Alena Kostornaia

Perhaps I made some inaccuracies, because there is hardly anything more unfamiliar to me than makeup. And by the way - the Dasha mentioned in the video is, of course, Usacheva.

I will translate the second half of the video a little later.
At first I believed there was an inaccuracy (scrub instead of balm) but indeed it was scrub. I didn't even know the existence of these sugar lip scrubs you just swipe after a while, and they also moisturise and plump up the lips before make up. I'm far from being an expert but I didn't spot anything looking wrong, that's really impressive. I'm really grateful.

That is, it was not an ordinary fracture, there is a complication.
I get the impression it's the initial fracture that's a complex one, rather than her not healing as expected. I'm rather relieved because I feared a post-surgery infection for instance.

Confession for a fan fest:
I watched junior and really liked Akatayeva, but in the end it was just a reminder of how much i missed Aliona lately.
Same here. I like the juniors a lot but senior skating especially has lost most of its joy for me now that Aliona doesn't compete. It was the same last season after the Russian Cup Final. I really hope she doesn't give up and manages to come back soon. She's too special a skater for her career to end like this and I think she has much more to give to the sport.

I had second thoughts after last video. Has she said she had a hamster or a rabbit? Or is the cage empty?
Was the "toy" a real slipper?
Did she display the blooms in the bonsai herself? With or without Oa..s foam to keep them watered?
Is this my business at all?
I reviewed the video. Before that, I listened rather than watched, so I didn’t pay attention to the cage at all. Now I can say that there is a black rabbit there. Starting at 1:53 you can see how he goes into the visible part of the cage. But Alena did not say a single word about the rabbit.

"Toy" is really a slipper, and I noticed that she took it off her foot, raised it to the level of the table, and then threw it away.

I can’t say anything about flowers - it’s just all the time in the frame.

The rabbit was a present from Kostornaia Team at the beginning of the 2019-20 season :)

Thanks again to @Alex Fedorov for the detailed translation of Aliona's latest video!!
I can't wait to see Aliona back on the ice!

Audrey is just like her owner -- she likes to be the center of attention, she is a bit mischievous and naughty, and she is extremely cute.

Caption this! 😉
(My take: "For God's sake! I should be on the team!")

My take: "Cosmetic companies don't want to sponsor me? Oh well, their loss!"

100% agree about the seniors.
After watching so many promising junior girls fail to have the same success on the senior level or even make it to seniors (the Alisa's, the Anastasia's, Alena Kanysheva 😭), I stopped watching the junior ladies. I'll just wait to see who survives...

In fact I felt the same way 4 years ago, but everyone kept raving so much about this Kostornaia girl who came in 3rd at 2018 Russian Nationals that I just had to check her out...

Given Daniil's criticism that Aliona is "lazy" and Eteri's comment that Aliona wants to try everything (instead of training for the Olympics), I thought Svetlana Sokolovskaya had some interesting thoughts about Mark:

GoogleTranslate (with my underlining added):
Is that his strongest trait?

“I think he has a lot of strengths in general. He is inquisitive. He's lazy.

You just called a plus now?

- Certainly. In a good sense of the word, a lazy person is generally a big plus. I'm coming to this with experience.

Why is this a plus?

The human body knows better when to strain and when to let go. But he certainly doesn't lie like a log all day, by no means. He studies, reads, everything is interesting to him. He has a special laziness, specific. He knows when to stop himself. This helps him a lot.

He is also very open ... as it seems to everyone. But in fact, Mark is on his own mind ( laughs ). He is a very versatile person. And I am very happy that I have such guys.
She definitely has a completely different attitude from Team T., it seems!

I also thought these quotes from her interview were very interesting:
- Do you think Mark has the opportunity to become a great skater? Truly great.

- Great ... Great - it's completely different for me. Great is a doctor who saves lives. An inventor, a rocket scientist… Someone big, not an athlete. I do not want to offend anyone, but personally I think so. Mark has the potential and desire to develop.

