Camille and Pavel finished 1st out of 3 in the FS, with a score of 118.04. This meant that they remained in 1st place overall, with a score of 178.31.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

And the stream freezes just after they start. So, I don't know what I missed. :drama:

It comes back as they are doing something side by side. And Camille has to pull out of her's early.

But everything else looked very good. They should have it in the bag.

Oooh, big crowd waiting for the results.

Yep, they win the FS by 23.38 points, and overall by 26.24 points.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Looking at the protocols, it was similar to the Short Programme in that all the GOE's were positive and all the Judges marks were positive or neutral... except for one element. This was the second element, a combination jump. The first part was a Triple Toe, but the second part ended up as a Single Toe. Fortunately, it was not that costly in the greater scheme of things. They got -0.42 in GOE, and -1 from all the Judges.

In all honesty, after worrying about Camille and Pavel only having a 2.86 point lead from the SP, it would have taken a disaster for them not to win. Because that is exactly what happened to the partnership that skated before them. Flavien GINIAUX fell on the second element, the Triple Toe, and then Oxana VOUILLAMOZ fell on the third element, the Throw Triple Salchow. And that totally took them out of contention for the win.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 23.38 points ahead of 2nd position, Oxana VOUILLAMOZ / Flavien GINIAUX (CAEN), and 34.98 points ahead of 3rd position, Aurelie FAULA / Theo BELLE (CAEN). Overall, they finished 26.24 points ahead of 2nd position, Vouillamoz / Giniaux, and 45.34 points ahead of 3rd position, Faula / Belle.

So, it was not a good day for the two "local" partnerships (local being in inverted commas because, although Caen and Rouen are both in Normandy, they are actually 80 miles apart). But, it was a great day for Camille and Pavel. With such a small lead coming into the Free Skate, there would have been a lot of pressure on both them and Vouillamoz / Giniaux. But, after many years of experience, the older partnership knew how to manage the pressure better than the younger partnership. And they fully took advantage of that.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Camille and Pavel finished 4th out of 3 in the SP, with a score of 62.46.

I haven't actually watched the Pairs SP segment yet (I plan to do that later today). But, I'll add my thoughts in after I do.

Camille and Pavel are currently 0.31 points behind 3rd position, Alisa EFIMOVA / Ruben BLOMMAERT (DEU), and 2.98 points ahead of 5th position, Rebecca GHILARDI / Filippo AMBROSINI (ITA).

With being so close to 3rd position, Camille and Pavel have a great opportunity to get onto the podium if things go their way in the Free Skate. But, they do have to be careful of Ghilardi / Ambrosini. Because they are in a good position to pick up the pieces if anything goes wrong for either of the partnerships directly ahead of them.

So here's hoping for a great Free Skate from Camille and Pavel.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Camille and Pavel finished 13th out of 23 in the SP, with a score of 61.07.

Looking at the protocols, I am puzzled by the scoring of the first element, the Triple Twist. I looked perfectly fine to me. But, it only got +0.08 in GOE; and Judges marks of -3 from Judge 4; -2 from Judge 6; -1 from Judge 1; 0 from Judge 8; and +1 from the remaining five Judges. Four time Australian Pairs Champion Belinda Noonan in commentary said it was that it was quite low, so maybe that is why they didn't like it. Nevertheless, due to the high Base Value, it was the second highest scoring element of the programme.

The next two elements were very good. The Triple Toe got Judges marks of 0 from Judge 4; two +1's and six +2's. It also got the third highest GOE of the programme, at +0.72, and was the third highest scoring element of the programme.

The Axel Lasso Lift was got Judges marks of three +1's; five +2's; and +3 from Judge 2. It got the highest GOE of the programme, at +1.20, and due to it having the highest Base Value of the programme, it was by far the highest scoring element of the programme, scoring 8.20 points.

Unfortunately, it was followed by the Throw Triple Flip, which was the costliest element of the programme. Camille didn't have a good landing at all, with Belinda saying it was a step-out. It got -1.67 in GOE, and Judges marks of two -4's; six -3's; and -2 from Judge 7.

There were no problems with the Backwards Inside Death Spiral. It only got +0.10 in GOE, and Judges marks of six 0's; two +1's; and +2 from Judge 7.

