Camille and Pavel will be back in action today at the Challenge Cup in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

The Senior Pairs SP is due to start at 17:10:00 CET (16:10:00 GMT / 19:10:00 MSK). So 9 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 5th partnership to start. So, first partnership in Group 2.

And that is as much as I can tell you, because the Time Schedule PDF's don't work.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Challenge Cup.

Camille and Pavel are currently 0.34 points behind 4th position, Sophia SCHALLER / Livio MAYR (AUT), and 0.97 points ahead of 6th position, Yuna NAGAOKA / Sumitada MORIGUCHI (JPN). They are the middle partnership in a group where 5 partnerships are covered by 4.45 points, stretching from Isabelle MARTINS / Ryan BEDARD (USA) in 3rd position, 1.61 points ahead of Camille and Pavel, down to Barbora KUCIANOVÁ / Martin BIDAŘ (CZE) in 7th position, 2.84 points behind Camille and Pavel.

Honestly, when you have a group this big and close, anything can happen. With a good Free Skate, they can potentially go back home with a set of Bronze Medals. But if things don't go their way, they could potentially drop to penultimate position.

So, let's hope that they have a good Free Skate and climb up the order!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is is due to start at 14:40:00 CET (13:40:00 GMT). So 7 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 4th partnership to start. So, fourth and final partnership to go in Group 1.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 0.49 points behind 2nd position, Lucrezia BECCARI / Matteo GUARISE (ITA), and 6.24 points ahead of 4th position, Yuna NAGAOKA / Sumitada MORIGUCHI (JPN).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 9.76 points behind 2nd position, Beccari / Guarise, and 4.65 points ahead of 4th position, Isabelle MARTINS / Ryan BEDARD (USA).

It's a pity that they got a point deducted for a Time Violation again today, because everything went so well. But, whilst they would have got one position higher in each segment without the deductions, it wouldn't have made any difference to their overall position. The other issues in the Short Programme had put them at too much of a disadvantage.

But now, they can look forward and concentrate on getting ready for Senior Worlds. And making sure they get everything within time!

Kovalevs score 52.72. Anyone see their performance live?
It looks like they are still recuperating their elements so I wish them all the best in their free skate tomorrow.

Camille and Pavel are currently 9.24 points behind 2nd position, Anastasia VAIPAN-LAW / Luke DIGBY (GBR), and 0.03 points ahead of 4th position, Daria DANILOVA / Michel TSIBA (NED).

Being realistic, 3rd position is the best that Camille and Pavel can hope for. The two partnerships ahread pof them are just too far ahead. However, they have to put in a good Free Skate, because Danilova / Tsiba are breathing down their necks. And although there is a 4.46 point gap behind the Dutch partnership to Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA), if Camille and Pavel have a disappointing skate, they could drop behind them too.

So, let's hope that they have a good Free Skate and maintain their 3rd position.

OK, so they had a few issues across the the two programmes. But the real problem were the programmes themselves. The total Base Values were simply too low. And unless they increase the difficulty of their programmes, and particularly the Free Skate, they are going to struggle to get selected for the Majors.

Camille and Pavel finished 7th out of 8 in the SP, with a score of 54.81.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the skating LIVE, because I was watching the coverage of the Qualifying for the Formula 1 Sprint Race. However, I did watch the Warm-Up and their programme the next morning.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Big cheers for Camille and Pavel when they were introduced. They were wearing their team jackets, but Pavel was wearing dark grey trousers, while you could see a greyish-white shiney dress poking out from under Camille's jacket.

Oh, boys. If that was Pavel's waist that we saw cross the shot very close to the camera when they showed Ekaterina Geynish for the first time during the warm-up, his top is a lot wilder than his bottoms. Pea green.

It was! We saw both him and Camille in the next shot! And her top is pea green too!

We got to see the costumes in their full glory when the camera focussed on them. The part of Camille's dress covering her shoulders and bust is pea-green, while below her bust is greyish-white. Pavel's T-shirt is nearly all pea-green, apart from the area over his right shoulder, which is grey-ish white. As I said, his trousers are dark grey.