....

- An athlete can't be great?

- Well, I don’t combine the words “athlete” and “great”. Bright, memorable, even brilliant, maybe - yes. But this is completely different. I don’t know, but “great” is a word from a completely different area for me. I don't want to offend anyone in any way! I just have it like this.

I still don't think that another coach in Russia will take Aliona if Team T. kicks her out, and I think Aliona's scores would fall further if she left, and I still think she would miss her "girl gang" too much to choose to leave...

BUT, it is still fun to speculate. If Mark performs very well at the Olympics and takes over as the leading Russian man, I wonder if CSKA's status would rise again. (I remember a time when CSKA skaters were the ones getting ridiculously overscored at Nationals... )
We never got to see the program that Peter Tchernyshev choreographed for Lena Radionova, but I would be very curious to see what he could come up with for Aliona... Oh, and of course I am still hoping that one day Lena will choreograph a bonkers & amazing EX program for Aliona.

But again, this is all just idle speculation/fantasizing from me...

Let's not forget that Eteri commented that it would be possible to train with a hand in cast and with such an injury. But despite all comments it's not "fun" for me to speculate. If she leaves Eteri, her carrier is over, period.

Wow, Sokolovskaya's description of Mark sounds a lot like Aliona. It's so interesting that she frames the same traits in a positive light compared to Team Tut. It makes me sad that Aliona could have this sort of encouragement but I think you're right in that she wouldn't want to leave her girl gang again.

Please let’s not write her off just yet! All us young (and not so young) ladies leave our girl gangs behind at some point - not totally obviously - they will all remain close but the teenage closeness is eventually outgrown.. Aliona has such wide audience appeal and exquisite skills it would be criminal and downright dumb not to capitalize on it in some way. She will decide what will work for her when the time is right .. if Eteri is part of that future.. fine. If not.. so what? I am certain we will see her again. As for Russian ladies competitive skating, these youngsters have been training for years, since they were tiny; at some point the body just stops and says “no more.. I am done”. It is only natural though I truly hope we will see Aliona in competition again and soon!

I found this rabbit on an old video (May 22, 2020):

starting at 39:37

a summary of the video is set out here (can be more or less translate by an automatic translator):

Thank you! I hadn't watched the whole video back then because it was so exhausting. The only athlete's confinement routine I could do was Dick Button's. :dbana:
I had the impression that she was taking her slipper from her foot but I wasn't sure because there are also pet toys in the shape of slippers.
This explains why Audrey is so enthusiastic with it.

Let's not forget that Eteri commented that it would be possible to train with a hand in cast and with such an injury. But despite all comments it's not "fun" for me to speculate. If she leaves Eteri, her carrier is over, period.
i think Aliona knows at this point what is best for her skating. she learned her lesson last season, and i completely agree that if for some crazy reason she leaves Eteri again, her career is over. not to mention it would be the final nail in the coffin with Eteri- there would be no going back.

Let's not forget that this time she choosed Eteri and all that goes with it with an informed decision.
When she joined first time is was the big oppotunity to join the winner team and expertiment how it worked for her.
She decided to leave (everyone has is on opinion on the real reason) but comparing the two experiences she finally decided Sambo was the place to be.

I forgot to mention a funny fact: Alena's birthday is August 24, and the birthday of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, by whose decree the village of Kastornoye was founded, is August 25. Perhaps this is Alena's closest approach to royalty:)
In France August 25th is St Louis, I'd say another sort of sovereign and it used to be a holiday. August 24th St Bartholomew, Apostle.
Also in France we often say that we all have at least a king and a hanged convict among our ancestors.
It must not be so very different in Russia?

Yes, I remember now that this day was also celebrated in the church of St. Louis in Moscow - by pure chance I saw this six years ago. An interesting coincidence. Perhaps these are some magical days at the end of August:).

And of course you are right - the origin of any person can be completely unexpected.