They came into their own during the Step Sequence or, as Belinda described it, "the fun part"! The Judges loved it with Judge 4 giving +1; five Judges giving it +2; Judge 2 giving it +3; and two Judges giving it +4. It also got the second highest GOE of the programme, at +0.80.

Unfortunately, they just could not keep synchronised during the Flying Change Foot Combination Spin, going out of sync at every stage of it. That said, they were not punished as much as I may have expected. They only got -0.05 in GOE; and the Judges marks were -3 from Judge 4; two -1's; four 0's; two and +1's.

They seemed happy enough afterwards when waiting for their scores. Well, Camille did anyway. Pavel looked like he was spaced out! But, Camille's expression changed as soon as the scores came up, You could see she was disappointed.

Camille and Pavel are currently 0.17 points behind 12th position, Daria DANILOVA / Michel TSIBA (NED), and 0.09 points ahead of 14th position, Karina SAFINA / Luka BERULAVA (GEO). All three are part of a very close group where 10 partnerships are covered by 4.42 points, stretching from Lia PEREIRA / Trennt MICHAUD (CAN) in 6th position, 4.24 points ahead of Camille and Pavel, to Annika HOCKE / Robert KUNKEL (DEU), 0.18 points behind Camille and Pavel.

When you have a group as large and as close as this going into the Free Skate, anything can happen. Camille and Pavel could potentially move considerably up the order if they have a good Free Skate. Or they could potentially drop a place or two if either or both of the two partnerships behind them do better then them.

So, let's hope Camille and Pavel have a great Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Pairs FS is due to start at 11:00:00 JST (02:00:00 GMT / 03:00:00 CET / 05:00:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 8th partnership to start. So, last partnership in Group 2 (and fourth partnership after the first resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:54:20 JST (02:54:20 GMT / 03:54:20 CET / 05:54:20 MSK). So 6h 54m from now.

Camille and Pavel are due to start at 12:25:50 JST (03:25:50 GMT / 04:25:50 CET / 06:25:50 MSK). So 7h 25m from now.

Unfortunately, I didn't get finished watching the Pairs FS until a week after it happened. I started writing a draft report about Camille and Pavel as soon as I finished watching it, and nearly got it completed (I only had one or two paragraphs left to write!) But then I left the draft sitting for too long and lost it. And I haven't had a chance yet to re-write the report.

But, I will write it again next week, and edit it in here, after the WTT is over.

Sorry for the delay

Camille and Pavel finished 5th out of 6 in the SP, with a score of 63.60.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Great skate from Camille and Pavel.

What does the purple box that they got for the Throw Triple Salchow mean?

Apart from that, everything was green!

They looked so happy when coming off the ice. Such a contrast to Worlds, when Pavel was suffering from jet lag. I am assuming they stayed in Japan between then and now.

Erm, they've got a Pikachu dancing behind them. Quick, catch it!

Into the lead, with their second highest ever SP score.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

They started out with a Triple Twist, and there didn't look anything wrong with it to me. It got neutral GOE. But, there was a great variety of opinions from the Judges. It got -2 from Judge 6; two -1's; three 0's; two +1's; and +2 from Judge 1. :drama:

Before I go any further, I should add at this point that Judge 1, Florence VUYLSTEKER (FRA), was consistently giving higher marks than the other Judges. But before you say "ah, the French are looking after their own", she was doing it for everybody.

The second element was the Triple Toe and, to be honest, I thought Camille's landing looked a bit wild compared to Pavel's. They certainly didn't look synchronised. But, the people that matter didn't seem to mind. They got +0.24 in GOE; and Judges marks of two -1's; two 0's; three +1's; and two +2's.

The Axel Lasso Lift looked very impressive to me. I would even go as far as to say it was faultless. By and large, the Judges liked it too, as it got -1 from Judge 2; 0 from Judge 4; three +1's; and four +2's. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was the highest scoring element of the programme, because it not only had by far the highest Base Value, but it also had the second highest GOE, at +0.90.

Camille very nearly didn't land the Throw Triple Salchow. She landed so low, and then stood up and stuck her leg out to try to disguise it. but, nobody fell for it. The Judges gave them four -1's; two 0's; and three +1's. And they also got their only negative GOE of the programme, at -0.06.