It is a sight to behold!

Nice throw.

Side-by-side jumps not really in sync, but they did have to delay doing them because Geynish crossed their paths when they were lining them up.

Ah, Mark telling us about Pavel's ankle surgery. That probably explains why they turned up in Dundee with programmes that had such low total Base Values. They didn't want Pavel to exert himself too much for what was essentially just an early season run-out.

And he also says that they are now training at this very rink.

Towards the end of the Warm-Up, they showed Camille adjusting her laces on her right boot. I hope they don't cause bother!

Well, hopefully Pavel is a lot further on in his recovery than he was a couple of weeks ago, and is able to do more now.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about their programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Big cheers and shots of the audience with French flags just before Camille and Pavel were introduced.

That sounds ominous. Mark said it is similar in style to their old Billie Eilish programme.

Ach, it's that slowed down version of "Toxic" where all the life is sapped out of the song.

Good Triple Twist Lift to start with.

Thank goodness. The real Britney has arrived!

Triple Toe out of sync, and hand down for Camille.

Premature landing for Camille on the Throw Triple Lutz. She was facing the wrong direction.

Beautiful lift! And so was the bBackwards Outside Death Spiral.

Another change of music for the Step Sequence. And we've gone weird. Well, it's allowing them to have a bit of fun.

And back to the slowed down "Toxic" for the Change Foot Combination Spin at the end. Well, at least the element was good, even if the music wasn't.

Well, that was actually better than I expected, given everything that happened before this.

This programme is so them!

Slowed-down "Toxic" aside, I actually enjoyed that programme.

They are happy! Camille is full of beans. Pavel is visably exhausted, but what do you expect?!

They go into 3rd position.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Inevitably, there were a LOT of comments about their costumes during the Warm-Up. I won't quote them all, but I especially liked this one from our resident video archive list compiler:

It's not easy being green....Kermit the Frog

@CellarDweller clearly had the same thought, posting:

And then, in reply to @labgoat, added:

I swear, I posted my gif before I saw this post! LOL

Good fun!

When it came to their turn, @labgoat posted something that made the penny drop for us all:

That green is the color of a toxic waste spill, toxic also happens to be the name of the music.

My good friend @elektra blue replied:

coincidence? i don't think so

And to prove the point, @labgoat then added this:

Finally, @EdgeCall posted this in reply to @elektra blue:

Maybe they try to magically force the TES box. Didn't work.

Which brings us to the skating. Our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19 commented:

Kovalevs. I will love their costumes, if they glow in the dark. Good program. A few mistakes, but finished strong. :dance3:

The bit about the costumes got two replies. Firstly @labgoat said:

yes please

And then @auser said:

They are certainly memorable and eye catching. ;)

Back to the actual skating, and @EdgeCall said:

Nicely atmospheric, but the mistakes will hurt them. 😐

Italian member @bartlebooth's comment was similar:

Messy but no disaster, I'll take that.

While Dutch member @ladyjane wrote the perfect summary:

Camille and Pavel always have such intriguing programmes. They seem to be back on track (despite all the surgery issues and the choreography ones).

I was wondering what the choreography issues were, but then American member @moonvine said something that explained everything:

I feel so bad the French couldn't afford a choreographer. That's rough.

Wow. I didn't realise that. That makes the programme all the more impressive!

Camille and Pavel are currently 5.93 points behind 6th position, Rebecca GHILARDI / Filippo AMBROSINI (ITA), and 13.31 points ahead of 8th position, Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA).

Being realistic, unless something really dramatic happens in the Free Skate, they are going to finish in 7th. But, having big gaps on either side of them is a good thing, as it allows them to do things at their own pace and not worry about anybody else. That is the perfect situation to be in for somebody who is recovering from surgery.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Camille and Pavel finished 6th out of 8 in the FS, with a score of 102.23. This meant that they remained in 7th position overall, with a score of 157.04.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the skating LIVE, because I was watching the coverage of what was supposed to be the Qualifying for the Formula 1 Feature Race (it was a washout, and was re-scheduled for Sunday morning). However, I did watch the Warm-Up and their programme after the weekend.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Big cheers for the first two partnerships, who just happen to be French.

