as far as i m concerned, this season, and last, i havent seen anything close to chan's teb 2013 or sc 2015... sorry ... my opinion

Your opinion is backed by the record books.
His teb 2013 scores of 196.75(lp) and 295.27(total) still stands as the highest ever.

It's not me who made the statement that other skaters should branch out stylistically. It was Chan.
But we can agree to disagree.
I found Chan's statements in the interview to be unnecessary and rude, you think he was being truthful and therefore justified.

It all depends on how one views such things.

Chan is a wonderful skater. Watching his skating is amazing. I'll probably never agree with some of the things he says about his competition. But If I met him in person I'd tell him that he is a wonderful skater, (truth) and that I admire his speed and skill (truth) but I wouldn't say that I find some of his statements to be very rude (though this is also the truth).

Chan is a wonderful skater. Watching his skating is amazing. I'll probably never agree with some of the things he says about his competition. Unfortunately, I don't have your knowledge about music but even I know that take five is very different.
I remember Christopher Dean saying (t/d skated to it in a pro competition) that take five has five beats and that extra beat really makes it challenging.
If I'm wrong, blame it on Dean!!!

(This is what I love about skating forums, learning new things!)

I don't want for there to be unpleasantness on the thread. But a good vigorous discussion is fun.
Well, for Javi we will soon see.
I like his style of skating enough that I don't mind a slight 'sameness' about his skating. It is what he does best. But if he's going to go in a new direction, kudos to him!

It's not a question of whether Chan is right or wrong about his competition. Even if he's spot on in his criticism, it's totally inappropriate for him to make such remarks to the press about athletes he's still competing against. You just don't do that. And it makes him look rude, arrogant and even jealous of his fellow competitors.

So why does he persist in doing these things? Lack of self-control? Such a low level of emotional intelligence that he's genuinely clueless as to how he comes across to the public?

1) there are as some of us have explained context for these comments
2) he wasn't competing then and hadn't made an official decision about returning as far as I know

i'd suggest you go visit his fan fest page, and read articles about him, watch his videos... etc this framing of chan as a jerk by some people and medias has been blown out of proportion... it is not really showing the true chan.... but it makes a damn good stories and topic for forum hate mongers

Hanyu is Visace, Dolce Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, Cavalli, Sandy Powell. Patrick is Prada, Fendi, Armani, Ferragamo.
(Mind you... i think I am being too kind with their fashion tastes. They are more like 'where ever Liberace shops' vs Gap!)

Um...no. Hanyu is not Versace, D&G or Cavalli. Those brands are tacky bordering on vulgar. Hanyu's skating is not vulgar or tacky.

I am thinking that Guys & Dolls may go over a LOT better than anticipated. Yes, it's the same for Javier, but it's nothing like most of the FS this season. There was so MUCH soft classical & piano music this year at Skate Canada. Listen to the applause for Kim's Singing in the Rain program. All kinds of mistakes, but we really wanted to stand up for him because it was such a joy to watch the performance.

I saw it, I liked it. It's similar, but BETTER than last year's LP. IMO

Unfortunately, Lulu was not able to get into fighting shape that season in time to earn a spot for China in the 1998 Olympics, and she had to qualify the next year via the back door (and won her second bronze). She never actually able to give a good performance of this routine, and when she revived it for the pro circuit it lacked technical content but was very cool, very sexy.
