Andrew Torgashev

Happy Birthday to Andrew! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Thanks for the retrospective @skatingfan4ever , so elegant and polished even as a baby Andrew.

May his beloved Florida Panthers continue their march to the Stanley Cup! (I follow hockey so little these days, if it weren't for Andrew's IG stories on the Panthers, I would have no idea who is winning. )

Misha Ge and Andrew have posted on their IG stories a small snippet of a new SP:

"Void of Madness", Muse.

Gotta say, sounds a tad too emo to my old ears, but Andrew could skate to the telephone book and I would love it, so let's see the whole thing!

Andrew is the guest on yet another episode of Polina Edmunds podcast. He is definitely the "go to" guest.

He talks about the past season, his amazing Nats performances, his new programs, and living on his own in California. Some highlights:

1. The funniest part of the podcast for me: developing this year's LP with Misha Ge. Misha was trying to find music that Andrew could emotionally connect with, and Andrew said "I want an emotional connection to landing my jumps"

Andrew had the interesting (I had not heard before) viewpoint that music "you hate" can be good for forcing you to pay attention to technical aspects. Misha refused to accommodate that feeling. He told Andrew that he (Andrew) was an artist and Misha would work with him to highlight his artistry.
Thank you, Misha:clap:

2. He was shaking before the short program at Sectionals, even though if you had told him in the years before, when he had international competitions and byes, that he would be attending Sectionals, he would have been "almost offended".

3. We know about Nats. ;) Andrew had no expectations about making the Worlds team. If he was on the selection committee and saw his early skates before Nats, he might not have selected himself for the team.

4. About leaving for California from Colorado: he told everyone he was leaving for a two week look around, and never returned.

He stayed with Sean Rabbitt until he was able to find his own place. What a combo:love2:

There is much more, as it is over an hour. Andrew does most of the talking. Worth a listen. :)

Andrew has SP music listed on his ISU bio.

L'enfer by someone/some group (?) Stromae.

I don't like to listen to music I don't know before seeing a skater move at least in part to it, so I have not listened to it. I did read the lyrics (in French). Dark, like really dark, like I've thought of suicide dark. (that is one of the refrains).

If anyone can interpret any music, Andrew can, but my man is testing me!๐Ÿ”ฅ

Andrew is in second place after the SP at the Lombardia Trophy, with a score of 86.41:clap::hap10:๐ŸŽ‰

Please let there be a video out there in the Internet world:pray:

Hope it doesn't get taken down! I really like the music. It could be really great later on this season.
Thank you @trishelle and welcome to the Fan Fest! I am taking the liberty of embedding the video because some folks cannot access YouTube.

I wasn't sure about the music when he first announced it, the lyrics are really dark. (I don't know the artist and I didn't know the tune). They're a little less dark when set to music, and of course the classic Andrew arm movements and kicks and passion just complement it so well.

And he was clean. So much to love. :love2:

Glad to be here. And I'm so glad Torgs has a thread! Didn't really know who he was until Nationals this year, and now I'm a huge fan!

His FS at Nats last year was just wonderful, I'm so glad to see him come into his own.

He's had up and down years since winning junior Nats nine years ago :eek2:, but when he is on he is sooo compelling. Here's hoping he stays "on" for the free.

This was an excellent program for Andrew. He had so much control and yet skated beautifully to the music.,,,...which I actually liked. I always love it when there is something different out there.

Andrew won bronze at Lombardia! Doubled the 4S and fell on his 2nd 3A. 4th in the Free behind Cam.

From Jackie Wong:

Andrew Torgashev USA
3Lo, 3A2T, 2S, 3A(fall), 3F3T, 3F1Eu3S, 3Lz
TES 72.59, PCS 75.26, -1.00, TOTAL 233.26
#LombardiaTrophy2023

ETA I hope that he plans to put a 4T instead of the opening 3L later on.

Andrew has opened his skates with a quad as the first or second jump for years (as in five, six?) now, so I am sure he plans to do that. Not to say he always landed it, but it was in there. ;) Shame that he fell on the 3A. Have not even looked for vids yet, but it is Andrew, I am sure he fought for his steps and choreo!

According to a GoldenSkate tweet yesterday, he had a stress fracture in his back and did not practice for two months:eek2:

Congratulations on the bronze:clap:
