There simply aren't as many Japanese now willing to pay for the trip and the tickets, not even for Kaori.

I just thought, Amber may not be in a place to win but she could do a Chen 18 and bring an absolute blinder of a free now that she has nothing to lose.
Hoping you're right about Amber. I'd love to see her redeem herself so she can leave with her head high!

I'm guessing Amber would have been in 4th if clean, somewhere in the 74-75 range? Really. She's about 9 points out of Bronze position. Ya never know. Anything can happen with a fantastic skate, Lol. But plenty of those near the top would have to struggle.

Also, do we like that a double gets 0 points in a short program (and not 2-3 or so) ?
Amber would have been likely second. The air came out of the program after the 2 loop. She lost about 7 points on the loop, 1.5 points on Stsq GOE, .5 points on layback GOE and 1+ points on PCS. I think she would have scored around 77.5 to 78. I hope being in the second group will free her up to laydown a 150 plus freeskate.

Wasn’t surprised with the obvious judges’ country biased but still disappointed because some weren’t even subtle about it especially with marking down like the American judge burying Haein to 14th and Petrosyan to 11th.

But even with that I think the placements are still correct.

Nakai really stole the show tonight and hopefully she can hold on to that top spot.

If you mean a shot at the podium...much as I love Isabeau, IDK if that's in the cards for these Olympics.

Yeah the international judges really have been dumping Isabeau since she got back,
If she delivers a FS anything like what she did at Nationals then I hope they go with it
and give her a good score in the 140s, but for a podium she would need that to happen
plus a miserable final group.

Could see her moving up to 6th or 5th with a clean skate though

I'm beyond pissed I have to suffer through getting another overscored Russian Eteri skater shoved in my face at the Olympics.
But the rest of the performance were great.

I want this gold for Kaori so much, but I hope she can skate clean and enjoy herself. The short was a good start.

Mone and Ami were both fantastic, Alysa too. I think Isabeau was a bit underscored. Loena looked so good. Haven't enjoyed a program of hers for a long time, but this was great and not empty and tacky.

I also enjoyed Haeien, Nina and Niina.

Amber looked about done with the world, but she still has a chance. Glad Lara made the free.

Overall a great night.

Oh sweet pea, Petrosian was scored accordingly. I for one am sick of Liu getting overscored. Liu to me just looks sloppy.

Guys how are we not talking about Snoop Dog and Martha Stewart?? They had more air time than some of the skaters. Does anyone have videos of the performances they commentated on? Can the ISU hire them instead of the dreadful Irish/Scottish/whatever crap accent they have now? Like...I'm just so fascinated.

That ‘s Just Mathematically impossible even if you give Amber perfect GOE on that loop.
You're ignoring the fact that her GOEs on other elements decreased after the loop. She would have carried her usual speed and passion through the rest of the program if she hadn't doubled the loop. Her PCS would have also been at least a point higher.

Yeah, it’s really unfortunate that she let the performance go after the 2loop. She acted like she wanted to quit after that mistake. You could see she had a slight slip at the beginning of the footwork sequence and she was not as committed to the character or music. :(

I’m confused, do you not get marks for a 2loop? Even if Amber got less marks, surely she could keep performing to make it up in PCS etc

Why was it practically as bad as a fall?
