What about the pairs? How did they skate (if anyone knows)?

I like Cain/LeDuc but there are only two olympic spots for pairs?

There is only one Olympic spot for pairs. ETA: There are two spots for Worlds. Presumably the Knierims are the front runners, but who knows? The season has yet to start.

No one can report on what actually happened. What I did find interesting from Jason's vlog, however, was that there was applause at the end of his program. I don't know if it was a practice or an actual monitoring session.

I would watch the vlog if you want a sense of what happens in general, it's very good for that. As for how the pairs are looking, well, Deanna and Nate have competed three times this summer, I don't remember the Knierims, I think they are taking it easier given Alexa's heath issues, and I don't follow Ashley and Tim (sorry!) so I don't know. That info is public, Champs Camp monitoring is not.

IceRabbit.....my comments about Jeremy do not detract from his National or GPF accomplishments. However, when it came to Worlds and the Olympics (other than the team bronze) I believe the highest he ever placed was 5th and generally wasn't in the top 10. The sad thing about that is he had the talent and ability to win....and usually choked. I have always liked Jeremy and especially now that he's skating in SOI. I especially like his part of Sounds of Silence. He has really excelled in this format.

As far as knowing what a skater feels or thinks - I would suggest that at least 99.9% of the posters on this board are only speculating and since it's only speculation it's fair that they/we be able to express our opinions. I just wish sometimes it wasn't so brutal with a few of our skaters. I think there isn't one of us who can't respect the pressure a skater is under in the elite ranks.

I am very interested in our pairs teams this year. Do we know if the Knierims are able to train full-out? Hasn't it been almost a year since the surgery? And I haven't seen any mention of Haven Denney and her partner. I believe she had a serious injury as well. At least the Kierims are married. They may quit skating but hopefully they don't split their on-ice partnership. I think the US would profit greatly by some of these teams staying together for the duration.

Jason Brown's vlog from Champs Camp:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpC1KOh8ums

You'll see glimpses of more than one skater here (even a little of my fav duo, Grant and "JB" ), although only Jason skating. .....

Jason Brown is so freakin' cute! His joy and enthusiasm for skating is really nice to see. I hope he gets his quads because he really does have everything else to get himself another championship.

Olympic success isn't the be all end all of figure skating. :rolleye:

Also, yes anyone can have an opinion, that doesn't mean you know what it's like by any means. :slink:

:agree: 100%. I think most of us feel that we aren't being brutal, but remarks are easily misunderstood when a skater is one's favorite. When it isn't my fave being criticized, I can take it more with a grain of salt, see it objectively. Most posters here seem to be like me in that respect.

It often seems it's the Uber Fans of a particular skater or team who feel that others' remarks are unfair or harsh. With me, it's the negatives about Ashley and Adam. They're by no means my onlies; some of my other faves just don't seem to attract the criticism. Others notice more negative comments about Mirai and Gracie. Some of the Canadians feel Patrick and Kaetlyn are the only ones receiving such treatment. I guess it's like your loved ones: I may have issues with my "spousal unit", (with a nod to el henry) but if I feel he's being attacked, watch out. I try to remember -- though I may not always succeed -- that it's those who are really succeeding, and who are perceived as a threat, who receive such criticism.

:agree: Our pairs are simply riveting this year, more so than in the past. A big factor is the addition of C/L and S/B.

Haven still hadn't gained her jumps back 100% last year, after blowing out her knee the previous year and being off-ice for 8 months. I hope (and expect!) that they've recovered fully. Otherwise, all I know is one of their music selections: Queen, and that they were at Champs Camp. From what they've said, it sounds like Alexa/Chris are finally back to full strength. Like Nathan and Adam said after injuries, maybe they feel stronger than before. I think their on-ice connection improved a lot last year and I'm looking forward to seeing that evolve.

Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc have been quiet (maybe really doubling down on their training), and also were at CC. They also were in Russia for 3 weeks working with Nina Mozer, I heard, but I don't know details.