Camille has a red dress poking out from under her team jacket. Pavel has black trousers. So, I think their FS costumes will be a bit more conservative than their SP costumes (famous last words! )

Saw Camille taking off her jacket when Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA) were being focussed on. Boys but that is a gorgeous dress she is wearing! It is completely red, and has one strap that goes over the left shoulder, and then crosses over and joins onto the back of the dress at the right shoulder blade.

When they started focussing on Camille and Pavel, we saw that as well as the black trousers, he is wearing a white shirt and a black holster. And it was then that I remembered that this is a re-worked version of their FS from last season. Mark says it is the same programme, but according to their ISU Bio there have been some subtle changes made to the music.

Unfortunately, we didn't actually get to see them doing any elements during the Warm-Up.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about their programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Massive cheers in the transition from Aurélie and Théo getting their scores to Camille and Pavel starting.

Didn't notice during the Warm-Up the un-tied dickie bow that Pavel was wearing. So, apologies.

Like in the SP, a lovely Triple Twist Lift to start with.

Out of sync starting the Double Salchows, but they were in sync by teh time they landed.

Wow! Although it was a bit rough around the edges, they made it through the sequence of jumps without any bother.

Lovely Axel Lasso Lift.

Backward Inside Death Spiral also lovely. And so was the Combination Spin.

Throw Triple Flip was beautiful!!!

Ach. Camille fell trying to get up from spinning on their knees during part of the Choreographic Sequence. Pavel stayed on his knees waiting for her.

Audience gicing them lots of encouragement.

When they did the Reverse Lasso Lift, you wouldn't have thought they had just had a strange mistake. It was great!

Camille just about landed the Throw Triple Salchow.

Audience are going mad during the final lift. And deservedly so.

You know, even with the fall and the landing on the Throw Triple Salchow, I think this was the best I have seen them skate in a long time! They were on fire! It just shows the benefits of keeping a programme.

The arena is erupting!!! And Camille and Pavel are revelling in it!!!

They are still so happy when they get to the results area. Camille shows us what is written on the backside of the Woody Woodpecker cuddly toy she has been given, but I don't understand the signifigance of the letters.

The audience are chanting "Kovalevs! Kovalevs!"

Camille thanking a lot of people.

They go into the lead.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Oh, and in case you are wondering, the total Base Value for the programme was a LOT higher than it was at the Tayside Trophy a couple of weeks ago.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 4.06 points behind 5th position, Lia PEREIRA / Trennt MICHAUD (CAN), and 1.62 points ahead of 7th position, Ekaterina GEYNISH / Dmitrii CHIGIREV (UZB).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 4.95 points behind 6th position, Geynish / Chigirev, and 28.32 points ahead of 8th position, Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA).

I am just so delighted for them. To put in that kind of a performance after everything Pavel has been through in the past few months. It is amazing.

Camille and Pavel finished 6th out of 8 in the SP, with a score of 54.01.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up (OK, so I re-wrote it afterwards, because I got distracted):

As they are the first to skate, Camille and Pavel were the first partnership to be focussed on. Except they weren't actually together - they went off separately after the introductions.

First they showed Camille starting a lap of the rink. Then they switched to Pavel doing stretches on his own. Then the camera switched back to Camille, who was doing mini jumps. Then back to Pavel, who was running backwards.

Then we switch back to Camille, who was taking off her jacket to reveal the green part of her dress. After she hands her jacket over to their coach, cleans her nose, and then starts heading off again. Then Pavel arrives, quickly takes off his jacket and hands it over, and goes after her. When he catches up with her, he puts his arm around her to let her know that he is there, and then they head off together.

While other partnerships are focussed on, we them passing through shots a few times. Then we see them doing a very nice throw in the front of shot while the camera is following Minerva Fabienne HASE / Nikita VOLODIN (DEU).

