Advanced Novice Girls SP

1 Aoki 47.52
2 Kim Y. 43.04
3 An 39.06
4 Honda 38.96

Marin missed the combo again. She could be doing things unnecessarily difficult.

tweet from @tahko119

1 Nitaya 58.55
2 Higuchi 57.05
3 Choi DB ??
4 Nakashio 50.56

looks like Kamata is the winner of Jr men SP.

Shimada was WD, PRK 1st, Miyake 2nd for Novice boys

Michael is in California (Anaheim) - he just posted a message on FB that he hadn't been training in the past months due to lack of funds, and is still waiting for funds to be released so he can train with his coaches for the Grand Prix.
It is so sad that so many good skaters here in the US and everywhere fall to the wayside due to lack of funding. Imagine this - if every slumping MLB (or any professional sports team) player with a multi year, multi million $$ contract had to forfeit a year's salary due to bad performance, just think how many skaters world wide would benefit.

Sad but true. Ever since skating fell of the public radar, this has become the reality.

Yep. But if you think Michael's got it bad - I Googled Raj Kumar Tiwari (his name caught my eye on the competitors' list as I've never heard of a skater from India before), and his story is something else.

I'd love to watch the senior men's competition if nothing else...hopefully someone will upload it if there is no stream to be found.

Thanks for the links, NMURA!

Love the power in Wakaba's jumps, especially 2A (it looks like she could jumpa 3A!) and 3Lz. I enjoyed the improved speed in her skating and nice acceleration in her layback spin. However, I'm not sure if this is the best choice of music for her - it's very frenetic and it would probably take Akiko Suzuki to match the crazy tempo.

In terms of music choice and choreo I enjoyed Yuna's program a bit more. Plus, while she didn't attempt a 3-3, her jumping technique looked very clean to me and she seemed to have good edges on both 3Lz and 3F.

ETA: I enjoyed Wakaba's program more after muting the music. The choreo itself is actually quite good - a lot of transitions for a junior program, no telegraphing, interesting layout of the elements.

Best of luck to both of the ladies in the LP!

agree on the music choice. She needs more speed and energy to make that music work but since it's her first competition of the season perhaps it'll get better later on. And I wouldn't be surprised if she's practicing 3A as she's mentioned that she wants one.

Her edges looked good to me as well - another Japanese lady with a true lutz :')

I don't think results for Jr Men's SP have been posted yet, so:
1. Kamata JPN 51.78
2. Yee MAS 50.64
3. Ri PRK 45.54
4. Honda JPN 43.79
5. Han PRK 42.75
from this twitter (she seems like she's actually watching the competition live so I would follow her for updates)

(no wonder Nitaya beat Higuchi with only a 3t3t, Higuchi had a 3f3t<. rethink layout for Higuchi?)

Nah, I think she should concentrate on improving 3F-3T. Her jumps are so powerful she should rotate it easily as long as she improves the landing of the Flip. Perhaps trying to improve the edge messed up her timing a bit? IIRC her lip was worse the last time I saw it, this time it took off almost off the flat and only got an "!".

hope marin wins this one! Is she having a bad day? shes supposed to be the best

She's just a novice girl, I don't think she's "supposed to" be anything. ;) I love her skating, but let's give her time to mature at her own pace :)

Actually, maybe she has a mild injury? I expected her to go for 3Lz-3T & 3F as usual (she's another lady with good edges on both of those jumps), but instead she went for 3L and 3T-3T in the 2nd half (the first time I saw her attempt it, she's usually shown practising 3Lz-3T, 3F-3T and 3L-3L). I'd say growth spurt issues, but she doesn't look any bigger than in her last competition this spring.
Lovely program, though :)