And that marked the end of the minuses. Apart from a solitary 0 from Judge 5 for the next element, everything else was positive.

To be continued...

Camille and Pavel are currently 6.24 points behind 4th position, Sara CONTI / Niccolo MACII (ITA), and 3.05 points ahead of 5th position, Hyejin CHO / Steven ADCOCK (KOR).

Being realistic, they are unlikely to get any higher. But, this is a good opportunity to go all out for a new Personal Best score.

So, let's hope Camille and Pavel have a great Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Pairs FS is due to start at 15:15:00 JST (06:15:00 GMT / 07:15:00 BST / 08:15:00 CEST / 09:15:00 MSK). So 2 hours from now.

No video uploaded yet 😞

Camille and Pavel finished 9th out of 10 in the SP, with a score of 47.87.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, I watched them on the archived livestream, and I can see why they finished in penultimate position. There were lots of mistakes. A couple of big ones, and some small ones.

Most of the chat in the competition thread was, strangely, about last year's costumes. As for this year's, they fitted the theme of the programme. They were skating to "The Feeling Begins" by Peter Gabriel, and music from the "Prince Of Persia" soundtrack. But, it wasn't the original recordings that we know and love, and have seen being skated to many times; it was re-mixes!

The opening Triple Twist looked good to me, although it ended up getting neutral GOE. The Judges had mixed feelings, with two -1's; three 0's; +1from Judge 4; and +2 from Judge 6.

But, the second element, the Triple Toe, was the first of the major issues. Camille had a dodgy landing, and it got downgraded as a result. Even though she didn't actually fall, it still got -5 from all the Judges. It got the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.65, but because it was the element with the lowest Base Value, it became the lowest scoring element of the programme.

The third element, the Group 3 Lift, looked perfect to me. And the Judges liked it too, with three ofg them giving +1; and the other four giving +2. It also got the highest GOE of the programme, at +0.82, which along with the high Base Value, made it the highest scoring element of the programme.

But then came the other major issue. Camille had an awful landing on the Throw Triple Flip. I don't know how she managed to avoid it becoming a fall, or avoid hurting herself! When I looked at the Protocols afterwards, I was amazed that the Judges gave the Triple Toe worse marks than this! This got two -4's; four -3's; and a -2 from Judge 6. That said, it did get the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.70.

There was nothing major after that. The Forward Inside Death Spiral looked good to me, but it did get a small minus GOE and a couple of -1's from the Judges.

I noticed that Camille had a bit of a stumble during the Step Sequence, but most of the Judges didn't seem to see it. Judge 4 gave it -1; Judge 7 gave it 0; two Judges gave it +1; and three Judges gave it +2. On top of this, it got the second highest GOE of the programme, at +0.31. So, they were fortunate, if you ask me!

They didn't get away with it in the final element, though. For a start, the Change Foot Combination Spin finished after the music, which earned them a deduction. Not only that, but during the bit after the music finished, Camille completely lost synchronisation with Pavel, and was very awkward getting into the finishing pose. The Judges gave them three -2's; two -1's; and two 0's.

They both looked very tired after they finished.

It took an awful long time for them to get their scores.

Camille and Pavel are currently 3.07 points behind 8th position, Sophia SCHALLER / Livio MAYR (AUT), and 10.47 points ahead of 10th position, Isabella GAMEZ / Aleksandr KOROVIN (PHL). Schaller / Mayr are at the bottom of a group of 4 partnerships covered by 1.82 points, stretching up to Caidence DERENISKY / Raine EBERL (CAN) in 5th position.

There is little danger of them dropping positions. But, there is a very good chance of them climbing if they put in a good Free Skate. Perhaps even to a Top 5 finish!

So, let's hope they do!

Camille and Pavel finished 8th out of 10 in the FS, with a score of 98.76. This meant that they climbed to 8th place overall, with a score of 146.63.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, I watched them on the archived livestream, and apart from three obvious mistakes, they were really good!

Camille looked like she had come straight from bed to the rink. She was wearing a very skimpy red négligée, with a dagger strapped to her left leg. Pavel was wearing a white shirt, black tousers and black tie, with a gun holster. And as soon as I saw them I thought "Aha! A Mr and Mrs Smith programme!"

Then James Bond music started!

