Are you referring to Belinda Noonan commentating? I love her commentary.... which network is she commentating?

Gumennik’s Perfume skate at Russian Nationals was an absolute masterpiece. To be forced to skate to bland music with Perfume’s choreography is something that no artist should have to consider, let alone perform. He had used Perfume all season, including at Olympics qualifying, so why at such a crucial time did copyright problems arise at such a late date? I’d had him as a possible podium contender, but that adulterated performance has destroyed his aspirations and deflated the hopes of his fans. #copygate

Because his team missed the part that Olympic copyright is stricter than for other competitions. They were not the only one facing issues with music being harder to CR for Olympics. For example, Canadian dancers prepared two RD routines in advance, in case they will be selected for Olympic team, because they could not clear the rights for their first choice of music. The guy with Minions also wasn't able to clear rights to the movie soundtrack, but eventually received a one-time permission from rights holder to present his program at the Olympics. With how close the scores are, AIN skater Gumennik can still place higher overall than the Russian men did in 2018 and 2022 (7th and 8th) which will be a huge success for him given the circumstances.

To be fair it's not just him experiencing those issues.

I really enjoyed this SP competition. The only poor skate was that of Vladimir Litvintsev, and clearly he wasn't his normal self. Yes there were some mistakes from other skaters, and probably a number of them are kicking themselves for them, but I think they should all be proud of their performances. Loved Andrew Torgashev's skate - so glad he has proved to himself he can pull the stops out in a top competition. Looking forward to his FS.
Really enjoyed Kyrlo's - he seems to be really progressing fast. And wasn't the 4th group great! So many distinctive personalities in that group.

Adam SHF is my favourite skater, so I was delighted with his exhilarating and near perfect skate, and because of my personal bias, of course I think he should have been first! I'll be re-watching his program many times over. Now looking forward to, and already feeling nervous about the FS competition for all those who qualified.

LOL, there was nothing special about that program either (and he ended way, way off the music there). It was a little better than what he had to do at the Olympics but the choreography is still just perfunctory, there's still a lack of depth in relation to the music.

Gummenik is obviously a better skater than Egadze and if you dont see that you are delusional.
If he is "obviously better", then why did he skate slower and with less complex choreography? Not to mention the vastly inferior musicality when comparing those two programs.

Because his program was quickly cooked 3 days ago. Vikas has been skating same program whole season.

The copyrights are harder on ice dance because they can't go bck to old routines like other teams who should have a repertoire. It has to be 90's. I don't undersand why Petr didn't have an old sp. But regardless it is a difficult thing and yes the olympics are harsher as to copyright. This is ridiculous though that in part Petr's placements are affected by the copy right issue. He is quite the artist and to have his happaen well I guess that's life.

I was going to write here that kudos to the men who really brought i. Admittedly I "hope" the skaers who have been consisently at the top do well here. I see inconsistent skaters like the French, Italians, Mikhail and Cha all did fairly well here. I hope Ilia isn't shaken. He didn't score badly and he won the sp but I thought he would score higher. Shun must be mad at himself. The podium is open though Ilia has a 5 pt lead going into the fs and that tends to be his strength. That 5 pts could be key if he makes some mistakes though he should still be in it with the no. of quads unless he does what Alina Zagotova did in 2018 at Worlds. But the Americans brought in his jumping coach just in case. That's what I don't understand it sounds like some skaters/athletes have unlimited funds. Changing costumes yet again, bringing in coaches, support and flying around themselves in th elure of Olympic glory. Looks like those over 90 have a chance at a medal. The top 3 are oer 100 and look good but you never know as ice is slippery. Andrew T could do some damage if he skates like he did at US Nats. Impressed by Gogo in tenth though he will be hard presssed to hold on to top ten.

Oh Shun! I’m sad! I had hopes for a Bronze for him.

Must say Ilia is doing very well for his first Olympics. Makes me wonder why Nathan melted down at his first Olympics. There were rumours of his parents interfering? I get the vibe that Ilia is very much in control of his destiny. Same but different vibes to Alysa. Does what he wants.

A provision was made to allow AIN athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in the Olympics even though they have been banned by the ISU from competing in internationals. You know, the whole being at war with Ukraine thing and all.

The skaters coached by Eteri are also lucky to compete here (heck Eteri herself is lucky to be there, and deserves boos every time she is on the large screen or even mentioned).
Lol. I know that sarcasm is difficult to get when it's written for some brains.

I think it's different to come to your first Olympics as a 2-time consecutive reigning World Champion and reigning GPF Champion (and you've won WTT 2 times too with your teammates) compared to fresh off barely winning a GPF title and 7th at your most recent and first Worlds. It's also why I don't really get people wishing 2018 Nathan Chen Olympics to Ilia - he's on a different point of his career.

Figure skating is not the only sport where music is used. Imagine to change the music in gymnastics or artistic swimming. Their sport organizations clearly do something. But in FS we had too many skaters too close to Olympics suddenly with music troubles. Because ISU is not a sport organization. They are in minus in spor income. They earn in their previous investments and want to live like that occasionally pretending that they are working.

Gumennik said in the interview that they sent a request months ago but got a denial just a couple of days before the Olympics. Again Russians are informed too late.
American dancers got approval for the same music from American copyright holder. Naturally. Why would they give an approval to someone who has more difficult program than Malinin (same jumps but higher levels on other elements).

As for PCS as expected to be low for a new skater. Well, Valova/Vasiliev showed up as substitute at their first Wolds and won it. It's not possible nowadays at all and this not right for sport.

If they weren't recieving a responce, assuming it would be positive seems unwise. Having a backup program in good shape with secure copyright would have been prudent. There is plenty of Rusdian music that's nocer than the waltz 1805.

You asked how come you cannot tell he has superior musicality and composition, so yes this is how.
You seem to be misunderstanding something. The discussion was about you being biased for the Russian skater and not fairly judging Egadze's qualities.

You claim Gumennik should get higher PCS but offer no analysis of the programs. You claim he is "obviously better" when he wasn't.
