This once again makes me realize that organising figure skating events based on nationality is so stupid. Imagine what great pairs we could have if the skaters didn't have to be from the same country and fed. Also, no weird marriages at a really young age.

I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think that’d work for the Olympics, since the whole point is to represent your country.

Plus the Olympics are the only reason you need citizenship anyway - you don’t need it for regular ISU events.

Like tennis doubles in the Olympics, where both players need to represent the same country, but can be any mix of nationalities in other tournaments.

Probably Nikita Volodin, who needs German citizenship for the Olympics.

The structure of the iSU (even apart from the Olympics) already discourages mixed nationality teams. Even setting aside formal citizenship, a pair must "skate for" and be sponsored by a national federation that has membership in the ISU.

Some federations welcome foreign nationals, others not so much.
