Alena Kostornaia

The talk about Aliona's back injury came up in an interview Yana gave recently. There's an English translation here:

But I remember reading about this while Aliona was still at AoP -- I think when she first arrived Plushenko said she had some kind of injury that they needed to treat, but they did not specify what it was at the time...

I also have noticed that Aliona's back seems stiffer than before -- or that she's being very careful with her back. When she attempts an Ina Bauer, she doesn't lean back as much as before, and her donut spin/twisted donut (? like a Biellmann) looks labored compared to before. But if that helps her avoid chronic pain/permanent injury, then I'm all for her prioritizing her long-term health! (y)

As for Aliona choosing to leave Team Tut voluntarily -- I highly doubt she'd do it. I think she'd choose to retire rather than choose to leave Team Tut. I think Aliona learned her lesson when she left for AoP. I doubt she'd get the same level of PCS if she moved to a lesser-known team, and I think Aliona realized that she needs a very strict coach. Also, we all know that Aliona is super outgoing and social, and I think she really missed having a "girl gang" to train with. She won't have that elsewhere. And while I am highly skeptical about what kind of programs Daniil might choreograph for her, I do think that Eteri has made some absolutely brilliant programs for her (like Angel and Adios Nonino), and I am hopeful that Eteri could be inspired to create another masterpiece for her.

Watching Deniss Vasiljevs this season did make me wonder how Aliona would do in Stephane's group, but even if she could afford to do it, I think she would miss her family and friends in Moscow too much, and I'm not sure Stephane is enough of a disciplinarian to handle our very charming, but very emotional and willful, rebel. ;)

Separately, I wonder if Aliona still is interested in doing pairs, or if she has given that up completely... 🤔
I have to say, I really really enjoyed watching Roman Sadovsky perform at Skate Canada, and I think he and Aliona are both very expressive performers with excellent basics, so now I have this wild idea that they should do pairs together... It will never happen but I can dream! :devilish:
Do you mean, Alyona has spoken of doing Pairs at some time? Yes Roman or Junwhan would be great if they become a bit more bulky somehow? Now I imagine the wonderful spins etc. Maybe she thought about the strong sensations of a Pairs skater during lifts, twists etc. It must be great for skaters who love it.

Do you really think other Eteri girls are docile? She's maybe the most outspoken but I rather get vibes of strong characters and personalities, each in their way. I even believe it's part of the package expected from an Eteri skater.

She did have a symptomatic CoViD (in this interview Yana Rudkovskaia mentioned another infection later, if I understand well, I don't know what sort of infection and if it's true or if she's confusing things) and was out of ice quite a long time, and it took her time to get her lung capacity back it seems. She still has a somehow reduced stamina, I don't know if it's related to these infections or to her daily schedule.
Yana talked about acute tonsillitis, which was the result of covid. It's still not as dangerous as pneumonia - I can say this as a person who has experienced both types of diseases. When about a year ago 80% of my lungs were not working, I had already, frankly, come to terms with what seemed inevitable. Acute tonsillitis is very unpleasant, but there are no such extreme feelings. The recovery time depends on how long the treatment lasted.

quite right, and I also talked about this interview. As you yourself can see, Yana, explaining Kostornaya's failures last season, mentions not only back pains, but also how Sasha Trusova did not give Plushenko the opportunity to work with Alena. If we add to this information from an interview with Rozanov, according to which it was Sasha who persuaded him to part with Tutberidze and go to Plushenko, then it turns out that a sixteen-year-old girl twisted adults men like toys (and one of these men is the greatest skater in history). Once Mishin was called "Professor Moriarty", and now, probably, Milady de Winter has also appeared in Russian figure skating - in the person of Trusova :).

I, of course, do not accuse Rudkovskaya of trying to mislead people. Her words are probably based on some facts. But it is still better to be wary of what is said with emotion.

I think most people if not all, tend to rearrange the past involuntarily in their minds. Some do it more than others.
I really like your reconstruction, I'm sure Sasha would have a good laugh and elect Musketeers for her next program, with the part of Milady of course. Maybe it does turn out that she did this but I doubt it was with a Machiavellian mind. 😹

Very sad news.
https://www.sports.ru/figure-skatin...naya-propustit-chempionat-rossii-iz-za-t.html

European champion Alena Kostornaya will miss the Russian Figure Skating Championship due to an injury.
This is reported by the press service of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia (FFKR).
Championship of Russia-2022 will be held in St. Petersburg on December 23-26. At the end of the tournament will be formed team for the European Championship-2022 and the Olympic Games in Beijing.

I found no other information as to her injury. I hope it will heal soon but I'm very much afraid she has no more chance to be selected for Olys team or even defend her European title. 😭

Shock. Some kind of fatal bad luck. And we were just discussing her back. But it is not yet known what kind of injury. I can't even imagine how hurt she must be

I should like to express support but I don't know how to do at all.
There are two main fan groups, very active, I suppose they will. KostornaiaTeam have already sent a message.

Friends, let's write words of support and wishes in the comments🙏🏼"

Poor Alionka! This is so unfortunate, this injury came at such wrong time! :(
I’m devastated for her.
I hope she keeps her spirits high and comes back even stronger.

She broke her right wrist. The recovery is estimated at 6-8 weeks. Her fan group also claims Aliona is staying for another 4 year Olympic cycle.

I am still processing these news and thus have several things to say but I‘ll try to make it as neutral as possible.

Good luck and a speedy recovery to Aliona, of course! She doesn‘t deserve any of the rotten luck she‘s had over the last years and I just hope she doesn’t give up and can continue to show her wonderful skating on the competitive stage. She‘s a fighter and I hope no one will ever have the audacity again to call her "lazy" (not fans, not the media, but most importantly not her own coaches) when she’s literally battled so many health struggles over the past two seasons and still continued to give it her best.

Get well soon!!

so happy to hear she is with us for another 4 years. honestly i don't care if we never see another 3A from her, i just want joyful, happy skates from her.

i wonder how she broke her wrist?
I do think we'll see them back. This injury is so untimely but at least it's a one-off, not the sort of chronic weakness prone to re-break which many skaters have, and I don't think it will affect her future skating. Her 3A is sooo beautiful! I wish her a fast but above all complete healing. 💗
It's likely a training accident but it can also be during a commute or anything else.

I don't know what to say. I'm just sorry she's injured and what I 1st heard about it in the last half hour I was hoping it was just like a slight fracture in her hand. Then I see the picture of Aliona with a full cast on. What a brutal last 12 or 13 months it's been since she got coronavirus. It's just hard to imagine and for this to happen in Olympic air and then for her to get so sick the season before the Olympic season is it's so damn disappointing.

Let' that fracture fully heal.

to follow Lisa's path is not an easy choice. But, on the other hand, if there were no injury, Alena would probably still have to do so, because she had few chances to get to the Olympics. Of course, this is tragic anyway.

I didn't watch the competition the year she was at the top. I watched some of her performances from that period relatively recently, this summer. And even then I thought that it was very difficult for her to start all over again after such a brilliant success. And now this blow of fate...
