Well, it would make sense to me to have him make his first quad attempt at a small domestic competition - little pressure, and also little attention paid to it. I mean, clearly the world at large won't know much about this - hopefully we'll find out a little more, though.
And if, again, this was a quad attempt, I hope they'll find another opportunity for him to try it. Debuting it at Russian Nationals wouldn't have been the best idea anyway, methinks.
Still, even in a worst case scenario - when he gets stable, and adds the quad, and remains stable with the quad - then he will be very competitve. I don't see anything holding him back then. And I'd rather not that his development is rushed, and he ends up being incosistent, and hit and miss like so many others. He's 16, and that gives him time. As I said, any setback will only be temporary.
