American Idol - Top 24

I thought Sanjaya did a great job (well, for Sanjaya) last night, and was the only one to try singing in Spanish for Latin night.
I thought J-Lo was going to be the worst mentor ever, but I liked her a lot.and while I can't understand the judges' pimping of Blake (the beat-boxing and Michael Jackson dance moves are so dated...c'mon, people...), IRave
Rave, I thought Sanjaya did very well. I couldn't agree with you more about Blake. What was with the white hat?? He just makes me want to slit both of my wrists when he sings. His singing for me is like someone running their fingernails down a blackboard........screeeeeeeeeeeeech!! Actually when he sings now I push the mute button. screeeeeeeeeeech!!!

Yes, Blake was by far the best Tues night. He reminds me so much of a 21st cen Morrisey. I'm actually surprised how well he can sing...even without the beat boxing.. Haley, was a MESS! She needed to go like Antonella..No need to keep her for her sex appeal only.. Chris, sounds the same every week no matter what he sings...He's getting irrotating! Phil, is only still there due to his good guy/dad stature... I LOVE Melinda, but she is starting to play it too safe.. Lakesha, picked a song that didn't suit her style....and well....Sanjimima...he never should of made the top 24...so he's not worth commenting on... Jordin, with her young pretty voice.... just might win this thing, but I didn't care for her this week....She needs to stick to slow, pretty Disney ballads..LOL

The hat was just silly, but I've noticed a lot of young men wearing old man hats lately. I wish they'd stop!
Blake's voice doesn't bother me nearly as much as Timberfake's does, and technically, I've noticed some improvement recently. What bugs me about Blake is exactly what J-Lo called him on the other night - the need to make an emotional connection with what he's singing. "Otherwise you come off as vacant..." J-Lo the wise! Who'da thunk it?
You know, I'm thinking this whole season (maybe even AI in general) is the ultimate triumph of style over substance. But it sure is fun.

I used to hate Sanjaya but he has won me over with his last two performances! I don't like Blake for some reason however have to admit that he has been singing very well. Love Jordin! Melinda can sing anything and make it sound good, Lakisha is awesome but needs to rock the house again like she did at first; Chris R. should have been the one to go as I liked Hayley; Phil is ok but too hard to look at.

bottom 3, for me
Sanjaya, Phil, Lakisha

Lakisha did not choose the right song... her lisp just totally blurred her words together... and it really sounded flat...

Blake was surprisingly good... I liked the song when tim sang it... but I loved Blake's tone in it...

Chris was the best he's been all season but still too nasal

Melinda had fun and rocked it out.

Sanjaya was a mess... wish he'd take all the weeks seriously like he did for Latin.

Jordin was okay, but was pitchy...

Phil was... phil

I am so surprised, btw, that no one sang Ain't Goin Down Till The Sun Comes Up, or Amazed... those are staples for Country week! LOL

who am I missing - oh wait... top 7... nevermind lol

Bottom 4 for me: 1. Blake, 2. Sanjaya, 3. Phil, 4. Chris

Loved, loved Lakisha's song. It came across my TV well. I thought she did the song with conviction and feeling. Loved it, loved it.

Loved it when Simon called out Melinda on the "Surprise Look."

I'm not a big fan of Jordin but if she wins, I'm ok with it.

BTW, Sanjaya was just awful!!

I thought I would give Blake one more try this week and I don't know what the judges heard but he slaughtered that song. I thought it was just terrible!!

Dee

BTW, Sanjaya was just awful!!

 Wow. Not surprised to hear it, just from you???? I was starting to wonder if you were under his spell.

J/K

I like Melinda for this.... but not following as much as others. But I really do like her. Think she could work more on the mic control only a touch, and compared to others she is golden, but occasionally the volume balance.... ya know.;)

I thought country week was pretty good for everyone, except Senjaya and Chris.

I didn't understand the dislike for Lakisha...I thought she did well.

And I think I'm one of few that likes Phil, I think country week was his best.

My top 4: Melinda, Jordin, Phil, Blake

In the middle: Lakisha

Bottom two: Chris and Senjaya

The only rendition of Stars Go Blue I've ever heard is by The Corrs, both with and without Bono. I absolutely LOVE their version with Bono, I had to search down the CD and buy it when I totally by accident saw the video on MTV about 4-5 years ago.

Lakisha's lisp is what drives me nuts...

that and she picked an Idol's song... they're not going to say 'dude, dawg, that was better than Carrie's version (and it wasn't anyway)"

Jordan has won me over

Jordan has grown more than any of the other singers--she really takes the advice and seems to add to it. The Bandana Boy--what can I say, I think he is trying to sing badly, no one could sing as poorly as he did this week unless they planned it. But, nothing would surprise me with the voting. Maybe they should start charging a dollar to vote and have the money go to charity and then all the tweens would stop....

I am shocked over the bottom 3 and I think at least 2 of them were to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dee

LOVED Melinda's sitting in teh middle. Good for her (didn't someone do that last season too?)

Yay for Sanjaya finally going home! Now the competition can really begin...

Blake has no business being in the bottom three... Lakisha, well based on past performances no, but I don't think she's *that great* either...

Blake and Melinda for top two!!

I think a lot of people are shouting one word over the results:

FINALLY!!!!!! yahoo.gif

I agree that Blake had no business in bottom 3, shoulda been Senjaya, Chris, Lakisha.

I agree with what Simon said to Melinda about = Not Looking Shocked = about his comment on her performance = I'm getting tired of her looking that way too = she sang as a back up singer so she knows she is good = Jordan is growing on me = wouldn't mind seeing her in the top 2 spots

Poor Sanjaya, he cried. I felt so sorry for him.

I was hoping and praying that it was Blake that was going home last night. Darn!!

Did anyone else think the Ford commercial was great?

Sanjaya, we hardly knew ye.
The rest of the season should be deadly dull with no unpredictability whatsoever, but Simon's happy so I guess that's what counts. :rolleye: Don't mind me, I was just so disgusted watching Cowell lick his chops at the prospect of Sanjaya's departure that I'm feeling pretty sour about the whole thing today. Open note to Cowell: you don't want Sanjayas in your competition, don't put them in the top 24 for us ignorant plebes to vote for. Duh.
I thought Chris, rather than Blake, should have been in the bottom 3...in fact, they should have sent him home solely for saying "Nasal is a form of singing, I bet you didn't know that". Get this twit off my TV, PLEASE!
And did anyone else notice that, during the Shrek 3 segment, every time someone said "Shrek" the camera went to Melinda? Real subtle, guys.
Next week, Inspirational songs. Can't wait...not.

Blake and Melinda for top two!!

Toni, I thought of that too! In Season 4, Ryan divided the contestants into 2 groups and asked Bo Bice to stand with the ones he thought were safe. Bo, very politely and firmly, said "No". Last Year, Taylor was asked to do the same thing, went over and shook Chris Dautry's hand, and went with the other group, which was actually the safe one.

I really prefer the responses from Bo and Melinda, it's not fair for Ryan to ask them to choose, these are all their friends and the people they have grown to care a lot for!
