There was one year at US Nats when the rest of the top women were tiny teenagers. Then came Tonia, and Uncle Dick Button...never one to mince words...said "there's a woman on the ice!"

Good old Uncle Dick. Makes me smile to this day. 🥰
Here's my favorite Tonia K memory. She was in a made for TV Christmas special. The nominal headliner was Dorothy Hamill, although Tonia had the titular role. Elvis Stojko was the sinister frost wizard. It was a charming children's story.

I wrote a fan letter to Tonia thanking her for the show. This was before social media or even email was a thing. She wrote back! Made my day.

I've ony managed to catch up with the Women just now and I'm still crying. 😭

Kaori will forever be my favourite female skater, but the whole women's event has changed for the better so much in the last years, I feel we're in good hands with Mone, Nina, and all the others.
Kaori is probably the dominant world champion that I have appreciated the most ever and we have been grace by so many fabulous legends. There is something about her personality that just transcends sport and being the great athlete that she is. She's going to be missed. I like Mone and many others too, but I don't think Kaori will be replaced that easily :)

Kaori is also the most decorated Olympic woman with 4 medals (in singles and by total number of medals) on top of her 4 world titles. Amazing longevity at the top. I could write a bookl on how much I appreciate what she's brought to the sport of women skating, just when I was willing to quit watching it.

Happy birthday @dorispulaski and @Mathman from the Dutch woman (and no, this isn't Amsterdam)!

I've just watched the women's FS, something I don't do that often, but I wanted to watch Kaori's last FS. And she delivered, I started crying myself (in the good way). Nina also made me pink away a few tears, while Mone impressed me too. So did Lara Naki with her wonderful Jaws programme. I felt sorry for Isabeau who wanted to be less cautious but had a little slip up. Poor, poor Amber. Such a lovely woman, hitting a super 3A, and then just making mistakes. Anastasiia also had a lovely skate, just not enough with all these great skates after her (and some before her). Happy for Madeline too, maybe not her best skate, but at least she got to skate the Free!

Kaori's reaction in the K&C was also thrilling. So wondrous to see someone respond like that.

I wasn't able to watch the men's free skate live, but I noticed from the protocols that Ilia Malinin got five 10s in Presentation and Yuma Kagiyama got six 10s scattered over Composition, Presentation and Skating Skills. Must have been a humdinger.

Jacob Sanchez had a solid first time experience.

Watch Yuma.

Thank me later. :)

Yuma was brilliant.

Ilia and perfect tens don't sit well with me but he skated like a deserving world champion.

I'm not going to watch the Free Skate ever - but with those programs, they should never be crossing 85. Let alone 95 and 96 respectively.

PCS is an utter farce in this sport at this point. Even Hanyu's 2017 worlds LP and Fernandez's 2016 Worlds LP didn't deserve to cross 95 as far as I'm concerned, and those two were much better skaters overall, skating much better programs.