In the "Who Will Be the Pairs Breakout Stars in 2017-18" IN story, 3 of the journalists picked Cain/LeDuc, in the USA category. Pretty dang impressive. They were singled out for some of the same reasons that have been appreciated here, by us admittedly non-skater Uber Fans. :) :) :) The other top 4 (SK/K, D/F, K/O, and S/B) got one vote each.

I believe they have been in Italy for a summer camp attended also by Mozer's pairs. In late July/early August there were various pics of Cain/LeDuc, Morozov/Tarasova, Stolbova/Klimov, Alexandrovskaya/Windsor, Zabijako/Enbert and Della Monica/Guarise together in Italy.

Yes, they were in Italy with Mozer and her teams.

Unpopular opinion: There is no need for Champs Camp to be televised or streamed etc, it's not necessary for the fans to see everything.

Well of course it's not necessary, but I'm a nosy so and so and would love to see it anyway.

Just being honest.

:laugh2:

Just listened to the IceTalk podcast.

I'm excited about Karen and Ashley and the way that Lynn said they look. I'd love to see both of them and Mirai Nagasu skate to their potential this year. I'm sorry to hear that Gracie's still having a hard time- hopefully she'll get out of this funk soon or decide that she doesn't want to skate any more and move on with her life.

Does anyone know what's up with Joshua Farris? Apart from seeing Nathan Chen, I was most excited to see Farris skating in his comeback year. I'm hoping he's not injured already! I'm also really looking forward to seeing Adam Rippon and Jason Brown fully healthy and with new, beautifully choreographed programs.

Re: dance, some of these program ideas sound a bit sketchy. IDK about another Coldplay for the Shibs or that strange-sounding voiceover of "Imagine" for Chock/Bates. I think C/B should have learned their lesson after last season's Under Pressure mess [which could have been wonderful had they used Queen/ David Bowie's actual version].

:thank: for the clarification You've just told me more than I'd heard or read anywhere, I only knew that they were with Mozer. A summer camp, that makes sense.

I think there are just too many times in the past where Ashley has "blown it" at Worlds. Her SPs in 2012 and 2015 kept her from the podium. Plus, UR problems.

That said, considering the longevity of her career, she is, overall, very consistent (just not on full jump rotations). But I'm not sure if I would call her a rock - I always feel a twinge of nerves when she skates. The 3F-3T in her SP makes me hold my breath every time.

OTOH, Nathan, Michelle, D/W, Shibs - never felt scared for them (except for Michelle at Olympics).

Nathan is young - but he's still a rock. Nerves of steel, especially considering his technical content.

I don't feel nervous when she does her 3F-3T, but then I'm focusing on my enjoyment of her skating and its beauty, her musical expression and her emotional expression. But I don't discount what you're saying. Everyone experiences skaters in slightly different ways.

I just wanted to agree and emphasize what Moxiejam said (maybe I OVER-emphasized ).

Ashley is a rock when you look at the US Ladies over the past several years. She's really held the US up. She's had partners in that endeavour: Mirai, Gracie, and now Karen .... pretty much all at different times, though, which puts her accomplishments in a different light; and pardon me if I missed anyone. She's still working to improve, mentally and physically .... as she says, she's a work in progress.

Hey, I'm an Uber. I like to see Ashley get the appreciation and recognition that she's earned.

Oh my GOD please let that be a mistake!!! After that documentary thing she released last month?? No I don't believe it she seemed so excited and passionate about la la land!

Ashley's entitled to choose music and a program that will best showcase her skating skills and interpretation talents. Like every skater. I'll be sorry not to see what she would do with La La Land. But what if she's doing this so that she can concentrate on skating clean. That would be a good reason, IMO.

While it'll be somewhat :scratch2: to see Wagner resurrect MR again, I could understand such a move at this stage. Probably will reduce her stress levels and free her up to concentrate on other important aspects of her skating.

That said, best to wait for confirmation rather than hearsay/gossip.

Wow, that would be her third season to use that program, if she sticks with it.

Ashley had a "Wow" moment at Worlds with MR. I think it will be hard to have another "Wow" moment with MR after three years of performing it. It was wonderful at the time but it might be met with a ho hum at this point. I much prefer skaters to have an ambitious and artistic plan to grow with their programs each year. That's what makes each new season exciting!