When Sara CONTI / Niccolò MACII (ITA) are being focussed on, we see Camille and Pavel practicing jumps individually with nearly the width of the rink between them, and Sara and Niccolò go through the gap.

After that, they show Camille doing things in her own, and then Pavel just skating alongside the boards. He then takes a short cut, going past his wife.

A while later, we see Camille adjusting the shoulder strap of her dress. Again, she is on her own.

It seems that they did most of the Warm-Up separately.

Let's hope they can bring it all together for their programme.

Here they come now.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

Oh, I forgot it was this version of "Toxic"

Beautiful Triple Twist to start.

Hand down from Camille on Triple Toe.

And then she fell on Throw Triple Flip.

The lift was beautiful.

Step Squence very good.

Out of sync on Combination Spin that finished off the programme.

Not a fan of having a camera on the ice when they are coming off. It feels like we are intruding on their personal space. And particularly in this case, given that they are married.

They both look very disappointed waiting for their scores.

They go into 3rd position.

Not the best I've seen them. But not the worst either. So...

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Our resident video archive list compiler. @labgoat, wrote the following during the Warm-Up:

I forget about the slime costumes, also does she have silver sparkly ribs under the green?

@EdgeCall added:

Wow, looks like we need to keep our 🕶️ ready.

My good friend @elektra blue, who runs the fashion awards on here, said this about their costumes:

oh Kovalevs it's so nice to know i can always count on you

At the start of the programme, @lileychristie in Australia exclaimed:

Oooh, neon highlighters!!

What is this cover though 😅😂

During the programme, @labgoat commented:

That is a great lift for Cami & Pavel

After they finished, @GGFan commented:

There are times that I just love skating for the spectacle and campiness and that costume and program by the French are the perfect example.

And our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19, repeated her wish from their previous GP appearance:

Camille/Pavel. I like their costumes, but I would love them in they glow in the dark. Good program, but a rough skate.

To which @labgoat replied:

I would like to see this

Like @Jeanie19 at the end of her comment, @elektra blue picked up on how the skate went by saying:

this skate was toxic :(

To which Polish member @Ares replied:

But there was Britney Bitch! We need more Britney Spears in figure skating if you ask me. Kovalev duo you earned a fan in me!

tenor.gif

tenor.gif

And I used replying to @Ares as an opportunity to express my opinion about the music:

Yes, but it is real Britney we need. Not remixed weird Britney.

CaroLiza_fan

Camille and Pavel are currently 1.13 points behind 5th position, WANG Yuchen / ZHU Lei (CHN), and 3.36 points ahead of 7th position, Isabella GAMEZ / Aleksandr KOROVIN (PHL).

With the way the gaps are, they are going to finish in either 5th or 6th position. So, lets hope that they have a good Free Skate, so as to increase the likelihood of it being 5th position.

Aha! They are still continuing to use the James Bond programme.

Lovely throw. Mark even said that they will hope to be able to paste that into their programme!

They then showed a close-up of Camille, and she didn't look very happy. And then a close-up of Pavel, and he was a bit better. Not much, though.

Oh, I hope things go well for them in their programme.

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

Sorry I haven't been commenting, but I have been eating while watching the first two partnerships.

But, I've finished now. Just in time for my kids.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST CAMILLE AND PAVEL!!! :cheer:

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

I always love that starting pose.

Lovely to Triple Twist start with.

Camille was a bit close to the boards for the Triple Salchow, and just about had enough room to do it.

She then fell on the Triple Toe.

Next couple of elements were good, though,

Mark says he loves the entry into the spin. I agree. And the spin went well for them.

Double hands down from Camille on landing the Throw Triple Flip.

But no problems after that! Throw Triple Salchow in particular was beautiful.

Well, they both look a LOT happier when they met their coach at the boards than they did that time during the Warm-Up.

Pavel sending a long message in Russian when waiting for their scores.

