Advertising on competition clothes

I suppose that we should be thankful that figure skating is still sufficiently in the public eye that advertisers think it is worthwhile to pursue this kind of branding.
Actually, have we heard that they are? or is the ISU throwing the idea out there to test the waters on this?

They aren't as far as I know. Nothing else has come out from the initial rule change from the 2024 Congress (manufacturer mark allowed on the costume and they used Vera Wang as an example), but it isn't as fun to imagine as Red Bull logos on costumes.

Well, if it turns out to just be the displaying of a small logo to show who made the costumes, that's nothing to be concerned about. Let's face it, with the bespoke costumes that we have in this sport, the people behind them deserve to get the recognition for their work.

On the other hand, I can imagine problems arising if somebody decides to get their costume from Italian company A-Style...

(You can look up the logo yourself. I'm not posting it here! :drama:  )

You don't see actresses wearing the dress designer logo on their gowns. I don't think skaters should be any different.
Or ballerinas who favour a particular costume maker or pointe shoe brand. Many dancers insist on having their shoes hand-made by a particular person who works for their preferred company, often in another country, who sews their pointe shoes from a pattern sent to them. There's an old joke passed around in the ballet world about the American dancer (I can't remember who it was), about to travel to England to appear as a guest star with a company there. She gushed to a reporter, "I hope while I'm in London to meet my maker!"

[Edit: Just thought to check my own ballet slippers and of course they do say Grishko on the soles. But I doubt if anyone in an audience would see that, even if I did ever perform instead of just taking class as I do. 🩰So no advertising benefit.]
