A fair way to pick GPF finalists?

I believe if the noun is plural (regardless of whether the meaning is singular, e.g., "sales"), you treat is as plural. In the case of the ISU, it *should* be singular. However, colloquially, at least in British English, there is an acceptance of using the plural verb (and pronouns) for organizations. You could argue that organizations are a collection of individuals, so they are plural by implication. It gets even more confusing, as in BrE "staff" (staff members) is often treated as plural, e.g., "the staff are on strike".

I'll shut up now and get back to what I should be writing :p

aw dont shut up!
great & educational post!

The points Rodeghiero received for placing third at TEB allowed her to move up in the world standings from #26 to #17 and into the second warm up group at the RC ahead of Sotnikova, Helgesson, and Chartrand. The time schedule released by the ISU can be seen here: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/gprus2015/gprus2015_Ladies_SP_TimeSchedule.pdf

Her bio along with Peng/Zheng's were probably updated ASAP because they were the only two to be competing at the RC after TEB. Perhaps the ISU had bigger fish to fry than worrying about some little internet biography that hardly anyone visits anyway.

Whether you're too stubborn enough to acknowledge it or not is your problem, but the SP standing for Rodeghiero was clearly used as the final result or she wouldn't have moved up in the start order. I have no idea why that would that would only be applied to this Italian lady and not every other skater at TEB.

In case you were wondering, P/Z's placement in the world standings after TEB did not affect their start order.

So I must be stubborn too I guess ... along with golden411icecoverage and many others who hold a similar position??

In my mind, it would make perfect sense that only select bios were updated (namely, all those competing at CoR) so the ISU could meet/uphold the existing rules for 'skating order' at CoR. If the ISU had not assigned TEB points for those skating at CoR, they would have failed in their responsibility to post GP event point updates before the start of the next GP event (since, as you mention, this affects World Rankings which determines skating order).

The last thing the ISU needed was to have the TEB issue 'spill-over' to CoR and unnecessarily affect the skaters competing there. The whole thing would just snowball from there!

As I mentioned earlier...

Although some might argue that the 'partial' release of TEB points today is evidence of a scheme to slowly "drip out" the official decision (which, if true, would rise to the level of "drama"). However, it is far more likely it was done only out of necessity (so that the order of skating ot CoR would reflect the set ISU rules).

So given the evidence, golden411icecoverage's opinion — that it is unclear the ISU has made a final determination that the "SP placements [are] final" — seems to be a credible possibility. Therefore, continued support of that opinion can hardly be labelled as "stubbornness"!!

I already had been well aware of Rodighiero and the Rostelecom starting order, thanks to chuckm's explanation in the thread two days ago :).

To elaborate on my caution ("stubbornness" in your words ):

In the unprecedented circumstance of the TEB cancellation, it is not unthinkable to me that the ISU would temporarily award full ISU standing points based on the TEB SPs -- for the sake of those competing at the remaining GPs .. but that the ISU ultimately would alter how standing points are awarded -- and decide against recognizing the TEB SP results as full-fledged GP results.

Until the ISU makes a clear announcement, all bets are off, IMO. YMMV.

As I have been saying ad nauseam, updating the bios takes very little time for the ISU. Usually happens within hours of the completion of an ISU-sanctioned comp. The "bigger fish to fry" argument holds no water.

Whether it is clear or not is a matter of opinion. For the reason I previously have stated, it remains unclear to me:

The bios of most TEB skaters still have not been updated -- almost 48 hours since the World Standings charts were updated. Something is holding the ISU back from updating the bios of most TEB skaters -- including (for example) Shoma; Gracie; Tatiana/Max; and Madi/Zach.

If the SP placements were final, I see no reason why the bios of Shoma; Gracie; Tatiana/Max; and Madi/Zach would not already show that they placed first at TEB. Etc., etc.

If the SP placements were final, the placements could be added to all the bios .. even if the GP qualification process has not been decided.

Whether the bios are updated or not, it doesn't matter. The information important to ISU competitions is taken from the World Standings chart, which tallies WS points earned and yields a ranking.

Maybe you are confusing GP placement points and WS points. For example, the winner of a GP gets 15 points toward GPF qualification. But at the same time, the winner of a GP gets 400 WS points toward their World Standing. All TEB participants have had their corresponding WS points entered into the World Standings chart. WS points wouldn't have been disbursed if the results at TEB weren't final.

We may not have an updated GPF standings chart yet, but we know who came in 1st (winner), 2nd, 3rd, etc. at TEB from the WS points added to the skaters' tallies in the World Ranking chart.

This is a helpful link that explains how the Grand Prix Series works: Qualifying for the GPF

Exactly ... the GP placement points are distinct from the WS points. So, it is very possible that the posting of the WS points by the ISU was only out of necessity (so that the order of skating at CoR would reflect the most up-to-date WS ranking as per established ISU rules). The last thing the ISU needed was to have the TEB issue "spill-over" and affect skaters at the CoR unnecessarily!

The fact that the ISU ONLY published WS points (and NOT GP placement points) could suggest that a final decision on how to award the GP placement points has not yet been determined...

... Maybe you are confusing GP placement points and WS points. ...

Nope -- I was not and am not confusing GP placement points and ISU WS points. Absolutely not.

As we all know, the GP placement points are here: http://www.isu.org/en/single-and-pair-skating-and-ice-dance/series/isu-grand-prix-of-figure-skating

And the ISU WS points are here: http://www.isu.org/en/single-and-pa...tatistics-and-world-standings/world-standings

All bets are off, until the ISU makes a clear announcement. IMO. YMMV.

I agree the bios are of secondary importance. The updated standings is a clear indication of a 'SP results as final results' scenario. I guess the ISU delaying the statement because of uncertainty with how many extras will be included in GPF.
Meanwhile V/T announced their withdrawal from NHK due to injury. One headache less for ISU

If this is true, I have one stupid question, how they are going to do warm up with 7 skaters ? :whack:

It is just occurred to me that if Julia was in 5th instead of the 6th place at SA, then she & Liza would have had same number of points

So that means Gracie gets the one TEB spot?

My understanding is that Gracie gets a place at GPF on the basis of her silver at SA and gold at TEB. The extra spot to be decided between those who after the TEB results accepted as final are out of GPF, ie Liza?

Or does it mean Gracie gets a spot because TEB result is taken from the SP...
...and then another lady gets the +1(TEB) spot?

We need a proper announcement, with explanation of how it will work...

They say TEB counted on SP results. GPF will have 7 entries in each segment: 6+1(TEB)

Thx for the link, Marin :).

Like others, I look forward to an official ISU announcement that will confirm what the unnamed source has said and that will give details.

What we do know is that a Russian press report (based on Kogan) had said that a decision from the ISU by the end of Wednesday was necessary -- but the report proved to be unreliable.
(Or if the decision were made by the end of Wednesday, the ISU has chosen not to announce it yet.)

So remains to be see whether what the unnamed source says is anything definitive.

And if the report is true, it does not shed light on whether Gracie would get the seventh TEB-only spot or one of the six.

That makes more sense since Gracie would have earned a final spot anyway with results of SP. It will be interesting to see how they determine the wildcard spot.

My bets are on Liza and Chan for 7th picks for GP Final based on past results...... AND. politics!
