Mathman AND Doris have their birthdays today? Wow, happy birthday! πŸ°πŸŽ‰
:hb:πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚
You bet!

Yuma's skate today is now on my personal GOAT list. For me, it was the best silver medal men's performance since Paul Wylie in Albertville.

(Boy howdy, that was a loooooong time ago...)
Odd the things I remember. Paul Wylie in Albertville, it was after he skated when he was being congratulated by his parents and his girlfriend of the time. As he's hugging his mother, his girlfriend is hastily wiping off her lip gloss so as to not smear it on him when she kisses him πŸ’‹πŸ˜š

yup... on my 4ever list like Patrick's Chopin at 4CC and 2017 Nationals Journey and Shoma's best programs. There are not that many in men singles...

It was an incredible performance by Malinin, Kagiyama came out and from up in the heavens where I was sitting the extra speed and skills of Kagiyama were apparent but totally blew it on his final jump otherwise it would have been only a few points in it.

Still, Ilia has nothing to prove if he wins the next four championships it changes nothing he needs that Olympics gold to end any debate about greatness, and the pressure come 2030 will be immense. It's something he'll be thinking about every day for the next four years.

We know he can win worlds and he will do it with ease, but can he ever handle the Olympics is the question.
Also who knows how many more quads will come from others in the next four years. That and staying healthy can’t be predicted with a crystal ball

I've now been forced to watch Kagiyama's LP*. Everything aside, it's a trip to not just see a Lutz that was obvious going off a less than ideal edge getting more than +3 raw GOE, and then the commentator going on about Kagiyama's "top quality" jumps one jumping pass later. And then not even all landings were on the mark after that.

*The person who did this to me has been relocated to my Enemies List.

I think the loop Amber popped in the long program was supposed to have the +2A+2A sequence after it. I was impressed that she at least attempted to tack on an axel sequence to a later jump. I don't think she's been one to shift/make-up combos like that. It didn't really work, but it stood out to me that she tried!

You'll have to watch and report back to us.

But seriously, Yuma's skate was off-the-charts marvelous. Best Turandot ever; I swear that even Puccini himself would have been proud!
I'll say it a different way: Shizuka Arakawa probably feels proud that she taught her skating nation to turandot ;)

Yup, I checked; it definitely had that special moment vibe. Not just a perfect skate but also a very special performance.
Kevin's reaction alone was worth the watching

So glad you enjoyed! :jump3:

Kevin really is a cutie pie, isn't he? And now I have to hunt up that performance of Shizuka's...

Tatarata! I watched the men's Free and it started off great immediately, I thought Andreas did really well (and he did rise in the standings quite a bit), I was a bit sad for Deniss who can really do much better, but it definitely wasn't his day (despite it being his 10th WC). Lots of good jobs (glad Nika could redeem himstelf a bit as well). Kevin was not just a good job, not only his skate (which was terrific despite a fall), but his reactions in the K&C but also in the leader's chair are really something. Let's hope Donovan skates to music next time in which he proudly can demonstrate his swinging hips again (I missed that). I am so happy that Yuma finally skated his FS as it should be skated. What an ultimate joy, his best FS yet. Liked Jacob and Andrew as well, but the level wasn't Yuma's. Good to see Alexandr not to cactus too badly (he really must be pleased). Sadly, Adam can better do catch-up than defend. I am still in love with Stephen's step sequence, while Shun had a good showing again. I am glad Ilia did well this time (that Olympic FS was heart breaking). Nice afternoon with the men, even if they did 'men' as usual. I am glad Yuma did! And wasn't that hug of Ilia and Yuma just great to watch?

Naturally I watched the FD as well. Tonia was relatively quiet this time, but Mark made it obvious where the deductions and/or not highly scored turns came from. Very helpful because I forgot to look at the Tec box quite a few times becausxe I was pulled into the performances. Except for his commentary about Lilah and Lewis whose outing looked good, but wasn't scored that high - and Mark didn't expect it either. And of course it was Tonia who saw why Christina and Anthony got a costume deduction. I was sad Juulia and Mathias couldn't enter. I usually love to watch them. Good to see that even in ID couples can rise (or go down) quite a bit - talking about Marie- Jade and Romain here -from 20th to 13th is really big in ID. Great to see Olivia and Tim doing it again - and it was a great performance. Nice to see Emilea and Vadym get a bronze, and Piper and Paul getting a silver with a different programme (also well-known but still it must have been a challenge). Happy to see Laurence and Guillaume showing their Olympic Gold wasn't a fluke despite all discussions. I was - as I always am by this FD - mesmerised again. So, the ID part of World's was good too. I do love Post-Olympic World's!

I'm reminded of Shoma's Turandot when I look at Yuma's costume and the selection of that piece but Yuma's specially made musical in the background of his skating made me think he was in the midst of the Renaissance while the blue velvet clad chorus sang. The arrangement is like nothing else and I've been waiting all season to see it performed like this.

I looked away from the screen for a moment during that performance (to reassure my cat that his dish would be refilled and just hang on, please) and when I looked back they were talking about a
"costume malfunction". What happened, to whom? I thought maybe a red flower thingy had fallen off her dress, but didn't see one on the ice. Neither of them seemed to have anything torn and hanging down?

He was just on fire today. So happy for him!

Tonia was the one who mentioned it but for the life of me, I couldn't see anything, either. :shrug:Could have been a sequin or two...maybe I'll watch it again.

Honestly, cats need to learn that sometimes there are more important things than keeping their dishes filled.
