Artistic Gymnastics (MAG/WAG) Live Chat

for @4everchan Canadian UB survival tracker:

Ava Stewart: survives with a 13.5! You might want to come back, Canada could sneak out a medal here!

Ellie Black: some struggles on handstands, misses an Ezhova, a bit wonky but stays on! Uh-oh, scores taking a while, but Italy has some struggles on floor. It's a 12.800, not great but not a disaster. China ahead by only .3, but they're on vault. Inquiry submitted for Ellie, this could be crucial. GB goes 2/2 on beam. Brazil has snuck ahead with vault, it's not looking good for Canada but honestly I''ll be happy with whoever medals

13.5 for Aurelie Tran - behind Brazil but moves narrowly ahead of China. It'll be between Italy and GB for medals, and if both of them have falls, Canada has an outside shot. Brazil will be off the podium if Italy scores a 12.836 and Great Britain 13.834.

Italy is going crazy for Angela Andreoli, who has multiple sticks. Might they pull off a silver medal here?

carrots are cooked for rugby but Canadian fought well.... i guess i am too late for gymnastics...

considering Canada finished 12th at the last worlds... I am proud of these women. Also, beating countries like China and Japan in gymnastics, is not something Canada is used to do. Bravo. Of course, congratulations to USA, Italy and Brazil for their medals. USA is in a league of their own in WAG.

Honestly I love how happy all of the teams have been, gymnastics has such good vibes right now and even when teams don't do as well as they'd hoped, like China yesterday, they are still good sports and support each other. I'm happy that GB didn't miss out on a medal because of mistakes - they did as best they could and Brazil was simply better today. Hopefully they come back stronger (and healthier) next year, finishing fourth with three of their best gymnasts missing is still incredible. It's adorable seeing the US women being so happy, even when they were the runaway favourites for gold. All in all, the team finals for both MAG and WAG were a lot of fun to watch and I can't wait to see it continue in the AA! May Ellie Black nail her UB and win AA bronze

I am sorta thinking that it's almost impossible for Ellie... Two americans, Andrade... the Italians... if she's top 6, I will be happy. I think she may have a better chance earning a vault medal but even that seems unlikely. :(
I mean... it's unlikely, but if we take her top scores from quals and TF, she would score a 56.265, which would have her in 3rd place overall based on quals scores (albeit by a narrow margin). I will keep on chugging the Impossibility Kool-Aid (but honestly again I'll be happy with whoever medals lol)

Pretty much every meet, a gymnast gets injured mid-competition, either in MAG or WAG. I've seen a lot of ACL and ligament tears, but also injured ankles or feet, broken legs, concussions... Even here, there was a Mexican gymnast who reaggravated an injury and had to be carried off the mat and Elisa Iorio for Italy suffered a sprain during QF and will be out most of the Team Final, and that's just what we know about. Gymnasts are insanely strong and incredible athletes, but they deal with so many injuries, both minor and major. They're just really good at hiding it and acting like everything is fine.
And then there's Flavia who knees herself in the face, splits her eye open and slays anyway.

So... I am dying again because my fencing crush and team are about to face their biggest rival for the gold medal, but men's AA is on...

And I need to find a stream that's showing floor, Olympics.com stream is stuck on rings and tbh they aren't in the podium race

and i am watching tennis but i hope to see some of my bonbons in the AA too ;)

Welp we've had three falls and we're not done with the first rotation, one of which was Zhang Boheng falling on his head (fortunately not in a spinal injury kind of way). MAG chaos is alive and thriving.

Also, I think we need to have a separate podium for best hair. Canada's Peeta Mellark Felix Dolci deserves a medal in that category for sure.

...and Daiki falls on pommel. The men are at least having solidarity in falling all over the place.

Shinnosuke has survived pommel. As long as he doesn't murder himself on vault he could pull off an upset here trying not to jinx him 😅