They go into 2nd in both the FS and overall.

:cheer: WELL DONE CAMILLE AND PAVEL!! :cheer:

The only other comment about them came from my good friend, @elektra blue, who wrote:

bang, better than in France

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 12.83 points behind 5th position, Ioulia CHTCHETININA / Michal WOZNIAK (POL), and 2.49 points ahead of 7th position, Isabella GAMEZ / Aleksandr KOROVIN (PHL).

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 2.81 points behind 5th position, Katie McBEATH / Daniil PARKMAN (USA), and 5.85 points ahead of 7th position, Gamez / Korovin.

Camille and Pavel were always going to finish in 6th position in the Free Skate. The total Base Value for their programme was a lot lower than all the partnerships ahead of them, and a lot higher than all the partnerships below them. But, having a fall in each programme did cost them the chance of finishing in 5th position overall.

Well, they are down for one more international assignment, the Golden Spin Of Zagreb, before Nationals. So, hopefully everything will go smoothly there, and set them up for the battle in Annecy with the other French partnerships.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Golden Spin Of Zagreb Senior Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Camille and Pavel finished 5th out of 12 in the SP, with a score of 54.52.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Golden Spin Of Zagreb, as I was concentrating on the practice sessions from the final Formula 1 round of the season, and the Grand Prix Final.

Camille and Pavel are currently 2.09 points behind 4th position, Sophia SCHALLER / Livio MAYR (AUT), and 0.77 points ahead of 6th position, Letizia ROSCHER / Luis SCHUSTER (DEU). Camille and Pavel are at the head of a group of 7 partnerships covered by 5.12 points, stretching down to Brooke McINTOSH / Marco ZANDRON (ESP) in 11th position.

Camille and Pavel have to be careful. If they have a good Free Skate, there is the possibility of getting onto the final step of the podium. After all ,the current occupants, Audrey SHIN / Balazs NAGY (USA), are only 3.70 points ahead of them. However, there is a whole string of partnerships right on their heel. So, if they make any mistakes, they could tumble down the order.

So they do need to have a good Free Skate.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is due to start at 10:30:28 CET (09:30:28 GMT / 12:30:28 MSK). So 3 hours from now.

Camille and Pavel will be the 8th partnership to start. So, fourth and final partnership in Group 2 (and final partnership before the resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:08:18 CET (10:08:18 GMT / 13:08:18 MSK). So 3h 38m from now.

Camille and Pavel are due to start at 11:38:18 CET (10:38:18 GMT / 13:38:18 MSK). So 4h 8m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Camille and Pavel finished 5th out of 8 in the FS, with a score of 103.93. This meant that they remained in 5th position overall, with a score of 158.45.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Golden Spin Of Zagreb, as I was concentrating on Free Practice 3 and Qualifying from the final Formula 1 round of the season.

Looking at the Protocols, there were only 2 issues. One of them must only have been a minor issue on the Sequence of jumps that they did. But the other was a whopper. They both fell on the Backward Inside Death Spiral, which resulted in not only 2 points in deductions, but also the element being invalidated.

Camille and Pavel finished the Free Skate 5.01 points behind 4th position, Letizia ROSCHER / Luis SCHUSTER (DEU), and 1.25 points ahead of 6th position, Sophia SCHALLER / Livio MAYR (PHL). Camille and Pavel are at the head of a group of 4 partnerships covered by 2.35 points, stretching down to Greta CRAFOORD / John CRAFOORD (SWE) in 8th position.

Overall, Camille and Pavel were 0.84 points behind 4th position, Schaller / Mayr, and 3.76 points ahead of 6th position, Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA).

Well, despite three points in deductions (as well as the aforementioned 2 points deducted for falling on the Backward Inside Death Spiral, they also got a 1 point deduction for a time violation), and having an element invalidated, they still managed to achieve their highest FS score of the season, and their highest overall score of the season. And significantly, they were also ahead of Faula / Belle in both segments, and overall.

All of which is a good sign heading into Nationals in 2 weeks time.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:
