do hope they will go to worlds. They have done so much work to get these programs up to Olympic shape that I hope they get to perform at this level once more. Just because I am greedy and needy. Emo Paul is very endearing :). I loved seeing them together in interviews as well. There is a real and true bond between them. It's so nice to see. Enough rambling for me.. I better go to bed
Pray, tell how many times you rewatched?
Now, that I managed to calm myself, I think Brits may have lost the edge they had last 2 seasons and next quad isn't looking very good for them. I guess they may experience the same thing that happened to Italians last season.

I guess it's Brits making to many mistakes to be overlooked starting at Euros, where they still had some favor from the judges resulting in a medal, but when they repeated the same mistake yesterday, judges suddenly found their glasses and judged what they saw.
While I have no love for C/B skating, I find it very odd that they were hyped for full 4 years only be ditched last minute abd this leaves me conflicted about their reaction. I mean, they are experienced ice dancers, they know they don't have the best skills. So the fact the more skilled team (I dislike French team but I'm not going to insult their skills) won shouldn't be that shocking. But then, last 4 years they go every gold they wanted besides this one time at 4 Contients when better skater won and were hyped by both their fed and ISU as 100% OGMs, so I find their reaction somehow justified.

On the actual night (last night) there were three noticeable errors one that was glaring. Interesting treatment versus Gibson and Fear who got relatively hammered (though they would not have won bronze regardless considering how well Piper and Paul skated). The French team's program did not come off as magical last night wheres the Canadians program was magical, buttery smooth and real emotions. Honestly I wanted all three teams to be given gold. I wouldn't have added the Canadians but when I saw their RD and FD and thought they should have won over all much too my shock but they are worthy gold medallists too. Three excellent teams but the French made some errors that were noticeable.

I maintain that no matter the results C_B shouldn't have been shocked. They've been around long enough to see their own highs and lows occur sometimes through their own mistakes and sometimes when they've skated great without errors. You can be the favorite one day and the runnerup the next. That's what ice dance is.

I don't think I have ever heard Carol Lane's commentary, but I like Johnny and Tara just fine.

The "talking too much" comes from trying to explain elementary things to a broad audience including new fans and, in the case of the Olympics, once-every-four-year fans. Might be a little boring to us (would-be) experts ;) , but oh well -- talking is what NVC pays them for, after all.

They are not cruel or snarky toward any skater.
They are cruel and snarky all the time. Gracie even called them out on it in her book. Example from Johnny: “How dare Keegan bring out that mess of a Chaplin program after Hanyu just skated?”

I know nothing about ice dance scoring, but on the twizzle sequence Cizeron quite visibly hit his blade against his leg and that threw him off for a second. Otherwise, as far as I can see, they did fine. Maybe not Gillis and Poirier fine, but fine.

Chock and Bates did fine, too.

To me, that's sports. Somebody wins, somebody comes in second. Partisan fans are left to feel (in the words of @TontoK ) either smug or outraged. Fans of other skaters feel elated (Gillis and Poirier fans) or disappointed (Fear and Gibson fans) at the performances of their faves, never mind the placement. I was rooting for Chock and Bates, but overall I have no issues with the scoring.

(I know, I know. An ice dance fan who has no issues with the scoring? Is such a thing even possible? ;) )

But are you an ice dance fan? I thought the women (Kwan et.al.) were your main jam?
For me, the ladies have fallen off over the last decade or so in terms of the emotional satisfaction I get from their programs. Although Kaori Sakamoto's two programs in the Team Event here might make me rethink my position. :)

I do like ice dance, and for that matter, I like "dancy" programs in singles, like Kagiyama's charming and delightful short program this year.