As you have probably gathered by now, I cannot stand Billie Eilish. And all last season, I was looking forward to the end of the season when I would no longer have to listen to her when Camille and Pavel were skating. Well, they haven't got rid of her! Of all the Bond themes they could have chosen, they went with "Another Way To Die"! :drama: 😞

Although, to be fair, that is the one Billie Eilish song that I don't mind. And, as it turns out, I do like the programme. A LOT!

They opened with a Triple Twist, and I thought it looked very good! The Judges marks were two -1's; 0 from Judge 1; three +1's; and 2 from Judge 4. It also got +0.22 in GOE.

And the following element, the Double Salchow, was just as good in my eyes! The Judges actually liked it more than the first, giving it five +1's; and two +2's. Although, the GOE was lower, at +0.16.

The third element, the Double Toe, was the major issue of the programme. Camille fell, and Pavel didn't look completely in control either when he landed. Unsurprisingly, they got -5 from all the Judges, and -0.65 in GOE. And, because it already had by far the lowest Base Value at 0.91, they endd up only scoring 0.26 from it. But, I am confused by the Protocols, because it says it was a repeated element. But they didn't do any other Toe jumps, either before or afterwards. So, I don't understand why it was called as a repeated jump.

The next three elements (the Axel Lasso Lift; the Backward Outside Death Spiral; and the Pairs Combination Spin) all looked flawless to me, so I was glad to see that they had no minuses at all in the Protocols. The Axel Lasso Lift that was their fourth element had the highest Base Value and got the second highest GOE (+0.98) of the programme, so it was the highest scoring element. And the Pairs Combination Spin had the highest Judges marks of the programme, with three +1's; two +2's; and +3 from Judge 6. It also had the third highest GOE, at +0.72.

Then came the second, but thankfully smaller, issue on the Throw Triple Lutz. Camille came very close to having a double hands down on the landing. But, fortunately, she managed to avoid touching the ice. Personally, I think they were a bit too close to the boards, that that that is why it happened. Anyway, everything was negative. The Judges gave three -2's; and four -1's. And it got the niggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.74.

But, they bounced back with a Reverse lasso Lift which I thought was simply magnifique! Although they weren't quite as impressed as I was, the Judges still liked it. Judge 4 gave it 0; two Judges gave it +1; and four Judges gave it +2. It also got the highest GOE of the programme at +0.99. And because it had the second highest Base Value, it became the second highest scoring element of the programme.

The Choreographic Sequence looked good, and so did the closing element, the Group 3 Lift. There were no minuses for either of them.

However, in between, they did a Throw Triple Salchow. And this time Camille did have a hand down on landing. It got from the Judges three -2's; three -1's; and 0 from Judge 6. It also got the third biggest GOE hit at -0.62.

They got two points in deductions. One was for the fall on the Double Toe. The other was a time violation. But I have no idea what it was for.

They both looked tired when they finished. After the highlights were shown, Pavel still looked exhausted, while Camille looked very happy and was chatting away cheerfully to the coaches. And then she noticed how Pavel was, gave him a hug, and then appeared to start making fun of him to the coaches. That really showed that they are just a typical married couple!

Then the scores came through. And Camille was very annoyed, verging on angry. She clearly thought they deserved more than they got.

And I agree with her.

Camille and Pavel finished the FS 0.65 points behind 7th position, Sophia SCHALLER / Livio MAYR (AUT), and 3.50 points ahead of 9th position, Caidence DERENISKY / Raine EBERL (CAN). Camille and Pavel are the bottom partnership in a group of three partnerships covered by 2.39 points that stretches up to 6th position, Isabelle MARTINS / Ryan BEDARD (USA).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 1.39 points behind 8th position, Derenisky / Eberl, and 23.98 points ahead of 10th position, Isabella GAMEZ / Aleksandr KOROVIN (PHL). Camille and Pavel are the bottom partnership in a group of four partnerships covered by 6.01 points that stretches up to 6th position, Martins / Bedard.

This was one of those occasions when the the old saying "You can't win the competition in the Short Programme, but you can certainly lose it" rung true. They just made too many mistakes in the Short, and even a mostly very good Free Skate couldn't rescue them.

When this programme is done clean, it is going to be a real weapon for them. ( I didn't even realise that was a pun until after posting it! :palmf: :slink: )

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:
