2026 U.S.Nationals Senior Women Short Program

Favorite out of the first group was Brooke Gewalt--never seen her before, which is what is so great about watching nationals. I guess Johnny thinks it illegal to do a balletic program in the modern era, but its not??? And her program was much more vintage than classical. Anyway, for me, she had the best fully integrated interpretation, the jumps seemed to flow in the program's story. Really glad to be introduced to her.

Apparently we need to get rid of some bad energy!

Anyone notice all the comments about the sacrifices families make to enable these skaters to arrive and compete at Nationals? I sure don't remember ever hearing it so frequently during coverage of a competition.
Maybe USFS is trying to make the sport sound less elitist and only-for-the-rich? (just spitballing here).

Alina got called up to Nationals only a week ago or so, she had a nightmare skate at Sectionals that kept her from qualifying until AMZ withdrew but I am so glad she made it to Nationals! She has some truly gorgeous jumps, it's such a shame about the flip fall but that opening combo was spectacular.

When Peggy Fleming used to commentate. She brought it up

Sonja is such a cool skater and I love this program so much. She recorded the sounds of her blades doing the step sequence and then added it to her music edit to give the effect of tap-dancing on ice, and she does so well staying exactly on beat during the steps. She also designed and made this costume herself, was one of the first skaters to do the toe-pick rock in a sit spin, and does a knee slide into a 2A!
