Alena Kostornaia

I'm also a bit worried with this new rule because Norway have asked to raise the minimum age to compete in the Senior category. They believe it is a means of protecting children against abuse and overtraining and I believe it cannot, while it may block the most promising Junior skaters to get those endorsements which in my opinion may give them a bit of independence and better circumstances in general.
Russia is opposed to this raise of age limit but if they themselves raise the minimum age to compete among Seniors, it can be used as an argument against their refusal of the Norwegian proposal.
100%. How stupid is the fed to raise the age where SA will not compete at senior nationals until she's 15 and a 1/2 years old? Adelina won senior nationals when she was 12 freaking years old and that wasn't 50 years ago.

I have no idea why Norway has any pull in any of this.

As for abuse there is no real abuse with Russian figure skating unless it's hard ass coaches being tough on kids. Meanwhile in America my country there are a lot of instances of sexual harassment and assault in American figure skating with coaches and pairs men. It's really very ugly.

Interesting discussion but why is in Aliona’s FF? I came here looking for news about Aliona and find this:scratch2::shrug::coffee:
Yes, that's why I put my answer in an OT spoiler. I don't know if it has been discussed elsewhere because I rarely go outside fan fests. Maybe in Russian Ladies/Women thread?
Raising age limit would have affected Alyona all the most though, because she was born in August, was nearly a year older than other 3As, and had already quite a mature skating.

No worries.. just making an observation😀. There is a thread in The Edge devoted to this topic I think. Aliona is probably closer to Liza in this respect.. it remains to be seen if she will continue along the same path going forward tho I hope for my sake as a fan she does. Would like to see Russia support their long term women skaters more but who am I, right? Depends on whether the Fed will support her ..

I am as much in the dark as everyone else .. cannot wait to see her skate again
Only 15 days left! Women's Short start on Western Christmas Eve, Friday 24th, 18:20 Russian time, there's a timezone converter:
It's in the schedule link.

This is the last post I’ll make on this, since it is a FF, but Norway simply submitted a proposal. Every year the ISU Congress meets and discusses issues and proposals submitted by different countries. So everyone at the Congress (next June) will vote. Norway was simply the country that proposed this, but it could have just as easily been proposed by another country.

Let’s get back on topic now.

I also think it depends whether or not Eteri still wants to keep her... If they kick her out, I can't see another coach in Russia taking her instead given her reputation as being difficult and lazy (thanks Daniil :palmf: ), and I don't think she and her family have the resources for her to train abroad.

But a lot will depend on what Aliona wants to do. It seems like she's quite serious about going to medical school, but if she finishes her other degree at the sports university (?) first, then presumably she could skate competitively for a few more seasons. As a fan, I do hope that's what she will do! (y)

For those looking for some news on our dear Aliona, here is an interview with another Alena -- Alena Kuklychyova, the designer who made her red Harley Quinn dress!! She talks about how she ended up working with Aliona and how she designed the dress and the potential for future cooperation...

Of course my favorite journalist (and secret Kosto-fan?) Anastasia Panina conducted the interview. (y)

This part made me laugh (via GoogleTranslate):
She is so creative, she has good taste, as I understand it. I tell her: “The princess dress turns out well enough, have you seen the movie? Harley goes around there killing people actually ( laughs ). It is necessary to bring something into it to make it hooligan. Let's tear it up harder, add some dirt. " Aliona says: "Yes, yes !!!"
Yup, definitely need to make it more "hooligan" for our girl.

And this was VERY interesting:
- So what about further cooperation?

- Now there is a request to change the dress for the [free] program, if we have time. She threw Billie Eilish's music and the video to me, I drew sketches, Alena chose and was going to show Eteri Georgievna. Until I started working on it, because there was no go-ahead. On December 20, they seem to have to fly to the Russian championship, so the dress should be ready by this moment. I don’t think of anything, if you see something new at a competition, it means they have sewn it ( laughs ).

So it sounds like Aliona may have a new dress for her "Lovely" FS -- if they manage to finish it in time!!

I have to say, though, that earlier in the week Kuklychyova had posted that she was going to make a new dress for Aliona for Russian Nationals, and then after that, when she posted photos of a dress for a tango program, I momentarily freaked out -- Could it be?! A new tango FS choreographed by Eteri for Aliona??!! Could my dreams be coming true??!! :eek2: But then I realized there's no way they would've let her show the dress before Russian Nationals... And this interview confirms that she's just making a new costume for "Lovely."
Oh well, a girl can dream...

Thank you for your insight.. I see your point
But I hope everything works out well for her now🦋

That's really great!
Obviously she has taste and a great sense of the rendering of costumes and make-ups on ice.
Now I really wonder how this new costume will look, does Alena Kuklychova have a vk page or the like, or do you know costumes she's made for other skaters?

Well, if she isn't able to finish the costume by the 20th (when they leave for Nat'ls), then Aliona might not have a new dress, so fingers crossed that she gets it done in time!

Kuklychyova has a VK page, but it looks like it's mostly personal stuff, not her costumes:

Her Instagram has the photos/videos of her costumes:

Here are her posts on Aliona's Harley Quinn dress:

Kuklychyova also did Sasha's green dress for her R&J program last year (there's a picture of it at the end of the article).

One more Aliona tidbit...
Dasha Pavlyuchenko was interviewed earlier this week, and of course she had nice things to say about her bestie:

GoogleTranslate:
And if we talk about girls, then Alena Kostornaya is always in my heart (smiles). In principle, I think that Alena skates very well: she has great jumps, great sliding and very good presentation in the programs.

I just love their friendship! 🥰

I was very glad that Dasha was there at Skate Canada, and I was looking forward to them both being at the GPF... 😢

Random observation: It does seem like Aliona gets along especially well with girls named Dasha -- first her bestie (Pavlyuchenko), then Panenkova, and also Usacheva...

Thank you so much!
So she's mostly doing Rhythmic Gymnastic costumes, they're beautiful!
I like too, the red dress with the spider on the shoulder. :sneaky:

It's old but I hadn't seen it in the Fan Fests: a transcription and translation of part of the Urgant show last week with three video extracts.
https://theskatingtimes.com/2021/12...ussian-late-night-talk-show-vecherniy-urgant/
you probably just didn’t see it - I posted my translation of this show on another thread a few days ago. Here is the link:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/team-eteri-tutberidze.67569/page-41#post-2862791

My version is more complete, and maybe it will also be interest to you.

Thank you so much! It is indeed more complete and what a work you are doing! I had searched on the four girls' fan fests but I hadn't been on Team Tutberidze's for a while, I should have.
So, did Alyona whisper 110 or 120 about Kamila's speed in kart? :jaw:
